Incredibly versatile. I use the Boss Katana 50 for all live shows. During the course of the evening I will have used acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric 12 string, lap steel and mandolin. No other amp could get the tones right for each of those instruments like the Katana. Plus it's super light, the effects are great, it's just an excellent amp all the way around.
All guitar or amp demos should be done like this. I completely see how easy it is to use, the sounds you can get and the info on the actual product. Well done and makes my decision very easy. Thanks!!
Have a Katana 50w, it meets- and exceeds- the hype. The youtube demos don't do it justice. The demos sound great, in person it sounds amazing. With all the effects combined with the sneaky amps download, this amp can do basically anything. Nothing but good things to say about my 50w, it's incredible
Just wanted to say, this is the best video i've seen doing this amp justice. youtube videos usually sound like crap, somehow you have accurately demoed the sound of this amp. current US retail price is $230 it blows me away. My other amps are Fender Hot Rod Deville 4X10 and the 5150 III 15 watt head and 2X12 cab (Version with 2 drive channels, no clean channel) This thing is insane value for money and being that i'm in an apartment currently, i'm able to get decent tone without blasting out my neighbors.
Extremely well done demo! If I could give you a thousand thumbs up I would. The video and audio quality was superb and so was the editing and production. I liked that you played several different instruments, quite well I might ad. You moved along at a comfortable pace and there was no endless verbal gabbing from some self proclaimed, cooler than anyone guitar hero. I liked the still photos and especially the 'cameo' guest appearance by the black cat! BTW, you sold me... I ordered a new Katana-100 MkII.
This is one of the best demo's I have seen for this amp. Thank you. I have the Katana 100 with the foot pedal, only because the pedal makes it so versatile as for changing channels and turning effects on and off. Over the years I have owned pretty much anything, amp-wise you can care to name, (within reason) and IMHO for the price, the quality of these amps are unequalled by any of the competition. Well done Boss, and thanks for a great video Toby.
Just bought the 50 had chance to get the 100 used for the same price but still prefer the 50. the 50 sounds better simple as that the eq and mid range sound more like fender.. the 100 has a muddy low that is hard to dail out.. I A/B both for an hour in front of other.. we all heard it.. NOW yes the 100 is more versatile when spend another 100 buck on the switch. but I dont need that I already have a nice TUBE amp with analog effects I use on Gigs that need that power and tone..but for little bar gigs & Jams and a great practice & studio amp light easy I always cut though. I guess its all preference and boss did a good job I much prefer the 50.. seriosouly though if you have the time A/b the clean channels on both the 50 almost sounds like blues cube. .
@@sixfoursoul2538 Since I posted my remarks I have gone the whole hog and bought the Katana Artist, which is a whole other kettle of fish again. I REALLY like these amp's and to be fair I would be just as happy with a K50 if I was short on option's. As stated before, I don't think you can beat them for the money.
My eBay-win mark one arrived today and even after a quick plug-in to make sure it works, I'm massively impressed with it, loads of tones and interesting stuff. Just with I'd had this when I was a teenager, rather than the wasp in a jar that I had. It would have made a world of difference to my discipline.
I'm a proud tube Orange amp owner and never thought i would look to a modeling amp for options. Been really digging tones from a Marshall and this really nails it. This would make a great practice and recording amp.
I don't think so. It's versatile, sort of a convenient jack of all trades - master of none. In the studio, when convenience isn't as important as tone... this amp isn't the ticket.
I myself don’t have a Katana model, but I’ve got the ME-80 which I suspect contains the same technology. Plugging it directly in for recording has definitely suited me fine. Same with performing live, going DI into a PA input.
I'll say, I absolutely LOVE my Katana 50 watt. For my needs it's honestly perfect. I researched and looked for months before buying this amp. I really just wanted something for bedroom rocking and I wanted it to be at least 40-50 watts solid state so I had the option of gigging with it for small clubs. I am very happy I bought this amp and not some of the others in it's price range. No matter the type of player you are you will find many uses for this. I happen to own many effects pedals but this is a new phenomenon for me. I am 34 and played bass and Guitar since 16 and aside from a multi fx box or two I have never owned a pedal. But this last year I have gone all out on pedals. I now always have an Overdrive, Compressor, Distortion, Delay and fuzz or something on my pedal board. This amp is a dream for pedal stacking. I keep it on the clean channel and I can basically get any sound or tone I want in seconds. Compared to an old Fender chorus 2x10 amp I have or a small Marshall, this amp is so incredibly quite with pedals. It's perfect for this.. However, the stock channels and effects that come on this amp are amazing. If I didn't have any pedals it would still be perfect. The crunch channel is great and chuggy. The lead is nice and gainy. The brown channel is my favorite and sounds incredible. The built in delay and reverb are great too and even WITHOUT going and downloading the extra effects you still have many options. The only possible issue I can see, and it's not really an issue with all of the options, .. The clean channel is VERY clean. It lacks alot of character you might be expecting. Now, with a little reverb and delay from the stock effects really spice it up. But there is a little bit of a jump from the clean to crunch channel. So I could see some tone chasers commenting on that but like I said with all of the built in stuff it should not be an issue. Great big sound from the "12 speaker. And it has option of switching from 50 watts to 25 down to .5. I keep it on 25 and turn it a bit louder to get that nice extra beefy tone out of it... I love it. 9.5/10
Like many others here, I am totally blown away with the Katana 50. Even before you consider the silly price, this amp does the business on any level. But when you do consider the price and value for money, its in a class of its own. Up until now, I have hated solid state amps with a passion. Can't say that anymore. The only negative critic I can muster is that I wish it had the 4 way channel switching capability that the 100w version has. You can set-up 4 channels via two footswitches but the changes can be quite cumbersome when you need to switch hurriedly between patches. I play in a covers band, and the ability to switch rapidly between sounds is a must. So, I am still (mostly) using outboard stomp boxes, which is daft when you consider that most of the sounds are available in the K50. Asked Boss if there the K50 will ever be endowed with that capability. But alas, apparently not. Finally; I back-to-back tested the 50 and the 100 and also like others here the 50 just sounded better to my ears, more punchy. So I bought the 50 Watt version. Oh and one other thing, again probably a question of taste; I really like the sound of my Katana 50 when the back is close to a wall or other solid object. No idea why that should be. Maybe someone with a degree in acoustics can explain.
First of all this is the best fu*king amp rewiev I have ever seen. I want to buy a new amp and there is a lot to choose from but I like this one the most, u just made my day with this rewiev and made me want the amp eaven more haha, keep up the great work bro.

if it sounds like the GT-8 i use to have then i wouldnt like it. from the video it kinda does, nothing new. digital distortions sound terrible to me. the first time i heard tube distortion i was hooked. the synth sound on the GT-8 was my fav even though it had terrible latency.

Your video title poses the question, Worth the hype? But I don't feel like you answered the question. Do you think it does love you to all the glowing reviews out there?
This amp is just awesome. I got it since several months and I still don't find bad things on it. We are going to record our first album and I'm gonna use the amp for it. And yeah, it djents.
Cool Amp but it is worth paying a bit more for the 100 which uses the GA-FC footswitch and has double the stored channels. Now they have released the Nextone which has blown me away and I am considering getting the 40 watt version of that for my studio to go along with my Katana.
+Darren Hunt, I agree totally. GA-FC footswitch is a must. For the features add FX loop and line out (after preamp) which makes Katana 100 fully gigable for any stadium - with monitoring your playing on stage. Phones/line output on the 50 mutes the speaker.
I contemplated getting the 100, but it was 50% more money and I wanted a practice amp. I keep this amp connected to my computer anyway so I get a range of sounds but for when I take it somewhere, I never use more than 4 channels anyway. You can get a footswitch from Hosa for $20 that works with this amp. Besides I already have a 120watt 2x12" that I never use because it's too much for practicing.
1:00 Not sure if this was on purpose but the stuff you played sounds a lot like Bullet in The Head, cool demo ! And it's great that we can turn down the gain for each amp type !
very good demo , i have the katana 100 but i am not happy with the tone i was getting , so got a blackstar id tvp 260 . and the blackstar is more what i was looking for .
Awesome review - Demo ! Solid State has come a long way , couldnt decide between Katana or Orange but I like keeping it simple as possible and went with the ( Analogue solid state) Orange crush pro ! Awesome amp - Would be great if you can demo that too !!
Great amp, I love mine for at home practice, but it is very bright and I need to turn the bass up full and turn the treble almost off to get "my sound" on the Brown channel. I mostly own tube amps, but do agree that the Katana 50 is all that, particularly considering the price.
Your channel deserves more viewers and more subscribers. Since you have reviewed the Blackstar HT1-R and the Boss Katana 50, I would like to know which one you prefer and why (in the "category" of practice bedroom amp) .
Thanks, I really appreciate it 👍 I think the Katana is going to be better for bedroom, it's also very versatile, the HT1 only has the single ISF tone control. Having said that, I'd also take a look at Blackstar's ID range. The Katana and Blackstar ID series are amazing value for money.
Simply amazing quality TH-cam content right here. BIG question: how is the high-gain sounds when recording via line-out/USB vs microphone? The cleans sounded just fine to me but the high-gain DI quality is a deal breaker for me. Thank you in advance!
Thanks it really does help 👍. This amp has a pretty good DI out, having said that I wouldn't record with any line-out while using a lot of gain. I still haven't found anything that is as good as a mic. It's good for live and cleans though 👍
I try this one in my local store and it sound better than in this video. But if you live in a apartment or small neighbourhood it sound too loud. Unless you do a small gig you don't need this amazing amp. That's why finally i brought home micro cube gx.
I have one of these it takes a bit of time to get it set up and get a tone you like. I don’t like the ridiculous amount of options and needing to plug it into a computer to access all the controls and this is a pain in the arse when you want to just quickly tweak an effect. Also some of the effects are so so which is surprising given boss makes some pretty cool pedals. If you’re new to guitar and want to know what all the effects do buy this amp. If you have some favourite pedals and want a new simple cheap and very dynamic amp that has great tones from blues to metal so from lightnin Hopkins to Pantera get an Orange 🍊 Micro Dark it will blow you away has an fx loop, 3 knobs, 20 watts and will drive a 4x12 or any 8ohm cab. It’s unbelievable.
love how straight to the point this video is. Had to wade through 30-minute videos of just babbling. it's so nice to just have this solid 7 minute video full of nothing but tones.

very good demo , i have the katana 100 but i am not happy with the tone i was getting , so got a blackstar id tvp 260 . and the blackstar is more what i was looking for .
This is excellent work, dude. You made that Harley Benton P90 Tele sound like a $1,500 guitar.
Great contribution and nice p90s guitar!!!

Linkin Park - Valentine's Day
Best amp by far for that price range and way above.
Best demo out there, thanks!
Cheers mate 👍
0:58 Just victims of the in house drive by, they say jump you say how high...
He is watching indeed
The power of the 90s
who else recognised the riff at 1:24 as soon as they heard it
Its Valentines Day by Linkin Park yeah? Ir am I going crazy?
Braxton Frausto i've listened to that song so much fam
instantly recognised it
Instantly turned my head
Until today, I would have said it was best practice amp. But I think a lot of amp companies have responded to the Kantana so I am not as sure anymore.
Love it, Toby! Straight to the point, no bullshit. Subscribed-I just had to!! 🤗❤️😊🙃🤪👍✌️👋🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great video. Subbed.
good demo. thanks
Is it great for 80's metal?
What song at 00:25 ?
Now that i hers that clean n brown ik for sure to get this bad boy
1:23 ah I knew I could recognize that guitar part lol
Them harley bentons sound heavenly!
Awesome review - Demo ! Solid State has come a long way , couldnt decide between Katana or Orange but I like keeping it simple as possible and went with the ( Analogue solid state) Orange crush pro ! Awesome amp - Would be great if you can demo that too !!
Thanks, yeh one day will do. The Crush 20rt blew me away, would love to revisit the crush series 👍
Great amp, I love mine for at home practice, but it is very bright and I need to turn the bass up full and turn the treble almost off to get "my sound" on the Brown channel. I mostly own tube amps, but do agree that the Katana 50 is all that, particularly considering the price.
Presence knoob should be at 1 to get rid off bright sound
Sinner Train I thought the same. You need a weekend of high wattage loud playing to break in the speakers and then it sounds perfect
Does the cat come with the amp? I REALLY NEED TO KNOW THIS!
Cat sold separately 🐈
Your channel deserves more viewers and more subscribers.
Since you have reviewed the Blackstar HT1-R and the Boss Katana 50, I would like to know which one you prefer and why (in the "category" of practice bedroom amp) .
Thanks, I really appreciate it 👍
I think the Katana is going to be better for bedroom, it's also very versatile, the HT1 only has the single ISF tone control.
@@TobysGuitarGearDemos Thank you for the quick reply!
have had mine for probably a year now and i love its tone!
I try this one in my local store and it sound better than in this video. But if you live in a apartment or small neighbourhood it sound too loud.
Unless you do a small gig you don't need this amazing amp. That's why finally i brought home micro cube gx.
I saw crazy railway. Is that crazy train? Is there Peranoia and Bark at the sky in there too?
Very nicely done and through.
THAT "IN LOVING MEMORY" CLEAN PART !
