Ah Vanilla, the only version where i feel truly immersed in the Warcraft universe, where every aspect of the game has an impact and was well thought-out from the OG Devs. I hope the new Dev Team makes the right descisions for Classic +
I've quit wow like 15 years ago but lately wow videos pop on my screen and now i've got nostalgia. I've only played vanilla up to WoTLK clearing all content. Good try to explain the feeling but someone who hasn't been there the first days that wow was released cant understand i think. My first ever character was a dwarf priest because i wanted to play alliance and looking at race base stats i saw dwarves were the strongest but also i thought healing myself would be cool too. Thats how newbies we were. I ended up doing Molten Core at lvl 56 because dwarf priests with fear ward were so rare and guilds were inviting you to fear ward tanks for first boss. Man...epic times and life on easy mode back then. Cheers!
I will never forget getting Corrupted Ashbringer as long as I live. I cannot even name a single piece of gear I obtained in the last two retail expansions.
It was realistic world building. You dont get all this stuff for granted and are assumed to be the hero of azeroth or the world or whatever expansion. You enter as someone who really doesnt have alot going for them in regards to greater perspective of the world. You were basically a poor person who had a talent in a different class field, went through the basic training course and was sent to a location to fight wolves or boars. Everything you got after that you earned and that made it YOURS and because how LONG it took it became YOU. And there were so many roads to gain power in so many different ways in the long lineage of the game that it became addictive and people didnt care about RL anymore and would play 12-16hrs per day. Until of course you got to clear the latest raid and everything became raidlog at endgame, (aka END OF THE GAME). Also the world was huge and as ebon said you felt rewarded finding shortcuts and would wonder at new zones. In my opinion this game was way way too small as even in vanilla standards the game was expected that 400k players world wide would be a massive success. and we ended up with 14 million in 3 years. And then in the private server era we went from having 500 players or 2.5k players on the big servers in vanilla to having 20k players on servers and 27k players in the que in 2019. Chris Metzen always said the main character was the world in world of warcraft and he was right and unfortunately in the modern era the world is tiny endgame raiding with a million ppl crammed into one zone.
For that Blizzard would need to do something about known "degenerate" shortcuts like spamming dungeons 24/7 or mage AoE grinds. They would need to increase the total experience required to fill those gaps with new zones and quest that shake up known routes and bring back that sense of discorvery. I proposed something like that on reddit and it got downvoted into oblivion. The community survey that has been made also supports even shorter level times than og vanilla. Stuff like summoning stones, a game balance around pve with no regard for pvp and so on and so forth. Blizzard would need to act against the popular (and in my opinion wrong) opinion and force people to embrace the friction, just as vanilla has done so in the past. We will see if they have the balls to do that, honestly I am very skeptical if they'd ever dare to double down on it rather than just give people the rush rush rush endgame into infinite (dungeon+) game mechanics before they'd risk upsetting a significant part of their "modern" customer base. We will see, maybe Blizzard does understand.
@@tedrasiel Not even a single chance. 50% of theirs player base are idiots they not gona chnage they like as it is. This classic bullshit will not happen. Play game or not its simple u enoy it or not rest is just waste of time
Man I feel you I want this so bad. Ive had more friends for more years because of wow then real life. It's crazy but that game brought you together in a way that couldn't be replicated irl.
The feeling of accomplishment does it for me and think for most players it is the same whether they realize it or not. Great content, thanks for the time you put into this game. It is appreciated.
"Terribly optimized" I think is less mind-numbing than being super optimized... why be stuck on a conveyor belt when you can go wherever, discover whatever, and have a unique experience every time you play :)
100% agree. Classic is amazing because despite there being no optimization, it lets you essentially go in whatever direction and play however you want.
Classic is great because leveling isn't an afterthought. In retail, leveling seems like a rushed, obligatory step to get you to the level cap. In classic it's immersive, full of varied content, and of course nostalgic too. Beats the pants off leveling 1-60 in a single zone in a matter of hours. You're not skipping the game, you're actually PLAYING it!
i think i can agree with 99% of what you said there. this game is so brutal and because of that when you get what you want its extra rewarding. the only thing is AV, at no point was a 4 day AV fun. haha
Progression was slow, but constant. You couldn't reach the max level in a day or two, so levelling was made meaningful with new talents every level and ability training every other level. Every item upgrade was big. Especially weapons for classes who were dependant on them. A new two handed weapon could almost double your damage. And the levelling was hard despite raids being easier. It was fine though, because very few people raided, but everyone was doing levelling at a certain point for a significant amount of time. It wasn't just slow. The world felt dangerous, and dying was always a possibility during levelling unlike retail.
flying mounts is one of the biggest turn-offs for me. World doesnt feel dangerous at all, everyone just zooming past everything, land on the objective, do the quests and feel some "forced" community cus u see other players doing the same quest, then u zoom off again on ur 300% mount. World doesnt feel alive, u dont see other players outside the "forced" quest hubs. Classic plus new route without flying mounts pls
First thing is that WoW Vanilla had zero competition. It was essentially was Netflix was to streaming when streaming became a thing. WoW Vanilla set the MMO benchmark. It was created in a time where people had an abundance amount of time to spend on a PC. Now that’s just not doable. Classic + will fail if It carries this mindset. Deviate Delight didn’t bring more players into Classic Era, It only created an event where Classic Era population will converge towards one location. And guess what, after 3 months it’s dead. Classic + needs to be more streamlined and better with time efficiency. If you like the grind, guess what, you have classic era that isn’t going away. People don’t want that anymore hence why Classic + became to existent. I firmly believe that Blizzard is going the right direction based on those questions from the Survey that went out
It can't be the second part because it isn't. It's a process of "better than" rather than being good. Hear me out, Retail SUCKS, since BFA it's been absolutely garbage, so going back in 2019 was great, it was fun, it was nice. BUT having played Wrath Classic and Cata Classic it reminds me how the good the game CAN be. Cata/MoP is PEAK wow, and Wrath and WoD are great too, it's 100 times better than retail and still 50 times better than vanilla. We are peaking baby in Classic-progression servers!
You know best mmorpgs is about suffering together, every time, not torture ofc, just the old grinds and challenges. Personally I loved leveling in classic with tbc expansion/system. My take is that mmo's should start zone progressions, so you can have both horizontal and vertical progression, otherwise slow in parts of the zone, but fast between bigger zone/area.
*People confuse Nostalgia with the Game being Good, when infact it was actually Bad.* *You can restart "Classic" 10 000 times, and it will never be the same as the first time.* *If you want to go on an Adventure and find Discoveries and Fresh-Content, go play Retail.* *Or even better - GO PLAY ANOTHER MMORPG.* 😎
What made you fall in love with the Classic World? What was your story that made WoW so important to you?
Ppls everexpanding copium for classic+😂

the comment about exploring into skull zones was so true. the time wasted to just check out new zones was immense
Class balance is what destroys mmo. It's the chaos that makes vanilla so amazing.
It was realistic world building.

hoping Classic+ has the same feel, and isn't super streamlined EZ
I have full faith that Classic+ will deliver on the vibe that made us all love Classic and Vanilla WoW.

What is classic plus? Is that world of warcraft classic going all the way up to the current expansions?
We'll see if they actually listened to the feedback given during SoD

this is an awesome video topic i feel like a lot of people can understand and u nailed it completely , well done i loved your points :D

Lovely friction, good vibrations and rhythmic pounding - Ebonhardt's classic nostalgia Kappa
No lube of course ***
Played on and off since 2004, im 30 now and a father of two and I just convinced my wife to play Classic Era with me, good times

The grind in vanilla to R14, good memories.
its the last game was finished when they released even though they still had TBC mostly figured out in the long run. If i remember correctly.....

Vanilla > all other expansions
It sucks because of megaservers and layers.
Blizz destroyed the community. Same thing that happened the first time around.
there is nothing like vanilla, period

R14 back then was like be USA and Russia president at same time meanwhile you set foot on the moon.
You said it all.
We all enjoy some friction now and then.

Exactly on point. There are ways to improve Classic, but it's whole original charm was solely due to it being the amalgamation that it is.
Jones Linda Hall Shirley Wilson Barbara
the new one isnt even the same game. it sucks compaired to the old ones
Who asked for this type of videos. You're abit late to the party buddy.
