- The new Volkswagen T-Cross slightly longer and just under six inches taller than a Polo. The T-Cross is classed as ‘an urban SUV’ rather than an off-roader; there’s certainly no four-wheel-drive version planned.The T-Cross comes with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which drive the front wheels through either manual five and six or seven-speed auto twin-clutch gearboxes. Entry models have 95BHP and R Line editions have 115BHP. Our first taste of the car came in the guise of the 1.0 TSI 95BHP in SE trim. The T-Cross cabin feels wide with good room up front and enough second-row space for three adults to sit comfortably in line Boot space isn’t massive, with 385 litres only 10% bigger than in a Polo, but sliding the back seats down, it rises to 455 litres.
The T-Cross’s cabin is one plainly built to a price, and made predominantly of plastic moulding thats hard to the touch but generally robust.
VW’s 1.0-litre engine develops a decent amount of torque and makes the cars performance feel strong enough, although it can feel slightly unresponsive at times. Economy is more than respectable as it approaches 50mpg in cruise control mode.

The shelf fits perfectly under the floor of the boot
Why isn’t the T-Cross offered with the 150PS 1.5 TSI Evo in the UK like in the Seat Arona, and why isn’t a folding passenger seat available on UK-spec T-Crosses either?
Really interested in buying this car!
Do you know whether with me, my wife and three high school youngsters and the boot full of luggage the 1.0 115 TSI with manual 6 speed gearbox would be adequate for motorways?
Also engine weatherstrip where windshield wipers are, looks too narrow at the sides, are there adequate sink holes there to avoid water ingress in the engine bay?

Sir why are you driving the manual and not the DSG automatic?

Great engine as loads of torque parcel shelves need binning
One major issue that everyone seems to miss including VW conveniently, is that the T cross only has 40 litre fuel tank capacity. That's a smaller tank than some smaller cars. Meaning filling up more often and less range of miles. It's a major flaw and vw doesn't even mention it on its brochure.
It’s a push button start on higher spec models.

Great video, but the Audio requires some work - too crackly
Good review but the sound quality is really not great - it is really actually very distracting. Lighting is also not great.
Nice review like the fact you tested the basic model most reviewers go for the top spec I'm not a fan of gadgets i drive a karoq and would never go back to saloon cars far more comfort sitting higher up this T cross looks good value at 17,000 pounds.

Keith Isaacs you got that wrong… It’s not the basic model! It is the SE model
Totally agree - I’m willing to trade the needless gadgets for a higher driving position which is more comfortable and even more fun. I have a t cross and I prefer it to my 2016 golf convertible.
Will this be released in Canada?
I have asked VW about this and the reply was not as yet but never say never!

Absolutely no problem at all I always try and ask the manufacturers questions just don’t always get the answer I want. Will keep you updated if I hear anything

350-380 is base boot not 450 liters!! dont count with slidding rear seats because nobody can sit on it then and it is without point!! VW a grupation start to lie and give false information about boot

Sorry to keep nagging but your audio is absolutely terrible… If you’re going to spend so much time and hard work making these videos then the least you can do is make sure your audio levels are right before you start filming!
