Cloaca 'Poop Machine' at MONA

- At the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, there is an installation that is essentially a 'poop machine'. It is vile. I could not get the taste (yes taste) out of my mouth for about a day. But it's worth a look at because at 2pm the machine actually commits to doing the 'act'.

Worst ice cream shop ever.
Yes the smell was gross. I didn't go into the room very far or stay very long. The only other person in there was a museum attendant and she looked decidedly unhappy.

I worked on the toilet exhaust system for this room, and it was designed to exhaust air, but not to much, as they wanted the smell to linger a bit, to create a better experience for the musuem goers....

I've been to Mona and i've seen this machine, it smells musky yet like something rotten. I think its a robotic version of the human digestive track were dangerous bacteria can grow. Thats what the info said. I didn't see it poo though.
Did someone really try to applaud it for defecating in a petri dish?!

Came here from H3 podcast because Michael from Vsauce mentioned this thing. This machine is so interesting. Would have made an amazing talking point back when I was in certain Highschool classes.

Actually this "Poop machine" was made in 2013, I don't know where you're getting this information from, that this was made in 2019 - Please get your facts straight before you most a false comment ;)
Indeed, and the first such machine was built in the early turn of the century. First time I heard about it was in 2007, I believe...

Its honestly really boring to stand and watch. Nothing really happens most of the time. We looked at it and left because it smelled bad and nothing was coming out of it or moving. And thats how it is every time we've seen it. Big letdown.
Journal Day 23:
Visited the machine again. Still no poop. I've grown accustomed to the smell but not the disappointment. My wife is growing restless, I'm worried that she might leave me. I've found myself blacking out during quiet moments, discovering doodles and notes in my handwriting when I come to. I am no engineer but I believe they are schematics for the device. If this madness overtakes me, I fear I might do something terrible...

Haha no you're not but you might as well be because the taste lingers on your tongue for like 3 days. It was absolutely gross! But well worth the experience :)

Oh it's something alright! Catch the ferry (MONA ROMA) to 'complete' the experience.
Also there are some bits where they ask you to take off your shoes so perhaps don't wear anything too annoying to take off when you go i.e. I think they do a Japanese Tea Ceremony on a mirrored glass floor every Friday (try to go when it's on!) but you can still check out the place at other times.. just without your shoes :)
