FYI - If you hold ALT with the gear tool-tip up, it'll let you mouse into the tool-tip without removing it, allowing you to scan the info. If you then click on an underlined piece of text, it'll lock that subsequent tool-tip for more reading. (Might be control key, pretty sure it's alt tho)
Appreciate all the help to the community! Was playing SRS infernalist witch and got to cruelty difficulty but the fire animations was just frying my eyes out and blinding my buddy as well who plays warrior with me lmao this is definitely what I’m switching to
Yea visual clarity with the SRS Witch is definitely a problem currently. I had to build really tanky on my Witch just because seeing on death effects, projectiles and even some telegraphed attacks is really challenging when half my screen is fire. Doesn't help that Flame Wall's effect appears to overlay every other effect I've seen. Maybe if GGG made it have less priority it might be better.
Full damage on the passive tree is the way to go right now. I've done this on my Merc and dude is melting the campaign bosses. I've not even been following a guide, DPS just trumps everything.
haven’t even played the game yet & stoked to see this. Crazy how lightning pans out to be far better for Ranger long term than Sorc, & Sorc meta is all about being ice queen. We love that

Raxx turned me onto PoE (although I never played it) and thus PoE 2 and can’t thank you enough. I get it’s a different pace from the usual D4 or other comps but I enjoy it and it’s great to be apart of a game community where feedback and criticism is requested with a developer that actually listens. Ready to ride this wave for years to come
My Ranger is only lvl 12, but just following the first couple of skill/support recommendations has boosted my DPS by 5-6x (based on kill time, I didn't check the numbers). Always appreciated the build guides you & Rhykker did for Diablo - glad you're around for POE2.
For those asking me how, there is literally a rune under "all runes" not class specific to ranger that is cast on shock. Its a spirit gem. Thats how. I run cast on shock and have Voltaic Mark, Conductivity, and precision slotted in it. Works pretty well.
Great video as usual. Just wanted to let you know, @10:04 when you said you couldnt move your mouse while hovering the bow, if you hold alt, then it locks the tooltip in place and you can hover over it to read what everything does! (or point at things for the viewers)
haha, was in early Act 3 absolutely hating the Deadeye, shaking my head at this video (Surely Raxx bought all his gear and steamrolled on a juiced reroll). Respecced my tree and Lightning arrow went from 600dps to over 1000. Thanks man!

thank you rax im new to arpgs and i picked monk first and used it for 40 hours and im about to pull my hair out im struggling so at this very moment i tried to switch to ranger and bam u just uploaded it thank you
Weird. Maybe your gear isn't too great. Monk kinda slaps the entire game from the looks of it. I played through Act 1 with it and it was great imo. TH-cam is also full of clips of different monk builds all destroying every stage of the game. I've seen Act 2 boss killed in a minute, Act 3 in like 30s and tons of even later content too just obliterated by the different Monk builds.
Hi Rax, started a similar Build without looking up Guides. Im at Lvl 42 now. I've found out that using Orb of Storms with Lightning Rod and Lightning Arrow will melt down Bosses. Very chill Playstyle after Act 1. And of Course: Good Guide, waiting for more
It is honestly stupid that the simple tip to go all damage helped so much. Was stuck on the final boss of act 1 last weekend. 7-8 tries and then quit. Came back and did it first try. Thanks dude
Brother the game isn't about tanking through most shit anymore. You have to use dodge and positioning, it's a little closer to souls games. 10 tries is literally the bare minimum. Keep trying till you get it right enough to avoid enough attacks.
hey rax, gotta say, huge props for dropping the guide. been following your deadeye ranger run from the streams step by step, and while it’s been fun trying to keep up with the live decisions, it’s clear the official guide is way more polished. i made it to act 3 just rewatching the streams, and i could tell some of the passive choices were more experimental in the moment. feels like the build is way more focused and efficient with this version. really appreciate the effort you put into making it beginner-friendly too! great work, man, this is very helpful. cheers!
May switch up my build and give this a try. I went Harness the Elements -> Surging Currents -> Frazzled with Freedom of Movement & Escape Velocity for defense. I've been shredding the screen, though, bosses do still take a couple minutes but with 70% evasion I'm in near no threat of danger. I'm only level 30 (Deadeye) and have not prioritized my bow/quiver the way you suggest. Appreciate the tips as always! Keep slayin'!

Love your content Raxx! Regarding monk: I started as a Merc (Gemling) myself and got him to 76 befor starting a monk. The first levels were pretty slowly and felt kinda underwhelming (used the standard quaterstaff). But after I got lvl 14 and Ice Strike (together with Herold of the frost and the bell) my monk started to go craaaazy. Now I'm already at lvl 55 and I am blasting through the campagne. Your hate boss, the goofy lady in her mud bath? Dont worry about her mechanics - cuz there wont be any. Just killed her in freeze lock in like 10 seconds. As nearly all other bosses. Ultra mobile, evasive and a huge dmg output. I love my monk!
cant wait to see you on monk, I messed around with my cold one yesterday in the tree. Between that and crafting a new quarterstaff, DPS almost quadrupled. and where im at in my tree im surrounded by more damage nodes I can take, and a ton of energy/evasion too for later as I need more defense. Your vids are helping a ton with HOW to build my characters. Going off no builds, just what ive learned. Feel like im starting to actually get it lol
This was my league start build. I will say I think that you really want to consider the quiver nodes towards the middle of your pathing. It is not worth it early when your quiver is magic rarity but as you get something nice the extra flat damage you will get from those nodes is basically unachievable anywhere else. Also stormcaller arrow is very strong for single target damage, but does NOT work with pierce. Its worth considering before you commit to pierce. Great guide.
I've been playing mostly relying on lightning rod for dmg and scaling lightning dmg. I also went to 43 int to grab orb of storms, so now I put it down and then when I cast lightning rod I immediately chain it, it's pretty nice. I'm new to the game so discovering these things felt rly good. I don't think my variant is stronger than yours. Another thing to mention is how strong life on hit is with ranger, as you have sooo many instances of hits with rod and light arrow that you fully heal on each cast almost, that will be enough survival for non boss fights.
I was randomly making a ranger, got to the act 1 boss and died. Looked at gear and armor was shit, lucked upon a unique chest that tripled my armor stat. Went back and died on the last phase. Did nothing other than respeccing to your passive tree and it wasn’t even close, he died quickly. Thanks 🤘🏻
Bottom Center from Merc side of the tree is a node called "Lightning Rod" which makes non-crit lightning damage Lucky, super important for any lightning non-crit build. If it's too far can try anointing it.
I started the game and beat Act 1 with a Monk and it was incredibly punishing, and I thought that was just the intended design experience of the game. Then my second character I rolled a Ranger and basically just fell into doing what he's outlining in this video purely by coincidence. I never died once. Hugely different experiences.
I was nodding my head many times in this build guide. I struggled a lot with my minion witch in act 1 and 2, spent several farming runs changing out my build trying to be more survivable and my take away was: damage, damage, damage. I never felt like I was doing enough damage. Having like 1k shield at level 25 meant you might survive 1 more hit you otherwise wouldn't, but bosses pretty much still 1 shot you with certain moves anyway. I always felt like the less time you spent in the boss fight(your damage), the more likely you are to survive anyway.
Hey Rax, could you make a guide on how to craft good weapons/armor? I think for many beginners it is not understandable how many get weapons with a damage range of 350-530 but nobody is talking about it for some reason, many thanks!
I'm running this since yesterday and... its freaking amazing. Also, I tried your suggestions and my build is definitely pulling ahead of my old setup. I just found out you can hold down shift on abilities and you'll show you the dps increase of associated skills right there in the tree. Freaking amazing. Last, it seems you didn't go for the quiver bonuses, you can get 80% more quiver bonuses, which I think is worth a ridiculous amount of DPS. I'll have to test it out though to see if it's worth taking or not.
I started this game as a monk. I finally got to act 2 this morning after being hard stuck on Geonor for so long, and then got hard stuck again while trying to do my ascendancy trials. I eventually gave up and decided to build a ranger. I was contemplating it for so long because I had already invested so much time into my monk but figured even if I pass this hurdle I’m probably going to get stuck somewhere else. The difference is night and day. I’ve been playing Ranger for a few hours and I’m already almost up to my ascendancy trial having died 4 times in total. I didn’t even die to Geonor once and didn’t spend any time farming levels or items. Most of the time I wasn’t even playing with audio I was just listening to a podcast. I’m having more fun with this game in the past few hours than I have for the last week. I like difficulty but after what felt like banging my head against a wall for a week I was losing my patience. I’m currently level 20 and I have three skills. The standard bow, lightning shot, and that ice evade. I haven’t had the need for anything else
Another great guide -- thank you Rax. Not sure if anyone else requested this or would find it useful, but as someone new to PoE a guide on stash tabs? I notice the crazy amount of tabs you have. Which should we buy? Which are highest priority? etc. Would anyone else find this useful?
You can use shock as well. There are a lot of passive abilities along the way , and electrified effects can give you more damage (Thunderstruck,Rattled,Frazzled)
I hope Rax is doing a Ranger guide in the future so i can compare my decision with his. For me as a Poision ranger, there is no way i could only go for dmg bec i just instand die in maps for that half of my points in the passiv tree are evasion and also my gear is fulli invested in evasion (i have 92 %evasion normaly and 81 % with the node that reduces evasion by 70 % but now i can evade all dmg but DoT) and the fact that i am still dieing in my T3 or even sometimes T2 maps is just insane i tried multiple variations of my build (no gasarow) and i still gat handelt in maps.(my boss dmg is insane but just way to less on huge packs)

This gave me some ideas. Didn't think about pathing over to snipe the merc damage nodes. I've been running the Ranger as my main. Started off with poison-arrow, which is much stronger early levels than lightening. But I've switched over to lightening as my primary attack and now melting stuff. I did take the first set of evade nodes (following the path down to the attribute node) just for a bit of survivability. But probably won't grab any more. Pierce lightening arrow + multishot lightening rod is a room-clearing powerhouse and boss melter. Cleared the Act 1 boss first try with this setup (and the occasional poison arrow just to keep some extra damage tics going). And Snipe makes an easy cheap-shot when the boss is stunned.

While leveling, yes there is a Dualstring Bow also has additional arrow (level 28ish)
Change Voltaic Mark to "Cast on shock" and add mark there. Its great.

frost monk is an absolute god. teleport around the map freeze everything with giga damage. Bosses are frozen like 75% of the time lol

cant wait to see you on monk, I messed around with my cold one yesterday in the tree. Between that and crafting a new quarterstaff, DPS almost quadrupled. and where im at in my tree im surrounded by more damage nodes I can take, and a ton of energy/evasion too for later as I need more defense. Your vids are helping a ton with HOW to build my characters. Going off no builds, just what ive learned. Feel like im starting to actually get it lol
this saves my day. It´s kind of counter intuitiv to ignore the defense in the tree but it´s working great.

This was my league start build. I will say I think that you really want to consider the quiver nodes towards the middle of your pathing. It is not worth it early when your quiver is magic rarity but as you get something nice the extra flat damage you will get from those nodes is basically unachievable anywhere else. Also stormcaller arrow is very strong for single target damage, but does NOT work with pierce. Its worth considering before you commit to pierce. Great guide.

I've been playing mostly relying on lightning rod for dmg and scaling lightning dmg. I also went to 43 int to grab orb of storms, so now I put it down and then when I cast lightning rod I immediately chain it, it's pretty nice. I'm new to the game so discovering these things felt rly good. I don't think my variant is stronger than yours.
Another thing to mention is how strong life on hit is with ranger, as you have sooo many instances of hits with rod and light arrow that you fully heal on each cast almost, that will be enough survival for non boss fights.

I was randomly making a ranger, got to the act 1 boss and died. Looked at gear and armor was shit, lucked upon a unique chest that tripled my armor stat. Went back and died on the last phase. Did nothing other than respeccing to your passive tree and it wasn’t even close, he died quickly. Thanks 🤘🏻
i would add, for me in act 2, i like having barrage, its nice for laying out a field of ele rods or even just the arrows

That +25 attribute node feels mandatory. Needed it on Witch too, luckily there are good nodes around it
Bottom Center from Merc side of the tree is a node called "Lightning Rod" which makes non-crit lightning damage Lucky, super important for any lightning non-crit build. If it's too far can try anointing it.

Frost strike on monk makes everything easy mode when combined with bell

I started the game and beat Act 1 with a Monk and it was incredibly punishing, and I thought that was just the intended design experience of the game. Then my second character I rolled a Ranger and basically just fell into doing what he's outlining in this video purely by coincidence. I never died once. Hugely different experiences.

I was nodding my head many times in this build guide. I struggled a lot with my minion witch in act 1 and 2, spent several farming runs changing out my build trying to be more survivable and my take away was: damage, damage, damage. I never felt like I was doing enough damage. Having like 1k shield at level 25 meant you might survive 1 more hit you otherwise wouldn't, but bosses pretty much still 1 shot you with certain moves anyway. I always felt like the less time you spent in the boss fight(your damage), the more likely you are to survive anyway.

Hey Rax, could you make a guide on how to craft good weapons/armor? I think for many beginners it is not understandable how many get weapons with a damage range of 350-530 but nobody is talking about it for some reason, many thanks!

I'm running this since yesterday and... its freaking amazing.
Also, I tried your suggestions and my build is definitely pulling ahead of my old setup. I just found out you can hold down shift on abilities and you'll show you the dps increase of associated skills right there in the tree. Freaking amazing.
Last, it seems you didn't go for the quiver bonuses, you can get 80% more quiver bonuses, which I think is worth a ridiculous amount of DPS. I'll have to test it out though to see if it's worth taking or not.

I started this game as a monk. I finally got to act 2 this morning after being hard stuck on Geonor for so long, and then got hard stuck again while trying to do my ascendancy trials.
I eventually gave up and decided to build a ranger. I was contemplating it for so long because I had already invested so much time into my monk but figured even if I pass this hurdle I’m probably going to get stuck somewhere else. The difference is night and day.
I’ve been playing Ranger for a few hours and I’m already almost up to my ascendancy trial having died 4 times in total. I didn’t even die to Geonor once and didn’t spend any time farming levels or items. Most of the time I wasn’t even playing with audio I was just listening to a podcast.
I’m having more fun with this game in the past few hours than I have for the last week. I like difficulty but after what felt like banging my head against a wall for a week I was losing my patience. I’m currently level 20 and I have three skills. The standard bow, lightning shot, and that ice evade. I haven’t had the need for anything else
Gonna try archer after work. Just switch from lightning sorc to ice and it’s amazing. Thanks raxx

Not sure if anyone else requested this or would find it useful, but as someone new to PoE a guide on stash tabs? I notice the crazy amount of tabs you have. Which should we buy? Which are highest priority? etc. Would anyone else find this useful?
You can use shock as well. There are a lot of passive abilities along the way , and electrified effects can give you more damage (Thunderstruck,Rattled,Frazzled)
I hope Rax is doing a Ranger guide in the future so i can compare my decision with his.
For me as a Poision ranger, there is no way i could only go for dmg bec i just instand die in maps for that half of my points in the passiv tree are evasion and also my gear is fulli invested in evasion (i have 92 %evasion normaly and 81 % with the node that reduces evasion by 70 % but now i can evade all dmg but DoT) and the fact that i am still dieing in my T3 or even sometimes T2 maps is just insane i tried multiple variations of my build (no gasarow) and i still gat handelt in maps.(my boss dmg is insane but just way to less on huge packs)

This gave me some ideas. Didn't think about pathing over to snipe the merc damage nodes.
I've been running the Ranger as my main. Started off with poison-arrow, which is much stronger early levels than lightening.
But I've switched over to lightening as my primary attack and now melting stuff.
I did take the first set of evade nodes (following the path down to the attribute node) just for a bit of survivability. But probably won't grab any more.
Pierce lightening arrow + multishot lightening rod is a room-clearing powerhouse and boss melter.
Cleared the Act 1 boss first try with this setup (and the occasional poison arrow just to keep some extra damage tics going).
And Snipe makes an easy cheap-shot when the boss is stunned.
