Sturgill won the Grammy for best country album a few years ago. Then a month or two later he wasn’t even invited to the Country Music Awards. He stood outside the show and played his songs on 5he sidewalk! Damn shame he got shafted
My lord there’s some bad information in these comments. For one, Sturgill damn sure isn’t a Bluegrass artist. He’s arguably the best country songwriter alive (Steve Earle and John Prine being the only other living songwriters anywhere near his class), and his last album was the best country album of the last 2 decades. It was so good he won the Grammy for country album of the year, despite nobody knowing who in the hell he was. Check out his performance of Call to Arms on SNL. They had repair crews working 18 hour shifts for the entire week after it to replace the ceiling he blew off of the studio. Also, this wasn’t a planned performance. He was in New York and Chris told him to come down for rehearsal. Then they both got fucked up and thought it would be fun if he played with the band. I think Chris may have sobered up some by the time of the show, but Sturgill is higher than giraffe pussy. In addition to being a songwriting genius Sturgill is also a virtuoso guitarist, so he’s getting away with it, but he’s actually playing far, far below his ability here because he’s so inebriated.
