    This makes me sad. They don’t even seem like genuinely awful kids, especially the boy with the bape shirt, they just are a product of their environment. Seeing someone get shot at 11? I can even imagine what that would’ve done to me mentally at that age. You can just tell if they grew up in different environments and we had a better school system things might’ve looked different 😩 i wish them well

      We need both sides. Because it’s people who sit behind computers in the suburbs who act like this is a game and this is entertainment to them. So if we shed light on these environments more people can see it as wrong instead of entertainment and maybe potentially put more resources into these neighborhoods so that the cycle can die down. I’m from detroit. Detroit is the largest city in Michigan but suburb schools are funded more. You can’t even bring home books from school and they expect people to take their study’s seriously when you can’t even read out of a textbook at home. Shit like that matters to what goes on in the hood. But people who aren’t close to the hood won’t even know that and would just think people just wanna do bad. When In reality everyone just wants to take care of the people they care about even if they go about it in the wrong way.

    I appreciate the fact you did this. I'm a white dude who grew up in the 5th Ward in Houston and I really hate the way this usually gets portrayed in the news. These are human beings, and people I can relate to. Reminds me of my childhood friend Desmond. He got roped up in some shit and I was sent off to live with my dad in the DFW area. I went from being surrounded by people who are products of their environment in the sense they had to adjust to the circumstances, to people who were products of ignorance. A lot of America sees this and thinks they're just stereotypes. But they're people. Doing things you'd all be doing if your circumstances force that to happen. I was fortunate and had a network to take me in when my mom had enough of her child being inner city Houston. These fellas aint got that. The legal, education and infrastructure system doesnt love them. Suburban america forgets how rough America used to be, and for these dudes it never changed. They dont make excuses about it either. I dont like it. But i understand and respect the fact they at least want out.

      @@allaboutthemurzic I didn't say anything about safe, that concept is arbitrary. My GFS autistic cousin thinks everything outside their door is unsafe. The difference is suburbs have resources the hood doesn't. "Rough" means you're in an area that doesn't provide the necessities for civilized life compared to it's other surrounding areas. Suburbs have well funded schools, job opportunities, amenities from local parks and community centers like libraries and event venues. I live in a nice apartment and an ex cop had a gun fight in our breezeway with other police on Christmas morning. That isn't news to me, but I get your point. But it's disingenuous to pretend like the vast majority of the population south of Chicago is at risk for being killed or harmed. @Dr Dumbo There is safety in numbers. I have no problem dashing by myself, but when I run into other dashers there are usually two or more riding around. Being by myself makes me an easy target for crime if it were to happen, being a solo female driver in a city with one of the highest rates of violent crime, murder, and carjacking is taking a risk. I love the city, and I meet good people everywhere I go, but when my card gets pulled that's it. Thankfully, I've had nothing but kindness on the streets from all kinds of people.

    • @Callie83
      @Callie83 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @Fat Mac You are so correct. I meet some of the best people out on the streets in St. Louis. The diversity is there, but the opportunities are not a given. We have kids from out of state that pay just under $50,000 a year for SLU, just under $60,000 for WASH U, before room and board, but kids that grew up on these streets don't have the same opportunity. Income inequality will always be the bigest disadvantage to overcome. We need to support our communities and have more positive role models. This all starts at home, on these streets, with kids like these. Their confidence and talent are amazing, and I sincerely hope to run across one of them in one of those big fancy houses one day. Prayers for the city indeed.

    As a kid born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri(I’m still a teenager), I’ve seen multiple things happen that is dangerous. I have seen someone get shot infront of my apartment window and kidnappings happen and I did not have a phone to call to the police. I know almost everything I see in this video.

    The Lou has always been nuts but its quickly turning into an actual warzone. Used to love my city, got my BM pregnant and moved to a tiny town south of KcMO. Big UFC fan too, and they're having an event in the Lou in May. My BM wants to go but i legit dont feel comfortable taking her. I'd go, alone or with a friend who knows how to act. She dont tho, she's country. In the beginning when he met up with these kids one said "just no where to look and especially where NOT to look" thats such an important bar. That was my 2nd rule i learned in prison too, not to look in people's houses while walking passed.

    Hey Tommy, I love this video and that you left it on a positive note with Darryl Cobb. Watching those young kids from East St Louis brings back memories. I assure you and anyone reading this that lifestyle is nothing but one of pain and short-lived. This is not a long-term lifestyle and one that will not get anyone anywhere successfully. My father passed away when I was young and I grew up hanging out with kids like that and got blessed to be able to get the hell out of that situation. Most of those people I once hang out with are either dead, in jail or probably homeless. My experience is most of these kids, like myself and those who I once associated myself with do not have fathers or role models. Getting them out of these environments and putting them around positive people, role models, and showing them what possible can is really… make a huge difference.

      In the military and law enforcement communities, there's different names for when something like that happens like ''Accidental Discharge'' and ''Negligent Discharge''. It's a real thing and the one dude was waving the gun around like a tennis racket and even pointing it at the camera very briefly( but I was watching his hands the whole time and he had his finger off the trigger, so that was good trigger discipline) , so something could easily go wrong unintentionally and accidentally.
