Thanks Bruce, this year you taught me a lot about small engine repairs watching your videos. At least, I think I have a good foundation to handle some problems with my own equipment; Snow thrower, Gasoline Engine Generator, lawn tractor, lawn boy rwd mower, sears rwd craftsman, pressure washer, and three lawn trimmers ... one with assorted attachments. So I need someone like you Bruce to learn from ... yes you can't beat experience and you got it.

Yeah, I've run into that problem a few times were it's operator error, last one was a elderly man in his mid 90s, he kept forgetting the process for starting the mower, he kept forgetting he had to pull the bail handle in order to start the mower, and I kept having to keep going back, cause he would become upset, and get mad at me for not fixing his mower, and charging him for house calls, it's hard to watch a person who you've done work for, for many years, starting to show signs of a problem, I was worried about him, if he forgets a simple thing like that should he be left alone, so I had his sons number cause I do work on his mowers too, and let him know, what was happening, and his son thanked me, hope he takes care of his dad..... We will all be there someday, it's just hard to be the one that has to break the news..... Great video BTW.

Yes I have that happen on 2 occasions. One machine there was nothing wrong (My wife talked to his son) and the other an older gent too a big crescent wrench to open a gas shut off and snapped it off. Yes It may happen to us. Thanks again.

My sister and I bought a 14SB for my father for Christmas decades ago. I've since inherited it. I use it each fall to bag leaves, and it still starts on the first pull. There were a few years where the 5-speed transmission wasn't engaging, and then one year the transmission fixed itself - who knows. It does vibrate the knobs for the handle loose all the time, so have to keep an eye on those.

Drill a small hole or two in the knob and simply wire it in place. Still allows you to undo the handles easily at the end of the season or to transport in a vehicle...OR...use Nylock nuts to replace the knobs

The fact they are still running well 20-25yrs later is a testament to that fact...and doing it with a blade brake clutch spinning a heavy duty blade, 5spd HD transmission, ability to mulch, side discharge or bag, aluminum deck and Kawasaki engine...weight is to be expected when something is built this solid Bruce.

I just overhauled my 1990 14SB! This is the Cadillac of mowers when running proper. My model had the old rear wheel adjusters which were a joke. They gave me years of problems. Upgraded the rear wheel adjusters to newer model and now is running the way it was intended too. Most small engine problems are with the carburetors getting clogged up and people will just toss their mower or weed eater in the recycle bin.

The blade clutches are a nightmare. Blade adapter from 14ST allows you to retrofit. You will need to spin the starter housing 90 degrees and extend the rope to start from handle. A eyelet for rope will be needed also. Remember safety as the blade spins all the time.

Great job, I have never had a Kawasaki. Engine come my way. Weren’t they use to be called Wisconsin robin engines
Wait that’s Subaru. And they stopped making small engines few years back.

Right. Kawasaki still makes small engines and i think Subaru is done. I may be wrong though as i was reading it on the internet.

I always wondered why small engines don't have some type of fuel filter. The tank will inevitably get debris from fueling and it goes straight to the metering passages.

Kawasaki 150 has a small screen tube filter in the bottom of the fuel tank.

The is a screen in most small engine gas tanks. A lot of external filters are just a screen too. Interesting isn't it.
