EXCELLENT BRITISH POLITICAL THRILLER MOVIE FOR YOU ALL STAR CAST ❤❤ #subscribe #movie #movies #film #cinema #foryou #mustwatch #love #history #youtube #share
In 1986, just 40 years ago, news copy was produced by typewriter, telephones were land lines, women who worked were generally in support roles, & politicians caught in a scandal felt obliged to resign. Having lived through the 80’s I find the subsequent pace of technological and social change extraordinary, of mixed results, and somewhat frightening. The dark under belly of power, however, remains as constant as hell.
It does but we have also lost the protection of those that have done nothing wrong. Unfortunately sleazy sticks no matter if there are any facts to support it or not.
I appreciated seeing Ian Bannen here. He had a key role in the series "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, as well as other movies. This is a first rate production. Thanks to You Tube.
Back in 1986 people read, and believed, what newspapers reported. Now, very few people do either. I'm not sure the newspapers have changed; rather, we have.
Yea, all the news media was always full of shite mate... we learnt the lessons well and dont trust any of the fuckerz with the global lies and bullshit.
@joannajennings3899 It is problematic, those that support Trump and Brexit mostly consist of small minded bigots with a tablespoon of aggression thrown in discussions are impossible and they are manipulated by those in the right wing media, the level of discussion on channels such as GB News is unbelievable no doubt in a similar vein as fox news..
🤪😜😝😛😛😋. Don't forget the Americans and Russians and Polish and French and German and Italian Actor's too! and some Japanese! Actor's as well that too!!! These people's they're Also very good excellent Actor's Movies Actor's!!! That too!!!! Lol
Fab film - a more innocent era when shame could kill a political career. BoJo slipping away from his security detail for a Tuscan weekend away with a Russian oligarch is a scandal that surpasses this film’s plot.
One of the best British spy thrillers I have seen. Great actors also. Certainly a film that keeps you in suspense front beginning to end. Thanks Scottie for sharing this.
I saw this movie many years ago. I will enjoy watching it once again. A short history of Britain 's secrets legislation. In 1889, the Official Secrets Act provided criminal sanctions for breaches of the law. In 1911, the law was updated and broadened to include criminal penalties for obtaining or disclosure of information without authorization. In 1989, the law created offenses for the unlawful disclosure of official information by government employees. It removed the public interest defense. The Defense of the Realm Act of 1914 (DORA) gave the government wide-ranging powers during the war period. It could requisition land and buildings for the war effort. It could make regulations creating criminal offenses. Now, although this film is fiction, it uses actual events that occurred. Two nuclear incidents did occur around nuclear bombs being damaged in 1956 and 1961. These events were concealed and not revealed until decades later in 2003. There was a sexual scandal known as the Profumo affair in 1961 involving a Russian spy and a British politician involved with the same woman. Now my question is do you think the 2 people who revealed the cover up survived? They don't show the reporter in the last scenes. Perhaps they were hospitalized or out of the country. What do you think?
What a horrendous story brought to life by some excellent actors. It brings to the surface the theory that life is oxygen to many and the ultimate of creation is, in fact, death.
Its an absolute classic in morality of the services and government at the highest level and how they operate and control the media. Brilliant. I watch it several times a year.

@@divingfe Yes, i know what you mean. I've watched other films and television where it looks to me as if they have a 'shorter' story/idea, and then try and 'fill it out' by 'inserting' sub-stories, just adding more to make it look like there's more going on. In this story,
Only because the industry changed dramatically not long afterwards it could be quite 'quaint' as an industry as there were so many aspects from big business to press. It was pivotal to public life now it barely exists
@ Another respondent advised me it's Pachelbel's Canon in D Major. Composer is Johann Pachelbel, and a "Cannon" is a "round" - a song/music form in which three to five voices simultaneously sing a simple melody in unison or octaves starting at different times, often with each performer beginning two measures after the previous singer.

Timeless class. Denholm Elliot is fantastic.
With this film he became the only actor to this day to have won three consecutive BAFTA awards for best supporting actor.
Brilliant depiction of what really went on at the time 😢
And still does, truth be known
This seems almost prehistoric compared to the present day.
