Here in the US telex wasn't played. At least not in so California. But my friend's brother always had these rad import like telex , some cool new order etc. This is top 10 synth song all time
Absolutely brilliant. Loved hearing this on Radio 1 late at night when it was released. I think on John Peel show. So glad i was brought up listening to 80s music instead of the sterile, insipid drivel thats in the charts these days. Cheers Telex, you were awesome. RIP Marc, your music lives on.
Sparks collaborated in this album. Masterpiece. The Sparks collaborated with Moroder one year before in the album N. 1 in Heaven. Incredible years. I was 15 i bought all their discs and i still own them.
Maan! I have been thinking for ages that this song was just a fig of my imagination. By chance I just typed in the only words from the tune that I remembered and found this! I have broken my leg and danced on one crutch for the first time in 3 months! Love the 80's!
This is not "synth-pop" ... it's something more ahead ... it's futurist, electronic music that becomes "pop" ... the same happens with Kraftwerk and electronica of 90s (Daft Punk, the Chemical Brothers, etc ...) ... That's why Telex were so ahead at the time ... synthpop is from 80s, Telex are timeless ...
Rockamerica was a video subscription service for distribution in clubs. Each month they receive a new video cassette with the latest music videos based on their taste preference (Telex was considered "alternative"). Some videos never made it to MTV in the 80's.
Great one. Despite being a long time Telex fan, I didn't know this version - all the other versions I know have the line "Aren't we lovers?" instead of "Aren't we married?", which I see puzzles everyone coming here. Moreover, the arrangement is slightly different, with the solo synth sound changed in comparison to the ohter version.
Actually, considering the lyrics and the kind of "story" they tell, i think the "married" is much "stronger" and more effective ... But "lovers" has been preferred, even in the remasterd version of 2022 !
one of my all time fav's! and in answer to that probing question, ..the original version was "...aren't we Married" the "Lovers version was from a re release of the song! ...now I've got flats to fix and angels to romance and daughters named Sue to spoil!
Here's the lyrics: Haven't we met somewhere before? Stop me if you've heard that before In '42 you had a flat and asked for help I got a pump, an' got your name, I fixed the thing You offered to pay me, but I refused We settled for a dinner - or am I confused? One, two, three times, yeah, I'm gonna ask Aren't we lovers? In '52 we had Sue, she loved us All your friends thought she looked more like you I'd give her candy - I spoiled her Her teeth will fall out is what you'd say One, two, three times, yes, I'm gonna ask again Aren't we married? Don't you remember? I think I do Don't you remember? I'm sure I do You don't know me? Ain't seen me before? Or was that you in a film that I saw? I guess my facts were all wrong There never was you, there never was Sue Wait, you say, you now think you've known me from the past But now I'm really convinced, I don't know you! And if I were asked, I'd have to tell you dear No, we're not lovers I don't remember You're mistaken I can't remember You're mistaken I don't know you, ain't seen you before Or was that me in a film that you saw? Haven't we met somewhere before? Stop me if you've heard that before
One of MY favourite telex trax too- not too sure about the lyrics being changed though ! " Aren't We MARRIED" ??? It's 'LOVERS' isn't it ?????? Fabulous all the same !
Sure, Kraftwerk...but the vocals actually remind me of David Byrne. Reminds me a lot of the Talking Heads. And there are certain sections that remind me of Depeche Mode too. Like 2:15 - 2:24.

Безумно красивое видео. Прекрасная музыка. Лучший альбом телексов.
This is such a chill groove. Can listen to this every day. Something calming about it.
Legendary, i love this song! It got pulled out of Spotify recently, so nice to see that it's still on here
But its not the same version

Telex was so innovative - way ahead if their time.

punchcar I actually got the tapes. they're prob still in my garage somewhere
Why wasn't this a MASSIVE hit?
I agree
Pretty weird cuz made exactly when synthpop got very popular
I remember this! The radio tried to push this way back.

Telex Mode!
There were different versions of the track, and also the album was retitled from "Sex" to "Birds and Bees" in some countries.
incredibilmente avanti: i kraftwerk del Belgio
Here's the lyrics:
Haven't we met somewhere before?
Stop me if you've heard that before
In '42 you had a flat and asked for help
I got a pump, an' got your name, I fixed the thing
You offered to pay me, but I refused
We settled for a dinner - or am I confused?
One, two, three times, yeah, I'm gonna ask
Aren't we lovers?
In '52 we had Sue, she loved us
All your friends thought she looked more like you
I'd give her candy - I spoiled her
Her teeth will fall out is what you'd say
One, two, three times, yes, I'm gonna ask again
Aren't we married?
Don't you remember?
I think I do
Don't you remember?
I'm sure I do
You don't know me? Ain't seen me before?
Or was that you in a film that I saw?
I guess my facts were all wrong
There never was you, there never was Sue
Wait, you say, you now think you've known me from the past
But now I'm really convinced, I don't know you!
And if I were asked, I'd have to tell you dear
No, we're not lovers
I don't remember
You're mistaken
I can't remember
You're mistaken
I don't know you, ain't seen you before
Or was that me in a film that you saw?
Haven't we met somewhere before?
Stop me if you've heard that before
Reminds me a LOT of Yellow Magic Orchestra.
Ich bin der Meinung dass dies wirklich krass! ist
Classic.
GEEZ, Where did this come from?
My FAVOURITE Telex track!
If he squishes a bee on that keyboard it'll be a B FLAT OOOOOOH YEAH

Fabulous all the same !
i mine 80s it was the supper
Very cool
The song written by Ron&Russel Mael (Sparks)
from the LP 'Sex" (It was re-titled 'birds and bees' for the US release. Cool 'tele-funken" sound.
@odorifero
ah. i know what you mean. like everything on "speak & spell" sounded at least a bit like this. i get it now xD. thanks!
Exellent!! 5/5
one person hasn't met telex before...
Wow, tell us something about this!
@odorifero
i don't think so... depeche mode isn't this robotic... i'd love to know where you heard that, though. like, really. i'm curious.
@zetsusama23
Not for this reason. Mainly for the use of synthesizer on the early Depeche Mode tracks.
avanguardia x essere del 1981!!!
No insects were harmed in making this video.
On my version of the album its "lovers" instead of "married" It sounds way weird...
Might be because it was for the American (prudish) market
Watch Peter Greenaway's Zed and Two Naughts and tell me you don't see it.
lyrics please?
It's seems to me this video made by Dieter Meyer?
No, Marc Moulin said it was by Michel Perin
I liked Dan better with a mustache.
A bit Depeche Mode...
Sure, Kraftwerk...but the vocals actually remind me of David Byrne. Reminds me a lot of the Talking Heads. And there are certain sections that remind me of Depeche Mode too. Like 2:15 - 2:24.
как.живёшь.
Rich Evans is a smoking Belgian.
Nice song, shame about the video!
Hilarious!
Kraftwerk sucks. this is much better!
Kraftwerk=shitwerk ( its ok but telex is wayy better )
