Never overclocked a GPU before, but with your explanation it was actually so easy to do. Also the 12 Mhz memory offset is very interesting, that explains why mine was sitting at 1988-1990 all the time, very cool.
I just wanted to drop by and thank you for this absolutely amazing video! This is my first time with an AMD card and my 6800 XT Red Devil did get a bit too hot at times. Undervolted to 1075 mV (very conservative, I think) and while I didn't really push for an freq overclock and my fan curves are still pretty aggressive, I found that Gears 5 just barely reaches 80 degrees on my junction temperature now (big improvement since it reached 115 C at some point). Once again, thank you very much for your content!

Yes, because the slider works as an offset. Increasing the power limit makes the frequency go higher, hence increasing the base voltage, making the offset slider work fine :D

@@imblondu I have a different card now but at the time, the performance loss for the cost saved was completely justified. It ended up being an amazing performer at 1080p and outperformed the 3080 in certain situations such as COD MW 2019 MP and Warzone. Also by a margin in AC Valhalla. Realistically no GPU can do RT, and DLSS does not equal native resolution. They’re nice tricks but I don’t think they’re game changers. Currently using a 6900 XT that I got for a reasonably good price and the experience is far superior to what I received from the 3080. Just in terms of maximum frame output, GPU utilisation, frame pacing and input lag.

@@imblondu In my currency I paid around £950 for my reference 6900 XT, but an aftermarket 6800 XT is pretty close in MSRP to reference 6900s. I think the AMD cards provide a better gaming experience, and apparently resize bar doesn’t do for Nvidia what it does for AMD. I’ve been able to test it on my old z390 Aorus master that had the bios update so I can definitely vouch for it.
As of 2024, I was able to undervolt my XTX 6800XT Merc Black from 1150mv to 950mv and hit up to 2666MHz without any stability issues by setting the min to 2600 and max to 2700. I'm blown away by how counterintuitive it is that lower voltages give you higher MHz. It's given me a significant boost to FPS in GPU bound scenarios like 4K gaming, but even in CPU bound games that reach really high FPS like OW2 it boosts performance a little more. The only game where lower voltages and higher MHz seems to give me lower performance is in baldurs gate 3 even at 4K in DX11 mode, haven't tried with vulkan.

Hi Fabio, I am your devoted subscriber but I just figured out that, that this video is misleading. Why? Because Adrenaline's voltage slider does not control voltage directly. It just modifies the clock boost table and anything over boost clocks will override voltage to stock to
Yeap, bit that doesn't happen in all cards, even that way, my cards maintains these clocks at a few more than 1v, while the 5700xt needed 1.2v :D Also, the 6700xt works differently. A hug!

@@AncientGameplays Thanks. Actually tried this as I've heard it can help coil whine on my 6800 but in my case it didn't. It's insane. Love your videos man.
Mine is an XT version, but the parameters I did were pretty much the same, lol (mine comes at default with 1150 Mv and clocked at 2461) but as you say, even for the XT, i noticed the sweet spot (performance, consumption and temp wise) is 2400, now mine reached the same frequency as yours (2350 effective max) but using exactly 1000 mv (havent really tried any lower, but it was already starting to drop some clock speed with anything below that so) and i assume it is because of more CUs and what not in the die, needs more juice to keep them going. I never touch power limit, leave it at 0, just a personal choice, your way is just as valid as mine ( I usually leave a notch up the voltage to compensate in case of any spike) as for the ans, i think the XT heats up a bit more, because even with a "bigger" cooler" i set the fans to max 68% (1900ish rpm, they are not very loud at all though, i think my case is not very good for this card either) and i see gaming temps between 65 to 70 while on full load (will need to wait until summer to see how bad it gets then) no cero RPM as I like air circulating into the card regardless of what its doing, lol As I told you on a previous video (did not want to fully spoil you de surprise) this RDNA 2 generation are undervolting kings lol, AMD also did a good job with the reference cooler, to the point I'd say is kind of pointless going for AIBs if your just going to give it a regular use, and drivers so far have been fantastic, even for undervolting or overclocking.
So your card can run 2400 mhz while keep the voltage less than 0.9mV in gaming and benchmarking? That's amazing. On my Nitro+ RX 6800, anything over 2250mhz will bring the voltage more than 1mV under stress, defeating the purpose of undervolt. I see other people claiming they can do 2500mhz while setting the voltage at 900mV, but in gaming their voltage is always greater than 1.025mV, so the voltage setting they did in slide does not work.
Hi my friend, I have overclouded my GPU also but sometimes my fans spin at 1830 RPM. Do I need to make a fancurve or just set fanspeed at 55 like you did? I haven’t seen u make a custom fancurve so I was wandering. Thanks!

Fabio, what exactly is happening with the vram frequency? Why is it always at max? I had this bug with my rx 5700 xt, it was stuck at max memory clocks and it was consuming more power because of that! My vega 56 and my rx 470 didn't do that! I was forced to use my 3k 21:9 monitor on 2560x1080 60hz just to get my rx 5700 xt memory clocks to idle correctly. It went from consuming 30w to 7w on idle. Any solutions for this problem? I want to get the 6800 xt but now that I see that this bug remains it's kinda holding me back....
I had this problem on my RX 580, it only came once I got a 144Hz, I was puzzled aswell, seems RAM would clock down and save power when refresh rate of monitor was 120Hz, obviously not a great solution, so I did some digging and found that you need to create a custom display mode using the Radeon software, just search it, AMD has a guide for it. The importatnt thing is you select CVT under "Timing Standard", that should clock the VRAM down when at desktop and easily save power, I saved 25W using my RX 580.
Ok i watched this just for curiosity sake, but the part where you talk about power limit and how it can increase performance out the bat... i tried it with my 5500 xt and it worked! So freaking happy right now.
Did everything on the video and at first attempt everything seems working fine, with Rainbow Six and COD Modern Warfare 2, but on Atomic Heart, when the game was installing shaders the game went weird and my regulator start making clics, do you know why?, but I elevate the voltage from 900 to 920 just in case
Good tuning Do u think 150w gpu only usage achievable with vanilla 6800?Im considering to buy one next year once prices fall..undervolting will be fun especially i want to use that for my couch tv pc 4k60
Hi Fabio, would love your input on this. I undervolt my card (RX 6800) with the exact same settings as yours, then i tried Unigine Heaven. Then, i saw that the voltage is actually fluctuating, it even touched the default which is 1025. Is this normal? This is my first time undervolting and to me, i feel like the Adrenalin just ignored the setting. Also, i don't know why but the fan went straight to 1600 RPM, even though the temperature is like 45c. Would love your guidance in this, thanks for your time.
Yeah, the voltage has an offset for stability, it depends on the card vbios as well. But the lower the selected voltage, the lower the offset is aswell

@@AncientGameplays No problem, you were very clear and helpful in the video it's just that I'm new to all of this. But hey, worst case scenario if something seems unstable after the changes I make, there is a factory reset option in the Radeon Software that should basically work as a safety net right?
quick question, how come when you start adjusting the gpu voltage it starts at like 768mv on your screen then you hit apply on the 900mv and yours starts saying 850mv+ and doesnt ever go below 800mv again, so isnt that increasing the voltage? it was hovering around 768mv now hovering around 850mv+ does this mean we increased the mv increasing the power consumption or does this somehow mean we decreased power consumption?

Thanks for the helpful video. I will OC my card using your settings as a baseline. I just got a reference 6800xt and I've noticed a couple of times Adrenalin has disabled advanced control fan settings on its own after I have turned them on. Have you experienced this before? I read somewhere to try disabling Windows fast boot to help with this, but I think it's had this behavior even when my PC hasn't been restarted. Any thoughts? Also, I know with some other software I've had in the past when I linked a game's .exe to it it did not always trigger the profile to launch. Is Adrenalin pretty reliable for this or flakey? I would prefer to have the OC profile run only when gaming and not 24/7 since I only game a couple of hours a week. P.s. Have you ever watched Silicon Valley? You kind of remind me of Gilfoyle on that show when your hair is long.
My 6800xt has a mV of 1150 (has 3-8 pin connectors also). It’s made by msi. Should I just leave it as is (it clocks Alamo dead ass at 2400mz in game). I tried doing some custom tuning and it is not happy. Do I just leave this aib card as is and not dick with it?
Not sure what is wrong with my RX 6800? Works perfect when left untouched but the moment you tweak it a bit it starts heving problems causing games to crash or PC just restarting. Even only undervolting causes time spy to crash. Could it be a weak PSU (CM 650 watt gold)? Never had this problem running a watercooled 5700XT with a heavy overclock with the same PSU. Sold my 3080 for cost price to get one of these because it was a better value in my country, hope the choice was good.
3080 is kinda better and you get the rtx and dlss perks from nvidia. I would say no.

Hi Fabio,
I am your devoted subscriber but I just figured out that, that this video is misleading. Why?
Because Adrenaline's voltage slider does not control voltage directly. It just modifies the clock boost table and anything over boost clocks will override voltage to stock to
Yeap, bit that doesn't happen in all cards, even that way, my cards maintains these clocks at a few more than 1v, while the 5700xt needed 1.2v :D

Amazing. Noob question, why do you set the minimum so high, doesn't this mean you won't be allowing the GPU to step down on the desktop/idle?
No, this is just for 3d apps. Also the minimum at high values is usually due to cpu bound scenarios, to not allow the freq to drop

I never touch power limit, leave it at 0, just a personal choice, your way is just as valid as mine ( I usually leave a notch up the voltage to compensate in case of any spike) as for the ans, i think the XT heats up a bit more, because even with a "bigger" cooler" i set the fans to max 68% (1900ish rpm, they are not very loud at all though, i think my case is not very good for this card either) and i see gaming temps between 65 to 70 while on full load (will need to wait until summer to see how bad it gets then) no cero RPM as I like air circulating into the card regardless of what its doing, lol
As I told you on a previous video (did not want to fully spoil you de surprise) this RDNA 2 generation are undervolting kings lol, AMD also did a good job with the reference cooler, to the point I'd say is kind of pointless going for AIBs if your just going to give it a regular use, and drivers so far have been fantastic, even for undervolting or overclocking.
did you apply vram tuning as well?
is it helpful against coil whine?
Can help a bit, but mine has almost no coil whine even at stock

Hi I've got the OC version of this card. Does that mean that I can clock it higher than yours?
Thanks, this was the first vid I watched when my 6800 arrived.
Great to hear haha
So your card can run 2400 mhz while keep the voltage less than 0.9mV in gaming and benchmarking? That's amazing. On my Nitro+ RX 6800, anything over 2250mhz will bring the voltage more than 1mV under stress, defeating the purpose of undervolt. I see other people claiming they can do 2500mhz while setting the voltage at 900mV, but in gaming their voltage is always greater than 1.025mV, so the voltage setting they did in slide does not work.
That's the slider, the real voltage will be different due to the offset
Can you use this settings the whole time or only for a short period
Ofc whole time...

All cards do that now. Amd said it is to assure stability. It does only that at high res and high refresh rate, which is normal
I have a 6800 xt rx can I do the same step as in the video?
Yeah, but you can reach higher frequencies if you want to
I'm actually having a temperature problem at 80 90 degrees

Did everything on the video and at first attempt everything seems working fine, with Rainbow Six and COD Modern Warfare 2, but on Atomic Heart, when the game was installing shaders the game went weird and my regulator start making clics, do you know why?, but I elevate the voltage from 900 to 920 just in case
You did well in raising rhe voltage. Shaders usually push the cpu and ram when loading, not the gpu

Hi Fabio, would love your input on this. I undervolt my card (RX 6800) with the exact same settings as yours, then i tried Unigine Heaven. Then, i saw that the voltage is actually fluctuating, it even touched the default which is 1025. Is this normal? Also, i don't know why but the fan went straight to 1600 RPM, even though the temperature is like 45c. Would love your guidance in this, thanks for your time.
Yeah, the voltage has an offset for stability, it depends on the card vbios as well. But the lower the selected voltage, the lower the offset is aswell

Hey man, listen to what i say in the video. I explain it very easily :D
Because the slider serves as an offset only, being the base voltage established by the frequency you choose

For some reason when I overclock in amd software nothing changes, overclocking only seems to work in msi afterburner. I have tried uninstalling afterburner and still have no luck.
The same numbers applies to 6800XT?
Yes, mlre or less

My 6800xt has a mV of 1150 (has 3-8 pin connectors also). It’s made by msi. Should I just leave it as is (it clocks Alamo dead ass at 2400mz in game). I tried doing some custom tuning and it is not happy. Do I just leave this aib card as is and not dick with it?
You can mess with it
Not sure what is wrong with my RX 6800? Works perfect when left untouched but the moment you tweak it a bit it starts heving problems causing games to crash or PC just restarting. Even only undervolting causes time spy to crash. Could it be a weak PSU (CM 650 watt gold)? Never had this problem running a watercooled 5700XT with a heavy overclock with the same PSU. Asking because I don't want to spend money on a higher wattage PSU just to find out I still have the same problems.
