Hi Robert, thanks for this video which helped fix my broken AC. @11.38 Regarding threading on the new drier, the problem seems to be the big old nut on the top of any new drier is welded on anyoldhow, and being a very coarse thread only fits on the hose one way. By the time its tight the top tube can be anywhere but pointing in the right direction. My drier was original to the car (rusted out) and its seems Volvos solution on the assembly line was to use multiple "O" rings until tightenting up brings the top tube around right. The one supplied with the drier was not enough, I had to add 2 more from my toolbox, total thickness about 5mm. I was a bit nervous about leaks when tightening up and squishing all those "O" rings, but it kept vacuum just fine and I now have nice cold AC (ready for the winter duh). This was a fiddly job which took longer than I expected, not least pushing and wiggling the new drier in limited space to get thet spring clip to snap over the top tube flare.

Do you remember the brand of dryer you used?

"NRF" ? Not a brand I had heard of much before but they seem to be getting more common on Ebay, for instance I replaced the heater matrix (thanks for the video) and it was by NRF too.@@RobertDIY

Did that so long ago but still remember it was a major pain especially with the lovely Chicago winter salt. Hope that solves your ac issues.

@@RobertDIY What!?! How did find that out?

Thomas, my mechanic in Albuquerque help me troubleshoot it. When you accelerate past a certain throttle position the ECU cuts ground to the AC compressor relay and when the throttle position drops it gives it back that ground. So he had me access that relay socket and check for ground there which it had no ground. So I jumped the relay and started the system back up and then it gave me back my ground. 🤷🏾‍♂️

First it was 1 commercial, then there were two. And now we see video's with multiple commercials in it. Where does it stop?

Any part number for the black tool? Diagnosed a bad drier today and luckily you had uploaded this video 3 days ago!

They come in a kit for $12. I think I put a link to the part in the description.

I just replaced my drier, and that big nut connection was locked up. I cut it loose with a hacksaw, and put it in a vise to see if I could break it loose with a monster wrench, and couldn't. Ended up replacing the drier and the hose to it.

Hmmm, I wonder if it's supposed to be stationary? Or does all the moisture and heating and cooling seeds it up?

Nice job, I'm about to do this myself this summer. Did you put pag oil in, or did it come with oil in it already? Or do you leave that for the service?

I leave the oil to the servicer.
