Are Goodwill Bins Really That Gross??

- I spent a bit of time at my all time, favorite thrifting spot, the Goodwill Outlet in Hampton, Virginia, and I wanted to share my experience and finds with you. Also, let's talk about if "the bins" are really as gross as people think they are. And when it comes to thrifting, what are you willing to tolerate in the name of a good deal??

OMG that wool!! So much beauty!
It's incredible!
Oh my goodness I do the same thing grabbing all the good safety pins when I pickup mockups thrifting. Also the stiffeners designers use are spectacular.
Also the ‘High Fashion Fabric’ selvage embroidery is legit. I see it often enough in my couture thrifting.
I'm glad I'm not the only one picking up the weirder things!! I'm happy to see that the couture fabric may be legit. I wish I had the perfect project for it, but unless I figure that out, it'll be on Ko-Fi for someone else to grab.
Can’t watch now because it’s bed time with work in the morning but I’ll be back the second I wake up xx
I am back! As soon as the alarm went off! Some fabulous finds, fun to watch, I also couldn’t carry all my contraband through the hotel! we don’t have the bins in the uk but I think I would go wild xx
If you ever find yourself stateside, it should be on your list of things to do! 🤣
That wool is so pretty!
It really is!! I wish I had a project for it!
Its half an hour to the closest Goodwill, an hour to the closest big Goodwill.... I've yet to drive another half hour to get to the outlet, you're inspiring me to make that trip!
Sounds like you could have a whole Goodwill road trip!! I hope you find amazing things and definitely share!
@@KatieMakesStuff there is a Value Village up near the Goodwill too... I've been there many a time. Value Village is real big here in Washington state.
And VV is also Savers in other regions.
Whoopity whoop your back, Would love a thrift store like that in the Uk. I would be missing for hours!
Love all that fabric yardage, and that last one being wool is amazing such fibrant colours
It's certainly a blessing and a curse. Do I need more fabric and blankets? Absolutely not! Do I burn calories and build muscle thrifting? YES!!
I love the bins-- I go to the one here in Akron sometimes, but it's not the biggest. I went to one in St. Louis once and it was so beautiful-- the second floor of a warehouse that was just WINDOWS the whole way around. Magical smelly thrifting! 😀 It's addicting.
AHHH MAGICAL SMELLY THRIFTING!! I love that 🤣🤣🤣
My mum helps run a thrift store in her local community, has done so for almost 25 years. In the beginning, the donations were stored in a covered section of our yard before it was sorted. We've seen all kinds of things - things easily worth $500+ with the tags still on, a genuine yukata, formal wear, lingerie, used nappies, weed (it's still illegal in my country)...i could never deal with sorting the clothes, I'd get the worst hayfever. But if you sort through the crap you can find some real gold for sure :D
Edit: oh yeah Bhutan sounds amazing! Nice!
I think about having a secondhand arts and crafts store but man the sorting is too much even for me. Maybe it would be better without clothing and furniture, but you just never know!
@@KatieMakesStuff yeah, it's a mammoth effort to get through it all - definitely a team job. Tbh even if you said no clothing and furniture, you'd end up with some donated to you anyway!
Ahhh! Welcome to Hampton, VA!
It's my ALL TIME FAVORITE goodwill!! I dream about it sometimes
@@KatieMakesStuff oh my gosh. I live so close to there! I will have to check it out sometime.
Ok clearly I need to try The Bins, because the Scrap Exchange is local to me but they have lost their damn minds on pricing.
It's hard to go back to regular thrift stores after finding so much good stuff at the bins. Too bad they aren't easier to find for most people.
I'm not in your state...in Or. It's a bit different...I've gone 2 times...I only care about the big bag items....$8.ea. Although, the last time i was there...scarves, brand spanking NEW scarves in one bin!!! Took all I found...I use them in my displays...I was given a heads up on a garage sale...$2.00 for a HUGE box of materials...again, I use on my tables...S C O R E 🎉 WINNER goes to ME!!!! 🍾
Niiiiiiiice!! It's those occasional big scores that keep you going back and hoping to strike gold again!
@@KatieMakesStuff Vintage + thrifting go "hand in hand" as far as I'm concerned!!!! Oregon seriously has TREASURES everywhere...it shocks me everydamntime!!! it's become my MISSION!!!! 💝
That pattern looooks like a LAUREL BURCH rip-off!!! Yikes.
Which pattern? I'll do some research and see what I can figure out 👀👀
@@KatieMakesStuff Hi...that real pretty one you liked!!! with writing on the side..wool??? B.T.W. I loved the throw!!!! I've loved tassels since I was a kid...all blankets deserve them!!!!
@@sharontrujillo I like that-- all blankets DESERVE tassels! 😀
Watching you bring this stuff onto the bed, and touch them to your face...?! 😬🙃🤢
I totally get it! Gross is so subjective and my standards are pretty low.
