The jar, styled with wood around it, looked beautiful with the flowers-because the wood brought out the rich color in center of the flowers. Before you styled them I would’ve said no to the floral.

Laura, you have opened my eyes in the ways that I style my home so much. I live at the beach and I love my very rustic coastal style decor. But you have totally shown me that I can mix other styles in and it looks amazing. Everything in my home is handed down or Thrifted except our mattresses. And if I didn’t thrift the piece I used Thrifted or found materials to build it myself. I never would have thought to pick up that little black dog but I love it and I have added pieces from mid-century to Victorian to modern here and there in my home yet still maintaining that rustic beach cottage look. We moved six months ago into our little forever home, and I just finished decorating it about three weeks ago. I took my time and used all the things that bring me joy. I will always be changing things out and enjoying new pieces and letting other pieces go to their new forever home. I cannot thank you enough for showing me how adding brass or other things I would never have thought to add to my decor, because I thought I didn’t like those type of things, but it makes my rustic wood stand out and seem even warmer somehow. A friend of mine , that I hadn’t seen in years ,and her daughter were vacationing in my area so they came by for a visit . Her daughter, who was four the last time I saw them is now a photographer and asked if she could photograph my home for a spread she has been thinking of putting together on California Coastal homes. I literally laughed out loud because I have seen the spreads that she does and they are not of homes full of Thrifted and handmade items. She said that is exactly why she wanted to photograph my home, because she has been wanting to do a piece on how to decorate beautifully without spending a fortune🤯🤭Everything is still in the planning stages but just being asked was so thrilling and such a huge compliment. This NEVER would have happened without you inspiring me to try something new 😁❤️

About 13 minutes in - Laura, I hope that the idea you released into the Universe, about the 1970's Mikasa Dahlia set, comes to fruition! You deserve to have your name out there as the incredible stylist that you are! Any TV or movie set would be lucky to tap your talents! I look forward to seeing your name in the credits! Then, I can tell everyone that, "Hey, I know that girl!" So, here I am, adding my positive energy to yours as your ideas seek their home amongst the ☆stars☆

Disillusionment warning : I once talked to a woman in a thrift store who was a “picker”/ “prop sourcer” for movies and tv , and I told her I thought that would be such a fun job. She said it is …except when you need to find 70s and all you find is 90s…😮. Maybe the way around that is to buy everything from every era!😁

I LOVE that you got that full green Mikasa set, even if it was pricey when it was all added up. You did the vintage community a service! If that was left at goodwill, a piece would have been picked up here and there and the entire set would have been separated and never reunited. Even if your profit isn't great, you did a wonderful job for the preservation of vintage so that it can be cherished as it should have been and eventually become an antique!

  • @terrytt2932
    @terrytt2932 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +53

As a potter, I must warn you about crazing. It is actually a 'break' in the glaze. If you put wet food, greasy food (i.e., dips) in the serving pieces, it will seep into the piece and stain. You need to be careful with crazed pieces
The FABULOUS fabric window coverings are custom so yes, handmade, not "homemade".
    LOVE today's finds!!
edit - I think the flowers on the pretty pedestal jar is a decal or transfer. If you scrub or use a chemical to remove it, it could damage the surface.

Hey Laura, I think you should keep the flowers on the apothecary jar. There is something special about keeping an object as is, even if it is not your aesthetic. Preserving an object so it can be enjoyed and admired by future owners who may love the flowers. You can enjoy it as a plain jar, just by turning it around like you did in your video.

The bowl 7:59-8.40 is by famous Russian porcelain and majolika factory founded in year 1809. The marking you have on your bowl they started putting in 1974. It symbolizes the branch of a spruce tree. The name of the factory is Konakovo. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw you finding it at Goodwill. Had to watch three times😁. I'm from Victoria (Australia). I've just come across your channel and have binge-watched your videos going back several years. I used to go on "op-shop crawls" with my friends (an "op-shop", short for 'Opportunity Shop" is what we call thrift stores here). And the use of the word "crawl" is usually used in the context of "going on a pub crawl" which means spending the day driving from bar to bar with friends (never of any interest to me!) Your videos inspired me to go op-shopping by myself this afternoon. I collect Mid-Century fine china (and crystal) as well as handcrafted pottery. I also keep an eye out for craft resources too. I hit 4 local stores today and 3 of them had a 50% off everything sale, due to the End-of-Financial-Year (Australia's EOFY is on 30th June). I've bought some beautiful china as well as hand-crafted items for so little, it's ridiculous! E.g., I bought a large Alfred Meakin Fine Bone China lidded vegetable serving dish for 7.50 AUD (4.98 USD), a lathed wooden salad bowl with matching salad servers for $3 AUD (1.98 USD) that looks like it's never been used and a handcrafted pottery platter decorated with abstract magnolias (so beautiful it could be hung as wall-art) for $1 AU (66 cents in USD). It seems to have had a paper ID on the back which has been removed, so I'll try to find another online.) I really enjoyed myself; thanks for inspiring me to get back into "op-shopping"! I'm going to hit the Salvo's Op Shop -plus some others - tomorrow!

16:35 at first glance that print/painting subject "Turf Schip" (a peat moss boat) looked 🇳🇱Dutch to me. Because our 3 Northern Provinces of Friesland, Gronigingen and Drenthe also had bog-peat moss grounds and trade-shipping of peat. How wonderful the previous owner put a name to it. Now we know it's a peet boat that has been captured on the small river Hamme in North Germany, in the state of Lower Saxony, between the Hansiatic Cities of Bremen and Hamburg in Germany 🇩🇪. 👌🏻☺️

Apothecary Jar: I love both. Depending on what you’re displaying it with, both ways would work. Just put the flower in the back when you don’t want to use it. 😊

Those 2 art glass amoebic bowls
_ashtrays in blue and green are Canadian Chalet Art Glass.
Practically Murano glass because innitiators of the studio were brothers Tedesco from Venetian glassworks.
It all started in early 50s
    😊
Looks like the other pieces could be Chalet glass as well..Especially that basket shaped vase.
I'm Canadian and had .bowls ashtrays and vase baskets like those in amber....citrine...forest green.
    .and fiery red.

Well..they are made by people from Murano !!!! Using identical glassmaking techniques as any other Italian Murano art glass
      Only made in Canads.❤
There used to be a gallery of Chalet Art Glass in.-Vancou er. 26:35
I have found a twin to my deltoid Chalet bowl with iridescent pink edge.
Sold on Ebay for over $300 😊😊😊😊😊

Glass pickups at 22:55 are giving me CHALET GLASS FROM CANADA Vibes, esp the bases; really high-quality mid-century Art Glass line, Made in Canada, designed by Italian Glass masters employed by the Chalet Glass factory in Canada...it is great stuff in its own right, and gets mis-attributed all the time. Great shopping trip! I am having a blast riding along ! Thank you! ❤

Ok so I absolutely loved the opaque jar in white I thought it was stunning. When you turned it around and I saw the enamel flowers my heart fell No you can’t remove enamel but if it’s just hand painted you can. When you styled it just in its own glory no flowers I thought it was simply elegant but when you turned the flower side around I was shocked to discover it in all its glory. It made the vignette to be honest. It looks elegant , natural, and absolutely bounced of the screen. So yes Laura you made this minimalist non fussy glass obsessed girl fall in love with fussy flowers lol. Well done 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. I am now team flowers😂

There must be a film industry association you could contact. Lots of films made in British Columbia. Set designers would love the Dahlia print Mikala. When I was in Montreal there was a vintage store where I bought some jewelry and the woman who owned it was a set designer and grabbed the vintage stuff they get rid of once the film is done. So much potential there!

Hi Laura. I've been enjoying your travels and picking. Keep doing! I'm sure you realize your shirt has words all over it. I've been trying to make it out, but there's too much movement to decipher your "tilt-to -read" shirt pattern. Great find to wear! Keep Doing! The blue glass that you put back possibly was a pair of lovers by Murano Glass Master Roberto Beltrami. I've seen it selling for around 1500.00. From Bath Township, Ohio
