    I hated you for not playing Round and Round's solo, but your impro was killer! And the tone is quite accurate. Bravo.

    I can’t believe you started with the hunter solo! That solo to this day gives me chills and at times even brings a tear to my eye. It is very meaningful to me; I worshiped Lynch! Most importantly thank you for playing it exactly the way it should have been. You even got the tone dead on. You’re a great player! 🤘🏽🙏🏽

      Ah thanks Ali! Thats so much appreciated man! 😊 🙏 You know, until I did the Lynch Lycks videos for the song, I didn't really get into it! I know - crazy right! Then I played it and I was totally hooked! Solo became one of my faves 😊 So glad you dig it! Have an amazing day!!!

    Ah, the 80's.... The decade which gave birth to all our heroes. I would love to noodle around with that pedal with my Wolfgang & see how close we can get to nail EVHs sound 😀👍. Lynchs The Hunter solo was spot on, Nice. Do a video with a Randy Rhoads tone. I know a lot has to do with the attack and feel to get the tones, but it's fun to do anyway. Great video brother. I wish I had all your toys. I'd never leave the house!! Have a great weekend. I'm celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary on Sunday, so the weekend will be special here. (52 isn't that old either! Hey dude, I'm doing good 😊 Yourself? Ah excellent - that should work well for an 80s tribute. Another one to consider is the JHS And Timmons pedal - man, that one is a beast as well! Thicker tone, more old school modded Marshall. The Friedman is more of a modern take, a little more compressed and smooth 😊 Enjoy and have an amazing day!!!

    Just bought the damned pedal this morning and I haven't been able to stop playing... IT IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! The best pedal ever built. Thanks for making me buy this amazing pedal Jay , it has everything I want in a guitar sound and more !! I actually use it with my JCM 900 2100 which hasn't a clean channel so I use it in the return of the effects loop and it just sounds amazing , gives me a more versatile Marshall tone, more gain and the tight knob is a great feature especially for dialing in the perfect 'palm mute' tone !

    • @fuheroes
      @fuheroes 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have experimented and put the Friedman in front of my 'dirty' 900 and you can get some more amazing sonic variations by tweaking less gain on the Marshall and more on the Friedman , or vice versa. The Friedman is so Marshall like in it's tone that it is almost impossible to distinguish it's advantage is you can get higher gain settings ( useful for lower vol settings) low volume and of course more tonal versatility . Have a great weekend Jay

      Hey Paul, I know right! Had to learn everything by ear - pick up copies of Guitarist and Guitar For The Practicing Musician once an month and hope there was some TAB in there that we wanted to play! Those were the days! Pickguards I make myself. Hope that helps. Have an amazing day!

    • @rokinrandy

      Jay Parmar Im assuming that pick guard took some time.
      I remember jamming the vinyl out of the cellar on a tube driven turn table/8 track player. The guitar tones always sounded boxy like good combo amps. Listen to it and think about it when you hear it again. Tell me what you think. But I read that they used 100 watt Marshall’s.
      The lay it down tracks and all don’t have that sound. Solos are more like a stack. I seen them here in Fayetteville and Bon Jovi opened up for Ratt on the invasion tour . 84 or 85 I was like 14.
      people loved Ratt so much nobody cared about Bon Jovi. And the bleachers caved in for the encore of Ratt. Ambulance had to rush people off. But They had a lot of laney cabinets on stage That night, So idk.
      I just used boss pedals and digitech gsp stuff in the 80s used invasions right between the eyes to set the delay. Got pretty close. Did the same sounds for Dokken and White Lion. Some said sounded just like it. Ehh . Ok. It worked. That was the sauce. .
      Treated the mp-1 the same way. Gain up to 11 add a boost and some delay. Pinch harmonics. Boom But the ADA MP1 cleaned up better like warren D did on lay it down. And probably like that pedal can do I’m assuming.
      Gfpm magazines were the real teacher. Andy aledort and wolf Marshall lol. I did learn realing in the years by steely dan because of gfpm. As a young metal head I had no idea what the hell I was learning on those (what I considered) obscure tabs lol. There were just no other tabs lol. Peace ✌️

      @@rokinrandy Very very cool 😊 Those were the days - good memories from those hours of reading the mags, practicing and working out the parts 😊
      Pickguard is relatively quick to do. Takes a couple of days to dry properly so that the snakeskin is bonded properly but otherwise pretty straight forward. I offer it as a service as well via my website - www.spiritdanceguitars.com. Thanks and have an awesome weekend.

    Spot on with the Lynch tone, but that's not surprising considering your affinity for GL. ;) (just giving props on that one in particular). The Nuno tone is also very good, sounds almost identical to the original Decadence Dance.
    I do have a question, how much of these tones are specific to that Friedman pedal and how much is also dependent upon other gear, pedals, effects that you are using?

    • @jayguitar
      @jayguitar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much dude! Much much appreciated :) Everything works in combination but the Friedman is a huge part of the sound for sure - I set my amp up clean and go into it with the Friedman handing all of the drive. I find that the cab selection is very very important as well though - this really shapes the sound for me, especially when using cab IRs like I am doing here - you can check out the full setup of which ones I use on this video - th-cam.com/video/Bf7datORaqs/w-d-xo.html - Hope that helps! Hey Jay, tune into your videos often and thought I would ask question about Friedman setup or any std dist/od pedal. I have the friedman pedal and its great. quest 1- for playing live do you plug that pedal or any overdrive dist into the effects loop? or in front of the amp? 2nd question I have a small Marshall DSL40 2 channel amp clean/dirty . if not in the effects loop do you engage the pedal on the clean channel to create dist sound or do most use the overdrive channel to enhance even more? Trying to get that 80ish tone and I know alot of players from that time used the boss distortion, but not sure if they used in effect loop, on clean channel or on the dirty channel. Thanks for the input

    • @jayguitar
      @jayguitar  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude, thats a great Q - I always run it into the front end of a clean amp - I prefer to do it this was as the tone and drive is all coming from the pedal rather then 50/50 amp and pedal. It can be run into a driven channel for more drive, but as the pedal has so much drive anyway, I personally don't feel the need to do that. Hope that helps - you can check out my full setup on this video - th-cam.com/video/Bf7datORaqs/w-d-xo.html - enjoy and have an amazing day! :)

      Very cool that you got one! 😃 Are you running it into an overdriven channel or a clean channel? Through a clean channel it shouldn't feedback too much. @jayguitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah cool! I know what it is - I have a Code 25 amp also 😊 because the Code amp is a software based amp, it does feedback pretty badly if the noise gate on the actual amp isn't switched on. That caught me off guard when I tried the amp for the first time. Its one of the only things that I don't like about the Code amps. I just tried it with mine and with a clean channel turned the gate on the amp up to 8 and it stopped the feedback (even with the amp's volume at max). The Sentry is awesome. It really sounds great which is why I bought it. I have to say haven't used it much. Tried it once and found it to be really noisy on my Blues Jr. Maybe not the amp for it? Any thoughts...

    • @jayguitar
      @jayguitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very very cool! 😊 glad you have one! The noise issue might be related to the amount of gain being used. Are you running it into a completely clean channel? Might be worth turning the internal trim pot inside the pedal down to see if that helps. Also, how are you powering the pedal? I use a batter pack 99.9% of the time and it keeps things really quiet, which I like. The power supply can introduce some noise as well so if you have another one you can try out it might be worth checking that out, The pedal can get noisy at high gain levels - mine does too - but most high gain pedals will do that 😊 Hope that helps. Have an amazing day!
