It is funny how it practically fell under the radar in 1985. It was never released on a U.S. album. It appeared on Desperately Seeking Susan. For whatever reason making it ineligible for the Billboard ratings. She played it at Live-Aid on July 13, but it was "officially" released on July 15...and in my opinion this is her BEST song! Thankfully radio was so important back then and this gem got plenty of air time.

Was in high school when this premiered in my town to a packed audience, everyone was SO intrigued by Madonna then, even some of our teachers showed up. I don't think The Kids Today can appreciate what a fresh new sensation she was when she emerged to rule the world. I love this video with her best bits because back then, all we wanted to do was look at her. And let's face it, besides that, the movie was so-so. I like this much better than the official video trying to sell the movie with lots of Rosanna and silly goofy bits. No one cares, we wanted Madonna.
And the movie was one of faves too , Madonna just made it awesome!

Exactly. This was when she was married and made simple dance bops. Then she started expressing herself and being more artistic...and also was single. She sacrificed a lot of fans in the process but remained true to herself and her beliefs; commercial success be damned. Madonna addressed this in her Billboard Woman of the Year speech. That's a trailblazer. She may not benefit herself, but all who followed did benefit from her bravery and constant courage to challenge the system and stand up for what's right.

The first part of your statement was fine...the 2nd half was complete rubbish that will always look good on paper, but not in the face of reality. She was anything, but true to herself (adopting a British accent?). She re-invented herself so often...problem was there was such a drop-off in musical talent (understandable, because someone's prime isn't forever). Courage? Yeah, when you are a superstar and everyone is running to kiss your ass, I don't think that takes courage. Courage was Madonna in 1984 at the MTV Awards performing Like A Virgin...THAT took guts. Everything after 1985 was EASY.
