    Dear Irene,
Dear Irene - You once inspired a lonely girl with dreams of passion when she needed them most, and I'll never forget that. Whatever dreams I carve in this world made of stone - whatever souls I inspire - are due in part to those dark, lonely days your voice inspired me to dream of better days. So many of us were dancing for our lives, in one way or another, reaching for that feeling. You helped us make it. Thank you.

I had the fortune of meeting Ms. Irene Cara a few decades ago and she was a very nice and down to earth person who shared a cautionary tale of how her record company stole her money and blackballed her from the music industry. The very song in this music video made millions of dollars and she didn't see any of it until after 10 years of legal battles after the song was released. Fortunately, she won her case. However, it caused this very talented artist to choose a different path than that of the pop star that she was becoming. R.I.P.

Flashdance is a brilliant cinematic event. It managed to take a plot about a romance and an ambitious desire against the odds, that leaves some of its questions unanswered, and turn it into a sensation and blockbuster. The dance scenes are iconic to this day. This movie redefined 'high-art' dance styles to incorporate breakdancing alongside ballet. Irene Cara's vocal talent and the triumphal energy in the song contributed greatly to the movie's success. The song was released as a single that remained at the top of the charts in many countries for some weeks, and the movie was a smash-hit blockbuster everywhere. It was, and still is, a remarkable achievement of movie-making and has inspired numerous other dance-themed struggle-against-the-odds movies.
