    for me bad trips are just amplified anxiety and a deep uncomfortably radiating from the core of my being as if there is a predator looming to pounce on me at any moment. I've come to realize these are just more intense externalizations of my issues with GAD, and it helped cement the idea that "bad trips" are mostly just the unconscious elements of ones psyche bubbling to the surface to say hello.

    When Terence spoke about how gentle psilocybin can be to beginners it reminded me of my first time. Had just got my hands on atlantis truffles and took a small to medium dosage and I just went in complete naive and was greeted with warmth and amazement. It felt like 5 hours of pure love and understanding, expanding the view of internal and external, some kind of personal enlightenment that is hard to put into words.

      Yeah my first time I grew some B+ BRF in a shotgun fruiting chamber took 49+ fresh wet grams and had an amazing time in my room with amazing closed eye visuals syncing to whatever music I was listening to. During lateralus a song by tool I literally saw a color changing grid flashing while my eyes were closed I felt very connected to life and at peace. Later in the trip I was done with the music and just lay there unforcefully meditating and saw these neon and pastel colored native type God like figures staring down at me like they were trying to teach me something but it literally scared the fucking shit out of me and broke my meditation lol. It didn't ruin that trip though. Unfortunately because I grew them myself and I had such an amazing time, I didn't the rest to go bad so a day or two later I tripped again because I was so curious about this is new world I was voyaging into. But shitballs it was wrong decision and now tripping is always overwhelming for me and I dont know how to incorporate the teachings into this weird world of the U.S.A

    I’ve learned to treat every trip as if it’s my first time no matter the dose. I can’t count how many times in my naïveté I’ve thought to myself “I’ve tripped before I know what to expect from this dose” only to later go “HOLY SHIT JESUS CHRIST WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!?” Terrence was spot on when he said shrooms are usually very gentle with beginners if they approach it with respect. It’s the experienced trippers that get cocky that get their asses kicked.

      I might be lucky because i feel like i'm unable to get cocky with those stuff. I always do everything by the book and am always anxious and scared before taking them, just breathing deep, trying dancing and breathing, going with the flow until i settle into a stable state which is just about when the gut discomfort and nausea wear off. Never had a bad trip. But these beginnings when i have nausea end stomachal discomfort lead to some bad thoughts that i need to just deliver myself and wait it out and i go through it landing in a good stable and marvelous side

    One of the most powerful experiences came when I started feeling a bad come up. I was on 3g of some solid shrooms and my last trip was pretty nasty and I felt the same anxiety creeping up so I remembered what Terence said about singing. With no other idea I just sang the first thing that came to mind and I slowly started feeling relief and a lightness coming out of my chest in stead of being dragged down. Coming up through singing, even if it's just vocalization or improvisation is one of the most blessed states I'd ever been in on any substance and it made the following experience the most loving and nurturing trips I had ever had. Proof enough of a saying in my country that goes "One who sings has no ill thoughts" and I haven't failed to sing every time I've tripped afterwards.

    I am super grateful of one particular bad trip I had. I did have some "bad trips" with Salvia before but nothing like the one that I still remember so vividly. Since then I have never had a bad trip again and have always had amazing experiences with Psychedelics but that particular "bad trip" was incredibly life changing.
    As a short example... I would experience multiple death scenarios (possibly 1000s that felt incredibly real, it was so confusing to me) and I would freak out that each time I died I wouldn't be able to get back to my original life. After all the death scenarios I met a blue being that was me but also everyone / the Universe and I was standing on a blue line and could see the Universe below me, I could see planets and galaxies and was told by the blue being that this happens to me in every incarnation and I would always freak out because I would forget I was the Universe lol
    So much happened in that "bad trip", just thought I'd give a quick example of what happened, it felt like I was gone for years haha
    I truly believe in reincarnation after that trip.

    • @DaZeDmerlin

      @@stefanlouw6395 I think I understand. I got two messages that changed me. And a bad trip truly worthy of the term, probably more a psychotic break, that got me off psychedelics for 4 years, except for DMT.
      Both happened about ten years ago.
      One time I experienced ego death and entered a realm that felt so ancient, and I knew right away that I was home again. I forgot about that place from the day I was born and I knew I will come back over and over again. I’ve been there what felt like, thousands of times. It was home.
      After that I became interested in Buddhism. (It made me understand Samsara)
      A second time I experienced how everything is an illusion and could clearly see that everything is connected and truly one. I also realized that no one really knows this and we’re all creating this illusion of separation. I understood that everything comes from one core intelligence, divided over countless forms, unknowingly connected.
      That got me interested in Hinduism. (That made me understand Advaita Vedanta)
      But I also know that devoted meditation, brain tumors, mystical experiences, etc can give that exact experience.
      Does it mean it’s the answer?
      That reincarnation is real and we can liberate ourselves from the circle of rebirth through enlightenment?
      I don’t know. It’s what my brain tells me, but that doesn’t prove it’s validity.
      It’s an experience a lot of people share through different means, religion is built upon such experiences. We try to explain the ineffable, but we don’t even understand it.
      I don’t feel the need to trip really hard anymore, but I still trip a few times a year to try and heal my soul, (normal doses, strong but not ego death strong), I believe in the medicinal benefits, but those deep experiences, I don’t need anymore.
      Not for now at least.

      @@DaZeDmerlin wow man thank you so much for sharing such an in depth and personal story. that was incredible to read.
      Ive got a few questions:
      You said you carried on with DMT? Don’t you find DMT too heavy? Ive never done DMT but I have done Ayahuasca once.
      Another thing, I was brought up in Christianity. I’m not practicing. Strayed from that path long ago BUT my trips are always very heaven and hell. And when I say always I mean in the strong doses. It always takes me to a kind of “hell” realm. Not sure what the experience is trying to tell me by doin that.
      All I can say is that my last trip scared me so much that Im actually partially convinced that psychedelics open you up to evil spirits/ hell realms. I don’t know.
      I also don’t want to jump to quick conclusions because I know how our minds just want to make sense of things by rationalizing everything.
      Anyway thanks for listening 🙏🏻

    • @DaZeDmerlin
      @DaZeDmerlin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@stefanlouw6395 You’re welcome, I’m glad you could get something out of it.
      We share some similarities.
      I also did Ayahuasca once, and it was a rich and soothing experience, but I feel like the dose was too small, no purging, but the experience was beautiful.
      As for DMT, I have trouble smoking it right. (And I’ve been trying just about everything) I eventually bought a Glass Vapor Genie, which is a perfect way to inhale a very smooth vapor. But I just can’t hold it in well enough.
      With DMT it’s important to get a good hit, preferably all at once, and hold it for about 20 seconds, but my lungs fail on me, and I almost never break through. I don’t think I ever have completely.
      It’s always a warm and beautiful experience, but almost never rough, or deep. I had many people break through, but I’m not cut out for it. So DMT was still safe and predictable for me, it never scared me. (I respect it, and know it should scare me, but it was always rather mild for me). Even 100mg, it would blast me off if I could hold that in for sure, but when I try it in 3 hits, like many suggest, it just keeps me in this realm, the visuals get very strong, but I’m not going anywhere.
      I was also raised Christian, and when that darkness comes when the trip becomes really intense and thing go wrong, I also associate it with hell, and feel a dark force trying to take me to that void, resembling hell.
      I also saw a friend morph into the devil, he looked basically the same, but his eyes and facial expression showed me true evil, I was convinced he was in fact the devil himself trying to murder me.
      We were at a party and I took two tabs and I was with people i didn’t know that well. Set and setting are so important, but setting to me is crucial. A rough trip in the comfort of your home is better than at some party with people you don’t really know enough.
      I quickly walked away telling him to leave me alone, scared shitless, and was eventually convinced I was already killed but my spirit was still wandering around to experience the moment of my demise before it could pass on.
      I saw blood gushing out of stab wounds that weren’t there. Every footstep was my killer. It was my personal hell on earth.
      That was the trip that stopped me from taking psychedelics for a few years.
      As for the Christian thematics. I assume it’s all indoctrination. We mirror what we were brought up with.
      Good and evil, heaven and hell.
      They are concepts that make sense to describe what’s happening to us, but in the religious sense, I don’t feel like it has any value.
      There’s nothing wrong with doses that are manageable, you can still get a lot out of them.
      Perhaps in time you will learn to work with psychedelics again. But really, finding your path sober is probably much more rewarding.

      Done it. Massive doses, up to a point, can easily be handled, it just requires repeated experience at those levels to become comfortable with it. At anything remotely close to thumb print levels, forget about, but I've easily managed 14 hits of strong blotter. The Pranksters lived by this approach, of learning to be comfortable at extreme high doses.

    Psilocybin wasn't terribly gentle with me as a beginner haha, it kicked my arse in an immediate and shocking way and the takeaway was, to my mind; "there's nothing here for you, you don't even know yourself". 16 years later, we had a chance reunion and it was magical in all the ways I'd wanted it to be as a young 20-something, who had lacked the capacity to even begin to listen to what the mushroom had to say.

    I feel like bad trips are brought on by refusing to let the ego die;
    When people try to fight that, and let their ‘egos’ remain in control, it brings intense anxiety….
    The ‘bad’ ones always turn out to be the most meaningful in my opinion;
    And when I say bad, I only mean the moments that were a little or a lot more intense than is comfortable, which never lasts the whole trip;
    Music is a good way to ride the wave rather than being consumed by the wave

    Sometimes it can amplify my anxiety so hard there's this strange place where I feel like if I go there I'm going to be finished, I'll be insane. Other than my first mush trip I cant seem to let go and experience ego death my resistance and fear of going insane from letting go is actually probably exactly what shoots my anxiety through the roof. So I've learned I can only trip once I have financial stability or my main loved ones have died, because I go through the death of loved ones as though they actually died every time.

    • @queenieqt2033

    I was the clueless first timer that took too much and they were not gentle. It’s took me 20 years to unpack it all and only after a dmt hit can i truly understand it. All paths lead to the same place, just different scenery. Mushrooms were a very “earthy” path. I felt deeply immersed in the earth. I was in a tower, infinitely tall filled with chimeric entities all yelling about me being there. Floating with me through the whole experience, a solitary fractal “elf” that said nothing. It only observed. I wish i could have that experience again but with the experience and what little knowledge i have now. I can’t even microdose mushrooms now, the ego death instilled such a deep fear.

    When I was 16 a junior in high school and very new to LSD, I had tickets to see Frank Zappa and the mothers of invention.
    It turns out we went into the Holiday Inn to use the bathroom before we went to the Civic Center where they were performing. On the way out, who comes walking in the front door but Frank and his bodyguard after his ordeal in London where he got pushed into the orchestral pit in the dark my son, jealous guy and he was on a wheelchair for a year. Anyway, during the concert the mothers were playing what I would consider monster music, they were all over the place and it was wonderful but at the same time it scared the shit out of me. The curtains behind the band were moving and yet they were not moving and then out of nowhere just spout out don’t do drugs. They’re bad for you and it gave me some food for thought Anyway, the lights went on for intermission and we moved up into the nosebleed section because we didn’t want to be so close. I just thought it would be better. I was starting to feel better so the band came back out and started jamming and my other friend who participated with me, decided that he was gonna have a bad tripand so we missed the rest of the concert and that’s my story. Interestingly enough it was in Frank’s hometown Baltimore and we went into the Holiday Inn and anybody who knows anything about Frank knows that Holiday Inn are important in his repertoire peace out🎉.

    Bad trips often teach you something. Like to be humble and not assume you can take an overly large dose of a new plant or substance based on prior experience with unrelated plants or substances, shirking all notions of shamanic tradition and coming at it like an arrogant thrill-seeking consumerist. Not that I have done that or anything, but hypothetically if I did I bet the plant would put me in my place.

    Had a bummer on shrooms once - just this overwhelming feeling of something evil. I got rid of it by playing Bob Marley's One Love and with a set of rosary beads! but later on (like way after the trip ended) it sort of came back and made me think lots of gifts I had been given were evil, and to my eternal regret I threw them out. I understand now more what it was that i perceived, but that doesn't bring my stuff back so it's still a bummer. It was a paradoxical future loop to a worse future. I still don't know the cause though.

    When I spot someone who is having a rough patch from a choice of mistaking going a step to far with something... I sit down & explain that the panic attack is going to be worse & take as long or longer than the high, & higher state of mind your in now for fear of finding yourself at that point now... If you panic you have to deal with that as well, so deal with yourself & the drug. Don't panic because that will be & is a bad trip of its own right & equally as confusing for being an experience itself... Panic attacks & migraines are experiences that bad drugs to take or abuse will be similar for experiencing as effects. So I let others know when I can sense or spot a bad or rough patch for being to high... Not to let go of it being a rough patch to work thru quicker to pass, than let it ride out & roll u over into panic... mostly people have welcomed the intervention & advice. They instantly begin to think about their breathing & begin to slow that & themselves down without having to point it out to do. I think it helps for knowing panic & the high as separate things... It's also why some minds won't work well for want to be high. They aren't comfortable for being of it... or out of it. Lol

    You must take this path slow. You simply cannot jump headfirst into a barrel of LSD or chow down a field of mushrooms. These things won't sugar code. If you know yourself you'll know what pace to go at but it will always be a slow one. If you want to "dive right in" try starting with a tab of acid or 3 grams of mushrooms, it will feel like diving in without losing your mind. This stuff is more powerful than you can possibly imagine

    Four of us took a bad trip once, sitting there gripping the table unable to even walk, I describe it as having your brain taken out of your head, strapped to a plank of wood then thrown into the ocean during a tropical cyclone, hell of a ride not pleasant, but funny thing is I realised a friend had taken one and gone to play a football match, somehow and way too late I got to his place to warn him and found him huddled in the shower and his mrs not real happy, it hit him during the game and he apparently just ran off the field mid game, through the crowd and into the car park and drove off and she found him curled up in the shower..ahhh so funny

    Dextrose is a good dopamine booster in a bad trip situation. Combined with chocolate or a dose of cocoa will be more effective. Anyway, a bad trip will expose parts of your unconscious that aren’t in order and need healing. Investigating will be a second choice. I usually say in that situation: “Forgive my ignorance and please help me.” You will be surprised what “letting go” mean when you surrender…

They show you the bare-naked truth no coddling no sugar-coating this is why one ego death is on par with 25 years of psychotherapy. You unravel completely it's like losing everything and then being reborn without all the burdens of your past life. You work out all your shit, all your clutter. It's like your brain is a computer that's been running for a few years and has files all over the place, and psychedelics are a defragmentation program that straightens all the files out.
