In the first movie, Po's father being a goose was just a minor gag that the writers came up with for fun, but then the sequels turned it into one of the most tragic yet uplifting and beautiful stories in animation history.

Kinda late here but I think it's a cool fact: Tigress came from a orphanage where every one feared her for her tiger strength, until Shifu adopted her and tought her how to control her strength. This actually explains why she sympathises so much with Po wanting to know about his real parents.

My only quibble there would be the use of "real" parents. Speaking as an adopted person, the people who loved you and raised you are your real parents. The people who physically produced you are your biological parents. I'm not trying to be argumentative, mind you; just informative. 🙂

It's amazing how this movie can make a peacock of all animals so scary. I've always considered Lord Shen the closest thing DreamWorks has to Scar, Disney's best villain. He's cold, calculating, his past directly ties in with the protagonist's, and there's so much depth to his character, plus Gary Oldman's performance is impeccable. I also love Po's struggle to find his true self and inner peace, and that "Po Finds the Truth" sequence in the panda village is so beautiful, yet so heartbreaking.

I read that Shen actually didn't want to take over China and knew that it wouldn't bring him happiness or satisfaction but at that point, he had committed so much atrocities that he felt as though he had to finish what he started. When he closed his eyes in the end, he pretty much was welcoming death.

1.I'm enough of a man to admit that the sequence where he overcomes his trauma and remembers the sacrifice his mother made for him, still makes me tear up a bit.
    2. Shen is a fantastic villain . The fact that he commits so many atrocities and yet the movie is still able to make you feel a tinge of pity for him. He wants to conquer China not because he thinks it will make him happy, but rather because he's in so deep that there's just no point in turning back.
    3. Friendly reminder that this kids' movie covered dealing with trauma, self hate and atrocities like literal genocide with more maturity than like half the rated R movies out there lol.

The third point though. I think most studios overlook the fact that there are kids out there that have experienced genocide. And to teach other kids what it does to people and how this evil of a thing affects families is important. It teaches them empathy. They often get too scared it'll be too dark but then it gets forgettable

This movie is incredibly special for me. I saw it early on a Saturday morning and the only other people in the theater were a little boy (probably around 5 years old) and his mom. During the sequence where Po is remembering his mom I just happened to turn to see the little boy tears in his eyes look up at his mom and give her the biggest hug you could imagine. It sticks with me because that's how powerful animation is and why I'm always trying to keep my standards for animated movies high.

It took me a long time to understand why I loved this movie so much. As an adopted person it resonated with me but as I got older the feelings of abandonment took over until I learned why I was given up. So little dialogue in such a short scene, but it says so much and shows a brief, remorseful side to Shen before he finally succumbs to his madness, realizing he's past the point of no return, and that there is no way he can get out of this after all that he's done to end up in the situation in the first place

I think this movie has the best villain, but the last movie has the most heart in my opinion.
I was adopted from a young age so i know what its like to be raised by people who don't look like me. This movie and trilogy not only gave me more respect towards my parents, but also to my birth mom who couldn't raise me (why she put me up for adoption). I never met her but i knew that she respected and loved me enough to to allow me to live the life she wanted me to have. I'm not even 10 minutes into this reaction and it's already bringing me back to how much this movie made me think about my journey to where i am (when i saw this). This trilogy and the story of found family rivals the guardians of the galaxy and is the perfect story for kids to grow up with.
Ended up going on a little tangent but with all that said, Coy, have a great time out of the county! Greg, keep being the best at what you do. Love your reactions and post reaction talks, cant wait for the final reaction!!

One of the reasons I really love Shen as a villain is because of his ending. Faced with defeat at the hands of a righteous protagonist, a lot of movies like this would try and have Shen become a better person or be redeemed, but I appreciate that he actively chooses to continue being evil at the end. It ended up being his ultimate undoing, but he made the conscious decision to walk down that path.

From what I’ve heard, this film was pretty controversial when it came out, as many people thought it was too dark and violent for a kids film. That might help explain the lower ratings from the first film. I completely agree with you guys though that it’s much better

Fun fact: The movie's creative team travelled all the way to The Giant Panda Breeding and Research Base in a place called Chengdu, of Sichuan province, China(PR) to study the behaviour of panda cubs for inspiration to create those cute and memorable scenes featuring Baby Po.

One of my favorite iconic, inspiring quotes that means a lot to me is: "Your story may not have such a happy beginning, but that doesn't make you who you are. It is the rest of your story, who you choose to be". Especially for being in Therapy, for 3-4 years. Trying to heal and recover 🌈🌠⭐️🌟

This entire movie is just a masterpiece. :D I gotta say, what I always found the most interesting was Shen’s relationship with the soothsayer. You can feel something there, some kind of history, a sense of him caring about her that Shen can’t seem to shake despite everything, and that she still cares about him despite helping to bring about his end. He’s so harsh with his followers, but he lets her get away with things he’d absolutely knife one of the wolves for, like eating his robes. And in the end, he lets her go, when he absolutely could have killed her instead, and it probably would have even made more sense from his perspective to do so, since she ended up giving Po the push he needed to go back and face Shen again. I want to know more about their story. How long did he know her before her prophecy and his exile? Was she part of the palace staff while he was growing up? Was she a friend or even parental figure to him growing up maybe?

This is one of the most consistently funny and good trilogy's I've ever seen. the third movie isn't quite as good as the second but it isn't awful in any meaningful way either. It's still at least as good as the first at it's worst (though the soundtrack is miles better than either of the first two movies imo.) everything about this movie just works so well. Gotta say my favorite part of all the movies is the progression of Po and Tigress's relationship. The level of trust and care shown between them without ever really coming off as romantic is just beautiful.

I remember when I saw this for the first time. I was simply blown away by how good it was, and a lot of lesser critics were saying it was fantastic and were equally confused as to why it was being scored so low. This movie is a better sequel than most, and I'd put it up there with some of the best animated movies of all time. Its always a joy to come back and rewatch. It has a lot of celebrity cameos but I don't think they take away from how good the performances are, and the humor is always on point and never feels out of place. Its also just gorgeous, especially when the 3D and 2D effects are blended so seamlessly. The entire picture is a work of art.

If y’all ever want more kung fu panda content after the movies I HIGHLY recommend this 25 minute short film called Secrets of the Furious Five. Kung Fu Panda 2 is the best of the 3 (personally). Third is much lighter, 2nd was a perfect blend of humor, dark, heart and the BEST background score.
Shen was such a great villain, he is also a powerful kung fu master but has the brains too! I never thought a peacock could be so intimidating!
And my favourite two moments is shifu’s entrance “your friend there is very persuasive!” And the last “I am your son” just *chef’s kiss*
KFP3 is a nice wrap to the trilogy but is not as good as the 2nd. But kung fu panda is a SOLID trilogy

I still cannot believe how much of a gem this movie was. It’s incredibly rare for a sequel to meet the standard of its predecessor, especially when the first film sets such a high standard, but this film managed to exceed to original. They improved on the already brilliant choreography and animation, gathered a somehow even more star studded cast without overcrowding, and delivered on both a story and villain that outmatched KPF1. The awe I felt when realising that Shen was a better villain than Tai Lung (my then all-time favourite villain) is a feeling I’ll never forget. Easily a top 5 all time animation film. Great reaction as always guys..
