I stopped watching this episode when they said nobody but Asians were interred. My Italian grandparents were. My grandfather was forced to close his business, and they were moved to an apartment where they could be watched. But nobody ever mentions this. My grandfather came here when he was 16 because his father had passed away when he was a child and both of his brothers died in WW1, so his mom sent him to live with his uncle. My grandmother was the first in her family to be born here. That their loss of their rights is ignored deeply disturbs me.

I'm no fan of Adam, but I think the point he's making with that remark is that Jews at that time were often new immigrants, and therefore very poor, so they wouldn't have had the financial means to participate in any sport that wasn't cheap. This was certainly true of my own grandparents. My father told me that he hated going to the dentist, because novocaine cost extra and his mom just couldn't pay for it, so he had to have his teeth filled without the aid of painkillers. I guess his mom was being cheap, but she was also very poor, so she didn't really have any alternative.

The stat he used that made me start looking at his claims more skeptically was when he said that "Only 40% of undocumented immigrants enter through the land border; most come through airplanes! A wall won't solve the undocumented immigrant problem." To which I thought "...So you're saying that a wall would be able to stop up to 40% of the currently entering illegals? I have to disagree with one point: a "concentration camp" doesn't imply mass murder or genocide. It's simply a place to concentrate a specific demographic for control and internment. What the Nazis ran were Death Camps which they sold to the general population as simple concentration camps in order to mitigate the "Jewish Menace".
I'm not excusing the internment of Japanese-Americans during WW II or any other group that has suffered through that type of injustice, just pointing out the modern misconception of the term "concentration camp".

    • @ActualJusticeWarrior

@@ActualJusticeWarrior You're wrong. Even FDR referred to the Japanese American camps as "concentration camps." After WWII, the Jewish community wanted the Japanese American community and others to stop using the term "concentration camp"...just like many black people today don't like the gay community using the term "civil rights" to describe their struggles because they don't see the extent of their oppression as equivalent. However, it doesn't change the fact that "civil rights" is the appropriate phrase and it doesn't change the fact that "concentration camp" is still officially an accurate and legitimate term.

This whole episode is just one big virtue signal. How is this NOT race baiting?

    • @FatherTime89

    • @MrMandude365
      @MrMandude365 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

But he clearly did stereotype white people as racist. The black writer basically tells the white director that stereotypes are only funny to him because he is white. And those basketball skits? Do you think they had a white guy portray the racist on accident? And come on, what about that part where they all say the only reason the Germans weren't put into camps was because they were white? Even if they weren't, how could you possibly know THATS the reason why, with all of the differing factors? How can you honestly say to yourself that this isn't race baiting? I'll admit, I haven't seen the episode, but regardless of what this guy says, I've seen enough to know this is race baiting. There is no context that could make this anything else. When you downplay injustices German Americans faced to suit your narrative that only non white people had it bad, THAT is race baiting.
Also, if what he said was all a bunch of straw men arguments, how were they? Like I said, I haven't seen the episode, so you might be right. I won't rule that out. But I want to know how. So far, you've only given me semantic arguments. "Oh, they never called it an epidemic, so clearly they aren't saying its a big deal". Yeah they are. It's the point of the whole episode.

One of the reasons for the downfall of Adam ruins everything lies in its name: "everything". Not everything can be ruined, but he tries to anyway because that's the catch of the show. He can't change direction and start praising things for being done right, that's not the product he's selling. Since he's been running out of material for a long time, he has to resort to ridiculing things that don't deserve ridicule.
The other reason is of course that most of the things that deserve ridicule these days come from the left, but as a leftist himself Adam can't see the shit stains on his knees, he won't call them out, thus instead he joins the SJW bandwagon.

Sean, awesome video! And thanks for addressing the Japanese internment bit of Adam's video. I just wanted to add some things that Adam also lied about. During World War II there was no wave of hatred towards Asian people. It was very specifically aimed at the Japanese. Japan's genocidal war in China with the rape of Nanking in 1937 specifically drummed up American distain towards Japan but also drummed up sympathy for the Chinese. After Pearl Harbor the government made sure that propaganda was very specific to Japan not just "Asia". Part of the reason we were in the war at all was to help China fight off Japanese imperialism as well as stop in the the rest of Asia and the Pacific.

This is what my history studing friend said
"A mixed bag. More were business owners than today. There is parts of the US where blacks were equal to whites but suddenly lost their equal rights.
Michigan's law prohibiting interracial marriage wasn't passed until 1925. Segregation existed before the 20s but it wasn't until around then that you had segregated hospital wards and courtrooms making blacks and whites take oaths on different bibles.
The book "the strange career of Jim crow" documents that southerners attempted integrating with blacks in the late 1800s but segregation got worst in the early 1900s.
In the fifties, segregationalists upheld a myth that jim crow laws came at the end of the civil war as a way to bring order to chaos. "The strange career of J.C." refutes that myth.
Also, 1920s was a bad period of race riots. Look up the burning of black wall street."

Great video! I am from Germany and didn't even know about the internment of German and Italian people in the US. For me, the worst part of this episode of "Adam ruins everything" is the fact that he uses the term "concentration camp" for the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. I've seen concentration camps in Germany and can tell that Adam obviously doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. The people there were tortured, experimented on, starved, killed, and cremated. It was one of the darkest times in human history and to use that term in this way is just disgusting.

We(mostly him and I was helping) were fishing on the dock sticking out into the water. I told him something along the lines “I don’t thing I can swim in this water because I wouldn’t reach the bottom.” My grandfather looked at me, reeled in his line, sat his pole down, picked me up and threw me in. I don’t remember a lot after that but I do remember my grand grandfather saying “Learn quick, you get swept out to the river, we’re gonna have to call the coast guard to pick you up.” Next thing I know I was back at shore where my dad and grandfather were laughing and my mom was yelling at both of them.

A japanese guy living in the philppines in the 40s wrote a book about how, as a young teenager, he joined the japanese forces that invaded davao, where there was a large japanese population. Before the invasion, he had worked for a spanish lady and had filipino friends and classmates.
He helped them when he could using his connections but remained loyal to japan because 1. He was japanese regardless of having spent most of his life in the philippines and 2. Betraying his country wouldve been dangerous for him.
Being friends with locals and loyal to ones homeland is normal behavior isnt it? Im just bringing this up cause i cant understand why the temporary imprisonment of japanese americans in ww2 was considered racist, even on a libertarian channel. Maybe it was illegal and was done by racist people, but what was racist about the imprisonment itself? Everybody talks about how no spies were caught this way. If some had, would that have made it less racist?
Honest question, not race baiting or anything. It just seems like common sense.

That said, i personally dont see the harm in temporary imprisonment as a precaution but taking their businesses etc is going too far because after the war they should be able to go back to their private lives.

Adam Confirms the accuracy of human pattern recognition.
The science of sports TED talk is very illuminating on how biology impacts success in sports. It's not just "blacks weren't allowed to swim, it's also their physiology
Another one is ACT trends by racial group were Asians out due everyone in math-sciences were it comes closer to normal with language.
So with the blacks can swim it's a subconscious recognition that most black people can't swim, no real genetic implications just a recognition of the general trend. I didn't even know that it was *that* stark either, I just figured less black people knew how to swim.
The same occurs with Asians it's a recognition that generally if you were forced to guess the best math students in a class betting on the Asians is a safe bet.
But once imagine the social constructivists, science deniers that make up the college humor/Adam ruins everything viewer base comes to the conclusion that the disparities between groups are a result of governmental policy with no account for competency.
Like with their argument that "poor people play basketball, so blacks are better at basketball because their poor" falls apart with the over-representation of black people in football. You need the space of a field and luxury of being able to afford equipment something black people gave neither of on Adams infantile perception of the world.

German Americans were also discriminated against, as were Italian Americans. Both were interned, my family hid our German heritage until 1995 due to German discrimination.
Also a Japanese pilot who was involved in Pearl was shot down and assisted by Japanese residents. That was one of the reasons to the Japanese internment. Right, wrong or indifferent it happened but it was a far cry from the NSDAP camps. The two are comparable in only the fact both had camp in their names and held people in against their will. Other then that they aren’t even remotely similar.
I was born in 1986, when my grandmother died in 1995 we were sitting around her kitchen and my dad and uncle were talking and said “well it’s been long enough, we’re German” I always though we were just irish. He said his parents and grandparents hid their ancestry due to discrimination during “the war” not sure which war started it, I guess WWI with WWII cementing it. My great grandparents would have likely started in WWI and my grandparents in WWII, despite me being born in 86’ most of my cousins were born between the late 50’s(when my dad was born) and early 70’s.
