    This is an introduction to our way of doing kata using body compression. Please let me know what you think and what do you want to see with our future videos.

    Thank you. I was on the Island of Okinawa from 1971 - 1972
    where I took Shorin Ryu Matsumura. We started out in belts of Green 5, Green 4, Brown 3, 2, 1 and Black. Same kata I believe. Again, thanks.

    Great breakdown on the practical application of the kata. Thank you Sensei. I look forward to the other Katas. Will you be doing a breakdown on the kihon katas of Shorin Ryu?

      I will be producing more in depth videos of body mechanics for other katas.

    The hikite traditionally for me has always been about pulling someone’s arm or leg in while you punch them. The elbow thing is goofy yeah.
    Good tips!

    I’m getting back into the lifetime marathon. Good video. Good friend has a dojo in Cocoa Beach Fl. I used to study in NYC. It’s been a while, but the old bod needs the movement and the gray head needs the discipline. I kook forward to more videos.

    I was trained in Wado Ryu Karate. We always had our fist on our hip. This was in Northern Ireland. In The Netherlands I have seen the fist chambered under the armpit or there abouts, as you demostrated and as I thought, this is not correct form.
    Thankyou.

      When it comes to style, some have it here and there, but when it comes to real life application, it should be at a place where you feel the most power generated. This is why we have a kata where we followed the "traditional" way and another where we should listen to our bodies. I will make a video about this as well. Thank you for your comment!

    I think the main point of retracting the fist to the armpit is just to train newbies to get used to it so they dotn get their arm broken and for wrestling while standing, and also for shadow punches so you can angle your body and hide your next power punch for a higher chance of knockout.

    • @continuousfist
      @continuousfist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree it should only be taught to newbies.

    I dont believe in that elbow theory nonsense.
    I believe that energy is being driven through the punch on one side while the other side pulling back is also adding power (rotational power) around your center line.
    Otherwise, you would just be punching with one half of your body mass.
    It's adding torque.
    But of course thats an opinion..

    • @continuousfist
      @continuousfist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank for your input. Indeed you need rotational torque for power, but the chambering from the non dominant hand should not be too high. Also, power is coming from the legs and the lats. I will do a video on that. Your comment is appreciated as it allows me to create more videos.

  • @eddienegrino8348
    @eddienegrino8348 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Are the first punches to the chest or stomach level?

  • @eddienegrino8348
    @eddienegrino8348 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your style doesn't extend the punch all the way?

    • @continuousfist
      @continuousfist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can do a segment on that. If the arm is fully extended, there is no more power. It only looks good when performing kata with full extension, but in application, full extension without using the lats is asking for your arm to be broken. I can explain more in a video, instead of writing. Thank you for the question.
