Your video makes me realize that Gichen Funokoshi’s teachers Azoko and Itosu really knew their stuff with their katas. I’m not sure if I spelled their names correctly.
@@continuousfist Oh I love your channel. And I love forms. Back in the 90s, Bassai Dai was my competition form, and I practiced it religiously. I remember one time one of my in-laws tried to choke me from the front, and I countered with that double upper block followed with the two fists to the rib cage. I remember reading in Funokoshi’s master text that you take a half step after that, not a full step because the guy is supposed to take one step back in surprise after the double strike to the rib cage. Well, my in law actually took one step back in surprise. Until then I thought katas were just for show, but I know better now.
The block can also be used as an offence if trained properly especially against an untrained opponent. Once you block his strike hard and he feels the pain he’s not going to be able to continue his attack.
Why is Tori's first punch so far away from you and why touch his arm if you are that far out of range? You don't need to defend if he is that far away. His initial punch is like 2 feet from you. Shouldn't he step to you to make real contact with follow through to simulate real life?
Let me know how do you train your blocking techniques!
Love the content! Will be doing these with my kids!

@@BruceLeroy-y1p blocking far away is just only measuring distance.
