    I don’t use a brush. Pour it on and tilt excess back into the can. One coat. Have never had any problems with cloudiness

    I use distilled water, a squirt of Dawn dish detergent, and a couple drops rubbing alcohol. Put it in a spray bottle. Mist a paper towel to clean my paintings. As for varnishing I do use the liquitex medium and varnish. That can be watered down up to 25%. I then pour it on my painting. Absolutely no brush Strokes. It seems to be self-leveling. Just make sure you're painting is level. I'm still learning myself

      I didn't realise the Liquitex medium and varnish could be watered down. That's a really useful tip, thank you. I've just varnished my first two paintings, applying it with a make-up sponge but still got the odd "brush" type mark. A final layer poured on, spread, and the excess sponged off seems to have solved that but I'd prefer to avoid marks in the first place if I can.

    • @EtherealOrbAbastractArt
      @EtherealOrbAbastractArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@debbiethomas3687 Glad you were able to get it smooth. That was a genius idea. The downside of liquitex is that it crazes so pouring it on can be tricky but you solved that buy sponging off the excess. Doing that without a mark... awesomesauce!!!!! I haven't varnished in months ack!!! DId you use the make up sponge to sponge it off too?

    Good tutorial with kids and pets included and the slow-mo techniques visuals so folks could get a good comparison look. Ignore those who have nothing better to do than criticize others. MinWax (or most any good brand of) water based polycrylic is the most recommended acrylic sealant as well as use for image transfer. I tend to use the spray more often for even application. When using liquid form, I pour it then, spread and remove excess lightly with the flat side of a straight edge, similar to what is done after pouring cement. If you round off one side, the edge won't dig in as you pull it (think of snow sled rails). For me, rollers have a tendency to 'lift' the product it is rolling out creating undesired air bubbles and/or texture. Beautiful artwork.

    I highly recommend Gamvar varnish. It can be used with both acrylic and oil. you will need gamsol thinner to clean the brush.
    I found it to be a very smooth brush free finish. Better than either liquitex or minwax. really brings out the color.

    HI, I'm a newbie in the early stages of video watching and purchasing materials (can't wait to make a painting) - in one of the videos on varnishing, I learned that when using silicone (especially if you use the Coconut Milk Serum) you need to remove it completely or else the varnish will repel. She sprinkled baby powder (you can also use cornstarch) all over the painting and dabbed it with a soft brush then repeated the step - allowing the powder to sit for a while to absorb the remaining silicone, then brushed it off and finally wiped the painting with a solution of Dawn, water and alcohol. It sounded like a lot of steps, but may be worth the effort - have any of you tried doing this? I'm open to ALL suggestions. Many thanks.

    • @EtherealOrbAbastractArt
      @EtherealOrbAbastractArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dolores Jonusas Unless you use deco art top coat as a varnish, you do need to clean the silicone I personally don't like the baby powder/baking method. Acrylic paint is porous so I don't want to introduce anything that might get stuck in the tiny pours. A lot of people do use that method and like it though. I use a little bit of alcohol on a damp cloth to rub off any silicone. I usually go over it twice. Takes about 2 minutes and dries in seconds. I know one person told me her painting smeared a bit with alcohol, but I haven't had an issue. It may depend on what medium is used. I would recommend testing a small canvas with whatever method you choose to see what works for you. :)

    Just an FYI - there's no harm in thinning the Liquitex varnish. I'm pretty sure the back of the bottle says you can thin it with water up to 25%.

    Hi Meghan! Thank you so much for this video! I am just curious - I noticed in the video you washed the brush and then continued on to your next piece with the polycrylic... When using the polycrylic, does the brush need to be completely dry? or can it be a little damp from washing? Have you noticed a damp brush fogging up the finish on your paintings? Thank you in advance!

    I love yr paintings, just beautiful... Thanks for showing us how to apply varnish. Why did u put silicone? Is what yr doing cheaper than resin? Thxs

    • @EtherealOrbAbastractArt
      @EtherealOrbAbastractArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silicone helps to create cells. This is much cheaper than resin. I love resin and the beautiful depth it achieves, but I don't work with it very much for a variety of reasons including cost. Pouring mediums such as floetrol and basics matte fluid medium are much more affordable. Paint ranges quite a bit and you use more paint with pouring than in resin, but most paints are reasonably priced. Hope that answered your question. :)

    You can brush a few times. Brush one way and then brush the other way to get rid of any lines.

  • @alliedarky
    @alliedarky 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I clean silicone off paintings, I just gently wash it with dish soap and water with a dampened paper towel. I learned that for Ann Osborne and it has worked really well for me so far. My only issues tend to be that, in my negative space pours, little fuzz bits from my brush stick to the white parts. No matter how thoroughly I wash my brush, there still is fuzz in it. Maybe I need a different brush I’m really not sure, but I’m wary to ruin any more paintings with fuzz!

    • @EtherealOrbAbastractArt
      @EtherealOrbAbastractArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What varnish are you using? Minwax polycrylic self levels very well. You can use a silicone spreader from the baking department, the ones with small groves work best. Artist's gloss varnish won't self level though.

      I'm not really sure. A paint should have something comperable even if they don't have minwax brand.

      You can used a matte varnish that would not be shinny at all if you don't like the shine look 😀

    i don't know why brush strokes would bother people. paintings have brush strokes, nothing says this type of painting has to be glass-flat and flawless. i think adds the human touch to it all and makes it look it's not mass made pours from china done by macine (there are such things!) could only watch 3 minutes, was getting car sick watching all the fast motion close up flashes of the paintings.
