    I use this varnish too. But I don't use a brush or a roller. I thin the varnish with about 10% water and then pour it on like resin. That works perfectly.

      Mim PreisImfeld do you add additional layers? I use a watered down version of my varnish too but I haven’t tried pouring it.

      No, just one layer, that is enough. But make sure that the layer you put on is not too thick, then it may crack!

    The fire and ice one would look 1000 times better with resin. Those vibrant colors would pop way more and the contrast with the blacks would be insane!!!

    I found that the Liquitex Gloss Varnish has a MUCH nicer, smoother finish than the Liquitex Glosss Medium & Varnish. There were absolutely no brush strokes with the straight varnish. So just be aware that there is a difference!

    Thank you for sharing this technique! I'll deffenitly try the roller brush to apply varnish in my next painting. If you've used spray varnish and it left streaks can you fix it by using this technique on top of what you've already done?

      Hello :) No problem ;) Glad it's helpful. I haven't used the spray varnish to date but it's worth a try though it might just need another coat of spray varnish as I'm not sure the effect adding this gloss varnish on top of spray varnish would create. Also, as far as I. Concerned and I use every medium. ART has no rules. It is what you make it and how much you enjoy creating. To me there is no distinction between real painting and others. It's like which is better self taught Artist or someone that has maybe been held back by rules of school. Phew..off my soapbox now. Lol

      YEAH!!! That's so awesome!! I'm so glad it worked out for you and looks amazing I'm sure :) I used isopropyl alcohol to wipe the silicone off. I just put some on paper towel and swiped across the painting but don't go over the same area until the alcohol dries or it will take paint off. It takes a little paint but not much. Then I used Liquitex gloss varnish to finish off the painting; amzn.to/2RtCpHT Hope this helps and thank you for watching my videos :)

    How do you get rid of the silicone? So after your painting is dried and done, the next step is cleaning off the silicone? Then adding the liquitex or resin?

    • @CraftyJenn
      @CraftyJenn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use Isopropyl alcohol; amzn.to/2qbkBFg to wipe the silicone off. I just add some to paper towel and swipe over my painting. Be careful not to swipe over the same area twice - you need to wait till the alcohol has evaporated before doing so or it will take off paint. Yes after it's dried just clean off the silicone then you can add which ever you like for a finish, Liquitex gloss varnish; amzn.to/2D2W79y or Resin; amzn.to/2yy8syF I hope this helps and have fun creating!! I love the larger grays and green painting. Do you have a video of you making it? I’m digging the color palette. About the varnishing process, did you experience bubbles using the roller? I have Liquitex High Gloss Varnish but I’ve ruined a few pours by using a brush. No matter how lightly I painted them. How much time do you need to wait in between coats?

    • @CraftyJenn
      @CraftyJenn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a video of that one: th-cam.com/video/cTzd86ym3Xg/w-d-xo.html I hadn't experienced bubbles this time but I usually now use a brush with several coats to get a glossier effect. I wait for a few hours between coats. The more layers you add the more you build up a great sealant coating!!

    I know its meant to protect the painting from dust, dirt, etc and maybe because you just applied it and didn't show it dried, but it looks to me like it takes something away from either the colors or texture appearance (if that's a thing) of the painting.

    • @CraftyJenn
      @CraftyJenn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will make the canvas glossy when dried and the colors come out more and if you add several layers it can appear just like resin. Thank you for watching ;)

    • @beccahochanadel3907
      @beccahochanadel3907 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree I hate varishing my own works I paint a lot of rocks and I hated using spray sealer. In any situation it seems like varnish or sealer makes the texture of the rock or canvas more noticeable with distracts from the painting. It’s like you see a bunch of imperfections. Not with resin though resin seems to eliminate any texture or imperfections! It’s all personal preference though. I actually usually like matte sealant or varnish it sounds weird but I like it

      I always got bubbles too! I figured out why. If you over-manipulate the varnish it happens. It’s almost like the varnish suds up like soap would.

      I use isopropyl alcohol; amzn.to/2NQXn1o to clean the silicone off my paintings. I just pour a little in some paper towel and wipe evenly across the painting making sure I don't go over the same wiped area twice as it will take paint off if wiped too much but if you leave the alcohol to evaporate between wipes it works really well. It only takes a few seconds for the alcohol to dissipate. For my brushes I just use warm water and some soap and wash them in the sink :) I hope this helps and thank you so much for watching ;)

      No worries here to help :) So you coated with varnish? Did you clean the canvas first to get the silicone off? Hope this helps :)

      @@CraftyJenn yes, I let the painting dry for two weeks, then I cleaned the silicone with alcohol, then I gave four coats of final paint and between one coat and the other I let three hours pass. • @CraftyJenn
      @CraftyJenn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very strange. I haven't had a cracking issue with the varnish. Might be that the layers were too thick which is usually why paint cracks. Maybe try thinner layers for each coat. I just use isopropyl alcohol that you can pick up in any drug store. I just dab a bit on paper towel then quickly wipe without going over the area I just wiped. If you go over an area while the alcohol is still wet it will take off the paint. Usually I just go over the whole canvas once - let dry and if there is still silicone or shiny parts I will go over that area again. The alcohol doesn't take very long to dry. I sometimes get a little paint that will show up on the paper towel but not too much. I hope this helps - I do know some people use mildly soapy water but it's the same kinda deal that if you keep going over the canvas while wet it will also take lots of paint off. Thank you so much for watching and I hope cleaning your paintings will go better :)

      Hi Lori. Yes you can paint over varnish and then just varnish again. Though I'd be careful trying to fill in holes as it might change the look of your painting or could be something really cool LOL That's the beauty of acrylics you can always paint over :P Thank you so much for watching :)

    • @CraftyJenn
      @CraftyJenn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh no - well with the paper towel you just want to spray till it's a bit damp and not wet and when you pull across try to pull up on it so it just glides lightly across. Other than that it might be your mixture, maybe too thick the paints. Did you add water to the mixture?

      Ok. Just know that when u use rollers and bad brushes that r not made to spread finishes or varnishes, u usually can get lines, but that isn't something that u should really worry about, since most art lovers don't care about lines, but about what ur painting is about.

      What kind of brush are you using?

  • @TwobOne_1

    Why add water to the varnish? This reduces the shine and breaks the polymer bond.

      Ana Contreras - the information on the bottle says that it can safely be diluted with water up to 25%, if my memory serves me. So, it’s definitely not breaking the polymer bonds at her 10% dilution.
