    Jackie ‘Mr. Excitement’ Wilson (1934-1984) I grew up listening to Jackie on the radio in Philadelphia. He is listed in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Singers. ‘Lonely Teardrops’ was my favorite. On stage he had James Brown moves🕺🏾 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 CHECK OUT : ABC IN CONCERT 1973 Jackie Wilson

      Jackie Wilson never signed on with Motown, even though Berry Gordy wrote and produced for him initially. Wilson was on the King label while a member of Billy Ward and his Dominoes, then signed to Brunswick Records when he went solo.

    If you've ever seen Ghostbusters II, you've heard this song. The people of New York sang it as the Ghostbusters blasted it on their boom box to generate positive response from the "mood slime" in order to defeat Vigo.

    India smiles! The music made you smile, that's all that matters! Van Morrison knew Jackie Wilson made people smile, so he wrote "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile)" and scored a minor hit with it in 1972. "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher" was a top ten hit in 1967, long before music videos existed, so focus on the music. As for the video? Who knows. The clamation suggests a dancing raisin. What I wanna know is why were all the people in the audience sitting down? They should have been dancing!

    • @SpaceCattttt
      @SpaceCattttt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andreaschmall5560 Well, quite. And I believe the video was made in the 80's as well, when 50's and 60's music was going through a serious revival, so you'd think that the kids would be interested in seeing the originals in action. But instead we got things like Jive Bunny...
      Today, I don't think kids would watch either the original or this video. There's not enough tits and ass. :(

    This is the video for the 1987 release of "Higher and Higher". The rerelease of "Reet Petite" using claymation figures was a huge hit, so they followed it up with an ironic take on someone trying to get to a 70's Jackie Wilson concert. Jackie had already died in 1984, aged only fifty. The song was actually written in 1967 and was a hit in three consecutive decades. The video you should have chosen was Jackie Wilson 'Performing' "Higher and Higher". It has over four and a half million hits. Jackie Wilson was a pioneer in R&B music and, like many of his contemporaries, was ripped off and died penniless.

    This was his "Last" Major hit Record unfortunately. He had quite a life. He was a Boxer, then The Leader of The Shakers a Notorious Gang, then he joined The Dominoes later named Billy Ward & The Dominoes who had the Hit Have Mercy Baby, he went Solo and his First Songs Reet Petite & Lonely Teardrops were written by Berry Gordy The Founder & President Of Motown Records. After they broke up Jackie had other hits like Baby Workout and I Get The Sweetest Feeling but his Manager Nat Tarnopol screwed him over big time bad. Even Elvis emulated him when singing Return To Sender. In the 1970's he suffered a Brain Hemorrhage and became a Vegetable. His Guardian took care of him out of her own pocket and for many years DJ Casey Kasem paid homage to him during December. He too was from Detroit, MI. In the UK he is still revered. In 2001 Will Young who became the first Pop Idol sang I Get The Sweetest Feeling during The Live auditions and Reet Petite was made into a Cartoon by a Company called Claymation and Last Year on a UK Show called The Greatest Dancer, a Same Sex Couple danced to Reet Petite. This Video is actually a UK Video. Rod Stewart also did his Version on his CD Soul.

    Story goes that Jackie Wilson was on the set when Elvis did this scene. Elvis and Jackie were good friends , if you notice on this scene Elvis keeps looking to his left at times and gives that famous smile of his. His dance routine was a tribute to Jackie Wilson who used to dance like that on stage. Years later Jackie had a severe stroke on stage while doing a show, he never recovered from it and eventually died as a result. But while in the hospital it is rumored that Elvis helped pay for his medical expenses, true friendship from Elvis. Things you don't hear about but something he probably did throughout his life. Thank you Elvis.

    Where you probably heard it before was on "Gostbusters II." Personally, I think this song should have been sent out on the Voyagers rather than Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode." Although the latter was a great song, this one is more emotional and "has a really good beat and you can dance to it." (That's a quote from "American Bandstand.") Jackie Wilson had such a great voice. Take in "Night" which shows his vocal abilities.
    The only performer who could do justice to Jackie Wilson's songs would be Tom Jones. Would like to hear an album of JW by TJ.
