The LCD infront of a white surface would probably look more like a photo cuz without the back light it doesn't give off light

I add more pictures via a USB drive. My OS remained the same and just used standard wallpaper option. I don't recall where I got the frame from but something I had laying around for years. I'm assuming you can pick them up almost anywhere such as Walmart/Target etc.
