  • In today's video, I will be showing you how to take your old maybe broken laptop and make it into an external monitor. This will be achieved using an LVDS controller board. These are incredibly cheap and can be used to make external portable monitors out of your old laptop screens. What is even better is the fact that you can buy them for extremely cheap online. If you manage to find a USB C controller board (these are more expensive0 You could even power it using a power bank!

I actually did this trick a few years back and didn't make a screen out mine, but used it to create a projector. I had to modify the control board a bit (no backlight, well not the one thst came with the screen at least), mess about with an enclosure (with cooling and strong enough light source), and mess about with lenses and mirrors. It turned out pretty good and worked nicely as a fun project to make a relatively inexpensive projector I didn't mind taking outdoors to have fun with friends.

Kiddo you have a future on broadcasting, truly. Thanks for that tip. I have some broken stuff I need to recycle and this is perfect. Keep doing such a good job! Those morons with the dislikes are just jealous.

Looking for a way to reuse what I might've put in the bin, and found a decent channel, I consider this a win

Honestly, that controller board would be cool for a retro games setup: VGA for Dreamcast, Component for Gamecube/Wii/PS2/etc, TV for NES/SNES, and HDMI for... Idk, a raspberry Pi for everything else

I was curious, other than being 30 or 40 pin, is your LDVS adaptor "screen part number specific"? I've also got a stack of old laptop screens and think it would be cool to set up 5 or 6 monitors. Or build one giant screen :O Great video btw
