I love this! Such a great video, Craig. As someone who's been watching you since the very early days, it's been fun to see you reinvent yourself and gain traction again. It has a FAR bigger impact than the other things you mentioned, like tags, how many times you repeat your keyword, the name of the video file you upload (total myth, btw), and everything else. I'll be sharing this video with creators for a long time to come. Thanks for making it!
Hey Craig, I'm an old subscriber that had actually stopped seeing your videos for a lomg while. I am really happy with your recent search for authenticity in this channel, and this video in specific should serve as an antidote to so many big big channels out there with nothing but plastic and poison disguised as content. Hope your channel stay strong. Be safe and be you.
It's funny how this video is the most updated. I stopped watching somewhere around late spring-early summer of 2016 just due to life. The past 2 1/2 weeks I've been watching videos from May 2016 and finally caught up today so this is the perfect video to be caught up on. Made me realize how I missed watching your videos years before and the enjoyment it brings. I'm happy to be back!
1. have a purpose 2. effectively communicate your purpose with everything you do 3. be authentic 4. don’t worry about time These are lovely tips Wheezy that I’m going to implement on my channel, I really enjoyed your video ❤️
Craig, I like your silly and witty sense of humor in your videos and sometimes I learn something. I especially enjoy when you try something for a month and report back. You are a bit of fun in my life. Thank you for existing. Even in this ‘serious’ video you were still amusing. Believe in yourself and your success and great ideas will naturally pop into your head.
I've been around for a while, not always an active watcher, but never unsubbed. You and the vlogbrothers were my first youtubers! I remember popping back at one point and seeing that you were no longer enjoying content. I came back a bit ago and was sooooo happy to see you having a good time again. And congratulations on your beautiful child! I'm having fun having fun 'with' you and please continue to make vids because I"m almost out of new ones!
I love that you highlighted having good audio equipment. If a channel has amazing graphics or tells a mostly visual story I’m likely to click away or at best save the video to watch later (which I rarely do) when I have time to watch it. I listen to TH-cam so much. And only glance at it occasionally because I’m usually doing something else on a computer or getting ready for work or eating lunch. And if a video has bad audio I generally don’t continue watching.
Bro you're great at making videos. Obviously through all the videos you've made its paid off. The editing, b roll, story telling is great. Very impressed.
I'm SO glad you're getting the recognition you deserve again! I found your channel in 2013 (Matt Damon Doesn't Go to the Bathroom), and from my perspective you've had at least 3, maybe 4, different video formats between then and now. I like them all! I watched you most consistently in 2014-2015 when I was in high school, but the main reason I stopped was because I haven't been spending as much time on youtube anymore.
I watch your videos because you are so smart and funny and genuine -- I need more people like you (and your wife) in my life. And I love your parents!! If you ask me, your channel's purpose is to make people feel good about being alive.
So glad that you have learned some of these things and you are passing it on to others. I had stopped watching your videos, and the number one reason had to do with perceived lack of authenticity. Like you said, you would often had so many jokes and non-sequiturs in a video that it was unclear what the video was even about or what your actual opinion was. I stopped clicking on videos because it felt like I was gonna get jerked around for a few minutes with no real benefit or insight. When you were explaining authenticity in this video, that’s when I realized it was my main problem with your videos before. Great job, Craig. It’s cool to see this growth.
I've noticed you've been doing better recently and I think it's awesome that you've found some principles that work for you in making videos. You're one of the OG's and it's really nice seeing that you're still around and kickin'! Can't let the young bucks have all the fun haha. I really like number 4. It's so easy for creators to get caught up in the mindset of "gotta upload 3 times a week or I'm screwed", and then inevitably burn out. In terms of longevity and being happy, rule 4 is a great one. You rule Craig!
Loving this channel more and more! This is exactly what I needed to hear as I too feel the world of internet has become fake and full of the superficial. I felt thats how my 'The Kooky Dancer' channel was coming across plus dealing with health problems which I didn't want to share publicly and so left the channel dormant for nearly two years BUT this year is the come back!!! I"'m so excited as the plan is to do exactly what your video suggests, filling me with more confidence to be myself and do what I want to do. The channel I write from was set up as an education purpose for my past students, friends and family as up until now, I've worked for someone else so never had the time to do the videos how I wanted. Thank you for this video so helpful and such easy watching xxx
My family and I have loved you for years and you're one of the only TH-camrs I haven't gotten really burned out on. Can't say we've watched every video, but we consistently come back to you, for sure. It's probably the beard. Oh, and the movies you referenced are definitely some great movies! We always love your content, humor, intellect, and even your musical abilities! Keep up the great work. If you would ever leave we would truly miss you.
I've just started following you. Actually just during your transition from pointless content to actual purposeful content and I want to tell you I NEVER watch 15+ min TH-cam videos but because you have such passion in your purpsoe....I stick around. So happy you're taking the time to think through relevant topics and bringing humor along with the consciousness....all for the good! All the feels. Thanks.
Used to be suscribed back in 2011, and weirdly forgot about you, but now I feel not only nostalgic like rediscovering an old kinderegg, but actually there's no feeling disenfranchised. Glad to rediscover this channel!
I watched all your videos back in the day. I only recently rediscovered your channel through your bujo video. I'm glad you're still doing this all these years later and that you've found a way to be more mature but still be you. I love it when the coffee's done.
I subbed in 2011 or so when I was 17, and I'll admit I drifted away. You didn't do anything wrong, I'm just a different person now, as are you and TH-cam in general. I just recently stumbled on your caffeine and meditation videos and was pleased to see how well things are going for you - married with a kid! Suffice to say I'm back and will be watching your videos again going forwards.
Hey Craig, just wanted to say I've been watching your videos since 2009 (I think) and I've never commented. So here I go.... Hi, I like your videos. Keep it up! ❤
For the record, your videos were consistently good from 2012 to 2017. I never stopped watching. Your four tips actually are more aligned with YT algorithms than you think. So much of success on YT is click through rate and thumbnails.
Wheezy you're the best and you made my college years so much easier. I'm so happy you're doing so good and kept your awesome personality this whole time. Thanks!!
Oh my gosh, you have no idea how many times I tried to pause the video when you said you use text to insert funny jokes. I tried like 20 times on my phone! I was so determined to see the joke. Then, the disappointment.... well played. Well played.
I want to be like you when I grow up. Despite the fact I'm probably older than you. I dug this video out today for some much needed inspiration for where I take my channel. Thanks for that. It worked. I think your an exception that doesn't need formulas, processes or the walls of youtube best practice. Truth is, your a FUNNY guy that delivers great content in an entertaining way. That natural ability doesn't need frameworks! Keep doing what you do!
I will say as a looooong time beardlover, that there was a stretch where Craig was uploading a lot, and I can't speak to the quality of those videos, because I didn't feel compelled to watch them. It's hard to say if it's because they didn't have a clear topic, or if they were too long, or too frequent, or what, but I can say that the long-form long-time-between-uploads videos have been my favorite WheezyWaiter videos ever, and are certainly some of my favorite videos on TH-cam overall. So... thanks Craig, I'm glad you found some stuff that makes you excited to keep doing this, it makes me excited to keep watching
I think that your videos cater to a different age group/generation than they used to (based on my surfing of old TH-cam thumbnails and some videos). I don't think the people in my age group (21-30) care as much about how neat or tightly wrapped the video is, but like you said, how authentic and interesting the topic is. You're one of the people whose videos I tell my friends about because of how interesting, and frankly funny, they are. So keep it up, loving your content.
I love your light-hearted attituted in all this, and your capacity to not attach your self-worth to the success of your channel. Love your vids, okbyexxoxox
I can't wait for the day you make another How to do TH-cam video so that your statement at the end of this video becomes wrong. Great advice though, I've been in a bit of a rut lately with my channel and this helped a lot :)
I've really enjoyed your come back, Craig. I first viewed you back around the tail end of the Wheezy Tweens (It is a thing now) and you hit it on the head. You would be so caught up in roles sometimes it was hard to see past the silly to your real self. I think the past two years I feel like I better understand you and the values you want to represent - including silliness. In the times of short attention spans I now look for conversational content above 10 minutes because my view time coincides with activities where I can look away from the screen, still be entertained and hopefully, learn something. I'm happy to be part of the journey with you.
Totally agree with point 4. I sometimes look for videos that suit my available listening time, but mostly I just care about the content and will come back to watch the end if it's long and I can't finish watching it in one go. Long videos can be good.
It's really funny that you are making this. I saw a comment yesterday you left about 6 months ago on Michael Aranda's video where you said you were looking for jobs listings. I'm really stoked to see your channel pulling through.
I especially like rule #4. As a long time viewer, your open discussion about how you handle your feelings about your channel and your videos have always been really interesting and inspiring.
i couldnt really put into words why i came back to your channel, cause i with you from nearly the beginning till probably 2013 and just recently ive come back. Your doing a great job, keep at it!
What a wonderfully informative, entertaining and inspiring video. I hope this comment displays my true authenticity accurately, when ( I ) say thank you for the affirmation of process and technique. Giving me hope for the continued pursuit of being a content creator. Well done! (Edited moments later because of one letter typo.( I ) )
Not worrying about the time is something I need to keep reminding myself. Don't have a schedule and been fitting in video making when I can. I have a purpose with my videos and its fun. Thanks for sharing, needed to hear this.
I've been subscribed for probably 9 years or so and I really love how you've grown and evolved your content. The longer style videos you've been making over recent years have been really enjoyable and authentic. I think I stopped watching most videos somewhere in the middle of those 9 years but now I'm back on it - probably bc of these 4 rules :)
5 ปีที่แล้ว +4
I paused the video to read that and it wasn't even a joke! That's why i like you
WOW MAN!!!! 🤯 I'm going to apply this set of rules to my videos from here forward. After having watched this video I now look at my content and think it seems a little "directionless" and maybe a bit wandering. Now I will make every future video following my purpouses. My primary purpose on TH-cam is to make beautiful art. My purpose on TH-cam is to make beautiful art. Thank you so much for making this wonderful video.
Been a long time viewer for at least a decade, no joke, and it's been great to see your shooting up in success! Recently had 2 friend of mine mention your videos out of the blue. Great to see you getting the recognition you deserve!
I'm a new fan, arrived MAYBE last October or last June (2018) I have no idea. But I am so happy to have found you. Thank you for not hitting delete/backing down!
I watch these videos for your parents, and to watch your mum scrolling on her phone endlessly and swearing, and your dad reading the words is just amazing... "Progeny". Still makes me laugh when I think of it. You guys are awesome.
Can I just say: I REALLY enjoy your pointless videos. In a day and age where EVERYTHING has to have a purpose, to just be entertained for the sake of entertainment was a relief. That being said, your quitting sugar video brought me here, but your pointless videos kept me here.
Great advice, Craig. Having recently started documenting my travels around the world riding rollercoasters and eating ice cream, i've noticed that I do it to share my love of what I do. Instead of focusing on how it can pay the bills, ask yourself why you want to create content more than something with more security to it. A friend's father once said, be the best version of yourself, don't be someone else. it's true, you have a unique and wonderful charm to your content, man. Gratz.
These rules are great and I hope others find them useful. I definitely ascribed to that less than five minutes long vid rule, mostly because vlogbrothers success with it. Also because I know how reluctant I am to watch any videos that are over 5 minutes long unless I trust the creator... Like you. That said, I'm really enjoying your new vids! Nice to see ya on my feed more again.
I noticed that you're videos have become similar to those "self-experimental POV essay doc" channels (Matt D'Avella comes to mind). But, they still maintain that Wheezy Waiter Style of humour I like your style and I'll probably keep watching your videos until...well... Until I stop watching them, I guess! Best wishes
Yeah, I'm definitely doing that but it was never my intention to ONLY do that. I'm still doing a bunch of other things like "how to youtube" and "why do people like". I actually wasn't really aware of all the "selfexperiment" stuff out there until I started doing it, haha. NOTHING'S ORIGINAL!
Yes we want more montages!!! I been watching since the beginning of your channel and honestly at one point I stopped watching until a few months later when you showed up in my recommendations and I been back watching you vids ever since. I love that you were able to turn around your channel as the platform grew and changed
I've been subbed since maybe 2016, so I'm fairly late to the party. I sub to very few blog-style channels (I'll have to check, but this may be the only one). I enjoy yours because your content is informational and your style is entertaining. It's like having a thoughtful conversation with an intelligent friend, even the completely silly stuff. So in this brief span, thanks for all of the thought-provoking fun.
craig, this video was dope as hell. i'm glad that you're doing this for your channel. i've been following your channel for like almost ten years? so, i've definitely seen the evolution. but i'm glad that you're doing things that make you happy :3 cuz it's showing!
I started watching back in 2009-2010ish. Watched weekly until about 2015. Just found your channel again a few months ago. You’re very entertaining, keep doing what you’re doing!
Rule #1: Waste people's time to ensure the video's over 10 minutes long. Rule #2: Keep cutting your video to song/movie clips like BabbleTop Rule number three will shock you: I used BuzzFeed video titles for the last 6 months (Here's what happened) Rule #4: Make arbitrary lists! Bonus tip #1: Make lists within those lists. Listception! Inceplist? /End Sarcasm Seriously though, I can't believe this guy was recycling the same intro, outro and inside jokes for the last 6 years (up until July 2018) and wondered why his channel was declining. I stopped watching around 2012 (like everyone else) and watching his June 2018 videos now felt like opening a time capsule. Good luck with the new format Craig! thanks for waking up my Alexa ;)
I'm so happy you're back strong Wheezy. I've been watching your videos since 2008 I think and it feels really good seeing this channel back on it's feet!

I, for one, watch your stuff more frequently than I used to.
Oh hello Steven! I never thought your channel was dying, you're great
Slow downward plunge of despair? I know that thing!
Here's why I think you've been so successful recently:
1) Literal titles/thumbnails. As you mentioned, being clear helps! That's what I've been doing as well. People appreciate knowing exactly what your video is about, and then they won't click off when they don't get what they want. Watch time and retention: very important!

1. have a purpose
2. effectively communicate your purpose with everything you do
3. be authentic
4. don’t worry about time
These are lovely tips Wheezy that I’m going to implement on my channel, I really enjoyed your video ❤️
Looking to authenticity, honesty and purpose for tools to combat burnout is shockingly insightful advice.
The Steep Wheeze...lol. The Golden Age for WheezyWaiter is now 2019!
Pretty much
I love that you highlighted having good audio equipment.
Jokes more like yokes! I don't know why but I lost it at that. Great job!
Bro you're great at making videos. Obviously through all the videos you've made its paid off. The editing, b roll, story telling is great. Very impressed.
Craig must have spent a fortune on stock footage for this video.
He’s most likely subscribed to a stock footage website. There amazing and pretty dam cheap.
11 people clicked in to tell Aaron the exact same thing only to take a sigh of relief and settle for a virtual pat on the back for jaypee.
I did not know that's how it worked. Cool! I come away from this experience better informed.
Which ones do you think he uses?

I don't have a youtube channel, but I like all your videos so I clicked
Same, but I think this should be applicable for most things people do.
Craig in all seriousness. Srsly here. Some criticism:
That new montage was amazing
Your criticism is noted.
Remember when Forrest Gump played Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump
insert name nice
Is that the movie where Forrest Gump plays Tom Hanks in a movie called Forrest Gump?
I thought that was when he played Tom Hanks in Bosom Buddies.
"something something conclusion." is how I'm going to end every letter, essay, and voicemail from now on.
Thanks!!
7:40 when I lost it 😂👍 Nice to see you back in the mix Wheezy
& PS- Congratulations on the new edition to your family :)
First, also.. I'm happy to see you still making content
Welcome back!
@@wheezywaiter I've been a fan for a long time now but I made my way back when I saw boogie2988 shout you out on the h3 podcast
You are amazing and creative person. Wish we could be friends in real life.
This clone killed the real wheezywaiter by throwing him in the alligator pit and stole his TH-cam channel to pay off the eagle.
Totally.
I think you are in the right track, dude. Also your beard looks great.
Totally agree with point 4. I sometimes look for videos that suit my available listening time, but mostly I just care about the content and will come back to watch the end if it's long and I can't finish watching it in one go. Long videos can be good.
"OTHER TIMES IT'S NOT" bahahahaha this is great stuff man! Thanks! 🤘😁
It's really funny that you are making this. I saw a comment yesterday you left about 6 months ago on Michael Aranda's video where you said you were looking for jobs listings. I'm really stoked to see your channel pulling through.
Your sense of humor and honesty is what makes your content so watchable. You're both crazy and wise!
I especially like rule #4.
As a long time viewer, your open discussion about how you handle your feelings about your channel and your videos have always been really interesting and inspiring.
Lmao I paused to read the joke, but it was still funny 😂
I cannot pause it at the correct time. It disappears too quickly!
@@yvonnetak1240 if you're on desktop you can pause the video nearby and then use "," and "." to move frame by frame.
It was so difficult to stop it at the right place, but my life would have been incomplete had I not found out what was written.
i couldnt really put into words why i came back to your channel, cause i with you from nearly the beginning till probably 2013 and just recently ive come back. Your doing a great job, keep at it!
What a wonderfully informative, entertaining and inspiring video. I hope this comment displays my true authenticity accurately, when ( I ) say thank you for the affirmation of process and technique. Giving me hope for the continued pursuit of being a content creator. Well done!
(Edited moments later because of one letter typo.( I ) )
This is so profound. Thank you 🙏🏾
super early... you're awesome btw craig
😊😊😊😊
Not worrying about the time is something I need to keep reminding myself. Don't have a schedule and been fitting in video making when I can. I have a purpose with my videos and its fun. Thanks for sharing, needed to hear this.
I'm RSVP-ing early to the Wheezy Waiter 1 Million Subscribers Party in July :)
I paused the video to read that and it wasn't even a joke!
That's why i like you
Ugh, I did too...stupid non joke
I thought Swagbucks was a parody of TH-cam influencer marketing at first.
So true my friend. So true. Thank you for an honest helpful youtuber helper video.
You probably realized this already but, those four rules are actually just generally good Rules For Life.

Been a long time viewer for at least a decade, no joke, and it's been great to see your shooting up in success! Recently had 2 friend of mine mention your videos out of the blue. Great to see you getting the recognition you deserve!
Intermittent humor is why I watch your great videos. It's fun.
I'm a new fan, arrived MAYBE last October or last June (2018) I have no idea. But I am so happy to have found you. Thank you for not hitting delete/backing down!
1) HAVE A PURPOSE
2) EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE THAT PURPOSE WITH EVERYTHING YOU DO
3) BE AUTHENTIC
4) DON'T WORRY ABOUT TIME

@@hamletfisherman5740 thanks
Gratz.
Just found your channel, "stopped sugar for a month" title caught my attention
These rules are great and I hope others find them useful. I definitely ascribed to that less than five minutes long vid rule, mostly because vlogbrothers success with it. Also because I know how reluctant I am to watch any videos that are over 5 minutes long unless I trust the creator... Like you. That said, I'm really enjoying your new vids! Nice to see ya on my feed more again.
I noticed that you're videos have become similar to those "self-experimental POV essay doc" channels (Matt D'Avella comes to mind). But, they still maintain that Wheezy Waiter Style of humour
I like your style and I'll probably keep watching your videos until...well...
@@wheezywaiter Jim Jarmusch once said something like: true originality is non-existent but authenticity is invaluable
I just found you TODAY and have been bingeing you all day! Love it. I am glad that your current wiki entry is wrong and that you are back.
The Shane Dawson Era of Wheezy
Yes we want more montages!!!
I been watching since the beginning of your channel and honestly at one point I stopped watching until a few months later when you showed up in my recommendations and I been back watching you vids ever since. I love that you were able to turn around your channel as the platform grew and changed
I love your pointless poignant self, Craig :P
I've been subbed since maybe 2016, so I'm fairly late to the party. I sub to very few blog-style channels (I'll have to check, but this may be the only one). I enjoy yours because your content is informational and your style is entertaining. It's like having a thoughtful conversation with an intelligent friend, even the completely silly stuff. So in this brief span, thanks for all of the thought-provoking fun.
You forgot about Rule Nr. 5: Get yourself an Ada. She’s the cutest.
craig, this video was dope as hell. i'm glad that you're doing this for your channel. i've been following your channel for like almost ten years? so, i've definitely seen the evolution. but i'm glad that you're doing things that make you happy :3 cuz it's showing!
"Don't worry about time"
Makes exactly 10 min video.
I think he meant it as " don't worry about not uploading every day." Which is great, because it is hard to keep up with daily uploads.😫
Bang on! I love Wheezy, but I found the fact that this video hit the 10 minute mark somewhat... algorithmic?
But isn't the video 17 seconds longer than that?
nakyer Interesting, I paused it at exactly 10:00 to come down to the comments.
Well he's not an idiot !!!
I started watching back in 2009-2010ish. Watched weekly until about 2015. Just found your channel again a few months ago. You’re very entertaining, keep doing what you’re doing!
Rule #1: Waste people's time to ensure the video's over 10 minutes long.
Rule #2: Keep cutting your video to song/movie clips like BabbleTop
Rule number three will shock you: I used BuzzFeed video titles for the last 6 months (Here's what happened)
Rule #4: Make arbitrary lists! Bonus tip #1: Make lists within those lists. Listception! Inceplist?
/End Sarcasm
Seriously though, I can't believe this guy was recycling the same intro, outro and inside jokes for the last 6 years (up until July 2018) and wondered why his channel was declining.
