Dear it is because Moissanite is very much a Diamond, CVD, HPHT and moissanites , all are real diamonds. the slight addition of silica in carbon (as in moissanite diamond) gives it a little more glitter and it becomes more beautiful than its counterpart earth mined. Dont get confused. Time has gone when there used to an only one type of diamond. Now there are four types of diamonds, earth mined, and three lab created, cvd, HPHT and Moissi. So relax and chill. Lab created Diamonds have in reality killed the Blood diamond industry, in simple words.
Tester is actually an idiot. A rock would test as a diamond as he didnt conduct the test correctly. Also the rate at which you get a pass can be used to detect a mossanite.

I love my moissanite ring! I wear it 24/7 and it’s never without its sparkle. It’s sooo clear too and I’m constantly getting compliments on it, even after I proudly tell them it isn’t a diamond.
Dear Rose. who told you that Moissi is not a Diamond.?.. It is very much a Diamond as other CVD and HPHT lab created diamonds are. new D color vvs1 Moissi are also created through CVD and HPHT tech. So that's why all moissi pass all tests like their other counterparts. don't be a victim of century old blood diamond trillion dollar industry's propaganda.
Dear All, I have studied Diamonds for years now and i Have many. You know why big companies (Mafias) are trying hard to declare a Moissanite ( so called a fake diamond or a simulant etc?). Let me tell you few points out of my research. 1. Moissanite is very much a Diamond, a mined diamond is 99 percent Carbon and man made Moissanite diamond is 92 percent carbon. when created with CVD technique its 6h hexagonal structure is 18 percent harder than a 4h carbon structure . because of the silica presence ,Moissanite diamond shines more. reflects light much better and slight weight difference between carbon and sic is only because of silica presence. 2. Blood diamonds have a bloody history, therefore there have been a lot of controversies and disliking amongst the general public. 3. When the Lab diamond (Moissanite, CVD HPHT etc all are diamonds) were successfully developed, these mafias of mined diamond industry fell into shit. their hundreds of billions of glittering industry came to a fall. so, they had to have a bundle of lame excuses to confuse the people for man made diamonds. 4. Latest D color vvs1 Moissanite diamonds are also being made through CVD and HPFT, so where is the difference?. 5. There is only a difference of origin, one came from the stars and replicated by the men. the other came from deep within the earth. 6. The mafias are still trying their best but are unable to convince the public, but they have given a boom to another industry (Diamond Testers)...7. self created fairies like passing on a diamond as heirloom are disgusting and old gone stories, need not believe in mafias adverts. Reality is that Man has very well made a Diamond that is much better in 4Cs and beauty. Just imagine that the equivalent of a Today's lab created 3 carat D vvs1 Moissanite diamond would cost how much?. The mafia is not gonna give you the same quality less than 100-300 k Dollars. 8. carbon will pass all the tests, news paper, fog, heat , scratch etc etc so the moissanite diamond, because it is very much carbon. have you not seen bII, CVD and HPFT lab created Diamond reading as Moissanites on many Multi and moissanite testers? . why is it so?, why there is no difference?. Because they all are lab created Diamonds, you call it a Moissanite or CVD or FTHT or what so ever, they all are Diamonds but the mafias is deadly against the Lab created diamonds. So thats why , they will keep giving new turns. 9. Time is not far when the Mined Diamond mafia will see its end our Beloved planet will take a sigh of relief. Thanks for your understanding.
This is why I told my boyfriend I want moissanite. It is almost as hard a a diamond, very beautiful, scratch resistant, and won't cloud or tarnish, so it'll last a lifetime. It is significantly cheaper and ethical. I will never go back to diamonds. They are such a scam and extremely unethical.
I agree about the unethical business of diamonds but lab grown are ok. I have a real dimond ring i never use because i am too sacred to lose it I ordered a moissanite i cant wait to get it
Why the white gloves? The cheap tester says your hand must contact the metal strip on the back, which you would not do wearing gloves. Also, he did not change the setting of the tester (on the back) for the different size stones. Did that make a difference in the testing?
Something you guys are missing is “rate of heat transference” is just as important as the amount. These testers’ primary gauge is for amount of heat but the indicators also show something else that’s very important and that’s the rate of heat transference. While the moissanite can transfer heat similar to a diamond, the rate of that transfer is slightly slower and you can see this in the tests. A diamond tester increasing to diamond at a slower than expected rate generally indicates moissanite. It’s something a person who tests these every day would be able to use as an additional level info. Unfortunately, the customer will see diamond on the tester and think it’s a diamond. In all honesty, any customer can also be shown this rate difference as well and be able to gain the trust to believe you on the test results if you were to show them with your own diamonds vs moissanite gems you have in stock in comparison to theirs. You almost cannot mistake how quickly a diamond will set off the tester vs moissanite, regardless of it indicating diamond for both. Pay closer attention to the details as that’s where the truth lies. 👍
What does that matter as far as durability? That's what most people want to know will this beautiful gemstone stand up to wearing everyday. This tester will show you, yes it does. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me.
I love my moissanite ring. It sparkles more than my diamond ring. And it’s a flawless DEF color vs my diamond that is only a vs2 and H in color because I couldn’t afford a DEF flawless diamond. But even if you compare both flawless moissy and diamond, the moissanite will still have more sparkle. Moissies are the way to go today. The only thing that makes diamonds special, is the thought that it’s so old and the natural process that it went through. But then the beauty of the moissanite is LITERALLY out of this world.
@Haroldas Giedraitis lol it's not fake it's a real stone made with real life properties that are found on this Earth. Dude know before u talk. Diamods are not ment for resell unless if it's a collectors diamonds which cost in the hundred thousands to millions. It's prefence it like choosing between Pepsi and coke.
@Haroldas Giedraitis You can dump your cash into a worthless diamond if you want - me - I'll buy a moissanite and keep my money in the bank making more money for me!.
In all due respect, the instructions for the Diamond Selector II were not followed. First, you must use bare hands to complete the electric conductivity panel on the back side of the device. Second, you must come straight down on the diamond, rather than at an angle. Third, you need to 'calibrate' the bars to the diamond size. Just sayin'
It's fascinating how many jewelers don't even know how to use the $10 device. I've never seen anyone rub the stone with the tip. The manuals say 90 deg onto the stone without pressure. It is suppose to measure how fast heat dissipates. He is taking the temperature of the stone far away from the spot heated. ha-ha
Yeah it's surprising how many people don't even care to read the directions of a diamond tester or even try to figure out how they work simple answers that can save you a ton of money if your in the diamond business
I had a jeweler test my stone. He had 40+ years as a jeweler. He used a diamond tester, loop and a torch. Apparently when heat is applied the moissanite will turn green. He did all of that and said, yes this is a diamond. He offered me $900.00 for the stone. Guess what? It was a moissanite. That is why they had to invent a moissanite tester. All moissanites are not created equal as well, just like diamonds. Some are very hard to distinguish between.
The info you got is a Half truth! What makes a diamond valuable is the rarity color cut clarity a rare diamond can fetch you millions those tiny little stones they put in every ring or chain is what you are speaking about the quality isn't special it isn't rare it wont command a price. If your diamond is GIA certified you will be paid based on the value. This is why jewelers make miners rich and wealthy people buy from jewelers and sell if they are in need of emergency cash. If it wasn't valuable they would of been all broke.
but your suppose to have your fingers touching the metal on the back of the tester~ and to be held straight up and down, it uses your body heat with the tester to determine the heat sig from stones.
I have both and feel no different in whatever one im wearing so with that being said I'm definitely not gonna be buying anymore over priced diamonds,it's all in the mind
Cheap detectors are cheap for a reason. Best way to determine moissanite is to scope it and look for facet junction doubling and threadlike inclusions.
Dear, do people buy a Diamond for inclusions?...if inclusions are so important than one should buy inclusions instead a diamond. sic is one of the most common inclusion in an earth mined diamond. so best is to buy a sic, and save money. Otherwise Moissi is very much a diamond like other cvd or HPHT. with a slight addition of silica in carbon to get the better and little more shine. Moissi is a Diamond but not a blood diamond...This is the only diff.
I bought a diamond tester years ago because my diamond engagement ring somehow had allegedly cracked, so the jewelry store I bought it from sent it out for replacement. The stone looked ok to me, it tested ok which was what I was concerned about. Found out years later when I went to resell, they put in an extremely low quality stone and could not get even a quarter of the money back out of it. I took a $1450 loss. This time round I got a moissanite stone, and I'm hoping the tester actually will show the proper heat conduction so that I know I'm actually getting moissanite and not CZ, since apparently I'm terrible at telling D: I did use it on a couple rings I have I know are CZ to see the heat transference comparison on the tester and they absolutely test nowhere near diamond. So the Diamond Selector II seems to do alright at least for the average person. Side note with Diamond Selector II, you're supposed to touch the heat plate on the back with your bare hands I believe and same with the jewelry you're testing.
I got the engagement ring back from my ex years ago and tried to resell it. I couldn't get my investment back either. The whole jewelry industry is full of scammers. Brands like Cartier are overpriced but at least you'll get half your money back on resell.
📌 6:55 Calibrate is to adjust the volume according to the chart on back to get an accurate reading. Leaving it on for a minute gives it time to warm up. By the way, you didn't calibrate it. You also used it wrong. It's supposed to be pointing directly at the stone, not at an angle. And don't rub it around; touch the tip to the stone at a square angle and leave it still so it can do it's job.
I bought a ring at a store, took it to another store for sizing and was told it was not diamonds, it was moissanite via the tester. Two jewelers told me that. The ring is only 700.... but no one will size it because they think it's moissanite. I have no idea, so I returned the ring to the big box retailer. So, how can i find out if it's true? Send the ring somewhere??
If you shine one beam of light at a diamond the diamond will output 1 beam of light , if you shine 1 beam of light at an moissanite it will output 2 beams.
Moissanite is not fake diamond tho. It's not a diamond at all. It is an entirely different stone. It just looks like a diamond and that sets off people spending on actual diamonds lol.
Michael, you have taught me so much about stones! The more I learn, I find the less I know. My beautiful 2 carat center stone from my wedding set disappeared one evening after dinner. I don’t wear it at home at all so who knows..l replaced it with a CZ, but it’s not the same. I am not able to work anymore and I do not want my hubby to have to come up with enough to cover the cost of a 2 carat nice diamond. Moissanite sounds like the best thing since CZ’s! I truly enjoyed your demonstration and also have really listened closely to other posts comparing the two.
Good video! I have found jewelry, n loose stones I have 4 loose stones one of them is 3carat, 1carat,1/carat, 1carat, n an earring with two stones, n an antique petite wedding ring with a small stone in it, I do metal detecting, n find a lot stuff, ive never taken my jewelry to get checked, I probably got cubic zirconia, alot people have told me I have diamonds in my jewelry but I doubt it.
It doesnt test as a diamond on the multi testers. This guy is an IDIOT WHO IS MISINFORMING EVERYONE BECAUSE HE CAN'T READ! If you read the basic instructions on the tester it tells you, you must place your hand on the metal testing tray to get a proper testing result... which it will give!
The industry is smart. They are already pushing the..”natural is better” bullshit to turn u away from lab diamonds. So what they did was the lab diamonds have some sort of luminescence in which when saturated with UV light it will continue to glow. That shit was done on purpose. Now the jewellers are not buying lab diamonds from people trying to sell them, they needed a way to distinguish lab from natural...this is how they did it. It’s called a light box. Greed is a bitch.
I like how every broke niqqa wants to make himself feel better about buying a fake diamond by shitting on the people who bought real ones. Not my fault youre broke.
The Diamond selector 2 instructions state that your bare finger should be placed on the metallic plate in the back of the device. You were wearing gloves. Does that not make a difference.
Might I point out that your sliding the tip against the diamond causing friction which is heat so since they test heat conductivity all your test in this video are invalid
I see him shaking the needle conductor on the stones surface, doesn’t that cause heat from friction? If so, would it be safe to say that this demonstration failed?
If people cant tell it shouldn't matter, seems like a risky investment especially these days, thankyou for your video. chasing old diamonds in antique rings now, lost interest in new rings
I agree but just because they look antique doesn’t mean your buying a diamond , they have companies out there cutting old mine cuts with this new type of Moissanite , which is 9.5 on the moshs hardness scale and a lower electrical conductivity then most Moissanite out there. Most of the Moissanite being sold is the higher electrical conductivity type, only type lla or type llb diamonds are conductors of electricity ,which can test as Moissanite? You have to know what is diamond and what is Moissanite with only a good eye and 10 x loupe. Be careful only buy with a certificate GIA or AGS. Or find a trusted diamond trader. I’m a collector I have some Moissanite pieces largest is 5 ct blue color, the blue color looks like a real blue colored diamond but the inclusions told the truth , I bought it as mossanite as I did my other ones, bought a 1.5 for $30 and a 1.7 for $35, it’s really poor quality, and I bought a 1.5 ct moissanite it was the new type it was a E color no inclusions passed as a diamond on every tester I could find. One day while having it tested, just as I did at every jeweler before I just went in with this beautiful 1.5 carat ring , never said diamond sapphire or moissanite , it passed as a diamond, and was offered money , I was offered $7500 cash once and $20000 on a trade in won’t mention stores name, Big large Diamond jewelry store, but I did tell them all it was Moissanite and it blew them away, and a few weeks later that Big jewelry store called me and asked if I still had that ring, I did and they offered me an offer I couldn’t refuse. This thing fooled 5 G** graduates that had been in business for 10 to 40 years, and many other business owners ,who all told me they need know 100% they aren’t buying what I was showing them, I did tell them it’s a crime to sell a Moissanite as a Diamond and even have them sign a stated fact to the best of their knowledge what they are selling is a diamond.Call the police have them waiting outside, with a copy of what they sold and signed and the cash, but understand the person might not know, so my opinion is when in doubt throw it out.
I found a fantastic jeweler, in my tiny hometown of Lakeport California!! I have a collection of gems to be set, or wire wrapped. I tried to set, failed miserably!!
Imagine buying natural diamonds at an absurd price because most of the diamonds are inside a vault so they (the company that has the diamonds) can fuck with the supply and demand.
It's not like it used to be. When DeBeers had a monopoly on diamonds they decided the price, not so much the market. In the late 20th century other diamond deposits were found, the one in Canada being the first, DeBeers lost their monopoly.
No gloves! Supposed to have hand skin contact with tester. Also you are supposed to hold the tester straight down on the table of the diamond. ALSO you failed to use the setting wheel to prepare the tester. It has different settings for the particular size of the diamond as well as the room temperature. Reading the instructions that came with the tester will be a big help in using it properly. WHY are you rubbing the diamond with the tester!!!? LOL Geeze man. You need to read the instructions!
He is not touching his skin to the tester metal grips and is not touching his skin to the metal plate. This completely changes the conductivity of the gem. A jeweler will know immediately because they will use the proper testing techniques
That's actually not true.
True, you need to look at the stone through a loupe, but then you also have to know what you're seeing. Oh, and it IS "loupe" other than "loop". I think loupes were first invented in France, hence the spelling.
Everyone says Moissanite is a gemstone of its own but let’s be honest. Majority of ppl that purchase moissy are really trying to pass it off as a diamond. It will be hard to identify if you stay in the 1 carat mark but any bigger the “rainbow effect” is a dead giveaway it’s a moissy
I use this method to show the difference all the time. SO MANY CUSTOMERS come to me with stones they paid THOUSANDS for and when I do the demo they freak to learn the truth. I have not seen a real diamond that EVER lags or gives a "weak" test
My diamond selector 2 is picking going to diamond on the sapphire crystal on my watch. I start it at 2 from the information of the chart on the tester.
Moissonite has only a hardness of 9.2, whereas diamond is the hardest substance known to man and has a hardness on 10 on the Mohs scale. They also have different refractive indexes. The refractive index, or R.I. as it is referred to in the trade, is the amount a beam of light is refracted, (bent), as it passes through the stone.

WOW...now...i have to determine which machine to buy...those fake diamonds really throw you off.....bummer. keep up the great work...thank you again for your hard work and time doing this video...bless your heart.
You can only test diamonds with a diamond tester, otherwise they would call them gem testers. For other stones you need a fair amount of knowledge and some different instruments to test them.
Hello! My name is Alex and I am with GemOro Superior instruments. Thank you for taking the time to review our PRO-D 2 Tester! We see that you are comparing our oldest tester model (which has been discontinued for over 3 years) to newer and more sophisticated technology based testers. You stated in your video that the testers you are displaying are the ones utilized for "everyday use for the jeweler for a quick glance to test something out right away" is a false statement on our products behalf- seeing that the tester has not been manufactured for years. If you were planning on comparing a GemOro tester to the 2 other testers you were videoing, the best model to compare would either be our UltraTester 3+ or Testerossa. Both testers have the latest Diamond and Moissanite testing technology as we partnered with Charles and Colvard, the creators of Moissanite, when developing this advanced technology. Unfortunately, your video does not give the public an accurate representation of the latest Diamond and Moissanite testing technology available- since the age of the testers you are comparing vary greatly. If you are interested in comparing compatible technology, I am more than happy to send you a sample of our latest tester for you to try out. We kindly ask that you explain the discrepancies of your video in your description section to avoid giving the public a false understanding of Diamond and Moissanite testing technology. Thank you and have a nice day. -GemOro Superior Instruments
Hi Alex! Thanks for the response and the informative update on your technology. I appreciate it. Just to be clear, this video was not intended to provide a false understanding of GemOro's instruments or any of the technologies in the video for that matter. We purchased all 3 of these testers at approximately around the same time (2-3 years ago) and we decided to make a video with them. The idea was that simple. We are not sponsored nor paid by any of these companies. This video's purpose is to show our audience that moissanite may be tested as "moissanite" and many times as "diamonds" which is highly dependent on the tester. Per my personal experience with the average retail jewelry store, most do not upgrade their testers until the previous one gives out. Therefore, many jewelry businesses may have testers ranging in various ages which is more than likely a closer depiction of what the market will encounter. Our audience can find this out for themselves when taking a moissanite to their local jewelry stores and have it tested by one of their professional testers. Again, I want to emphasize that this video is of the testers that we have here and was not intended to compare GemOro's most up to date testers. We do not normally mention what is good, bad or better as we will typically try our best to stay un-bias when possible with these videos. Thanks for your offer. I may take you up on it and use your more up to date technology should I decide to make a similar video at a later point and time. I look forward to meeting you one day at one of the jewelry trade shows if you are ever out there. Have a good one! -Michael
Very interesting video. I wonder how many un-experienced pawn shop workers paid out to customers selling moissanite jewelry but passed as diamonds. 🤔🤔🤔
About 7 years ago I would buy moissanites very cheap if you get them used and mix them with real diamonds as I started a wholesale business in CO I would take a trip to Las Vegas and unload about 8k worth of inventory mixed moissanite and diamonds and make quite a large amount of profit doing that every pawn broker in the chain locations didn't know anything about moissanite as it was relatively new and they had basic testers like the first one he used in this video but yes in short pawn shops Jewelers and everybody involved buying moissanite as diamonds lost a shit ton of money
@randomlybruh I did for about 3 years I would make a stop at Vegas worked evertime until all companies and corporations invested in moissanite/diamond testers meaning they test for them both simultaneously now so I just buy natural and lab grown diamonds now

And.... what's your point
@@abdulqadirmohamed3316 that there was a difference between each detector. Had you read the comment you would’ve known what we were talking about. 🤡
@@williamlackey123 still your point is invalid

I got your point, it took far more longer for the tester to hit 9 when testing moissanite

💯 this was annoying as anything to watch
I had a jeweler test my stone. He had 40+ years as a jeweler. He used a diamond tester, loop and a torch. Apparently when
heat is applied the moissanite will turn green. He did all of that and said, yes this is a diamond. He offered me $900.00 for the stone. Guess what? It was a moissanite. That is why they had to invent a moissanite tester. All moissanites are not created equal as well, just like diamonds. Some are very hard to distinguish between.
Why would somebody buy a diamond again lol.
Cause it has value.
Progress Kid
Go buy a diamond and try to resell it. Let me know how that works out for you
The info you got is a Half truth!
"Rarity" "rare"
See what you did there? Surely you don't think diamonds are an investment?
I cant afford investment diamonds but there are investment diamonds the 1 percent do buy and ads to their net worth
It seemed in all cases the tester took longer to decide that moisinite was a diamond vs the diamond which was identified immediately.
That is what I noticed as well. Which is good to take into considering. Bigger stones will also be easier to look at and identify.
It’s actually sped up / edited when he tests the real Diamond. It’s actually the same speed
Why did you do a screen cut when testing the diamond. I think the meter goes up faster than it does when testing the moss.
but your suppose to have your fingers touching the metal on the back of the tester~ and to be held straight up and down, it uses your body heat with the tester to determine the heat sig from stones.

Stfu
No, its cheap since the technology to test for conductivity is extremely cheap lol

But still read as diamond im confused about presidium tester whats the use of having moissanite tester if it read also read as diamonds???
I bought a ring at a store, took it to another store for sizing and was told it was not diamonds, it was moissanite via the tester. Two jewelers told me that. The ring is only 700.... but no one will size it because they think it's moissanite. I have no idea, so I returned the ring to the big box retailer. So, how can i find out if it's true? Send the ring somewhere??
Even if it is moissanite…that still shouldn’t effect them being able to size it. That seems ridiculous.
If you shine one beam of light at a diamond the diamond will output 1 beam of light , if you shine 1 beam of light at an moissanite it will output 2 beams.
What's the point of the last one then, it even has a Moissanite rating on it, meaning it should be able to tell
Moissanite is not fake diamond tho. It's not a diamond at all. It is an entirely different stone. It just looks like a diamond and that sets off people spending on actual diamonds lol.
What about white sapphires can it test for white sapphires they look like diamonds as well

To test a raw diamond do you have to Polish first or it can test the raw mineral.
With moissanite, can it cut glass?

The industry is smart. They are already pushing the..”natural is better” bullshit to turn u away from lab diamonds. So what they did was the lab diamonds have some sort of luminescence in which when saturated with UV light it will continue to glow. That shit was done on purpose. Now the jewellers are not buying lab diamonds from people trying to sell them, they needed a way to distinguish lab from natural...this is how they did it. It’s called a light box. Greed is a bitch.

Buying gems at retail prices is not an investment at all. It was never meant to be.
So how do jewellers know? Do they get tricked ?
Thanks a lot, surprised why people waste more money on Diamonds if Moissanite seems same and same properties!!!🥰👌👌👌
maybe because there not the same and people want diamonds not another stone
I know on the cheaper model, that light bar should be at 3 before you test. And the video seems to be setting at 1.

What if the diamond is already on a jewelry can I tear it that way or does the diamond have to be taken out?
I noticed the only difference is the Moissanite took longer to test as a diamond. So really....you'd have to look at it through a loop.

That moissanite is hitting way harder than the diamonds 💎 ✨
On everything
Moissonite has only a hardness of 9.2, whereas diamond is the hardest substance known to man and has a hardness on 10 on the Mohs scale. They also have different refractive indexes. The refractive index, or R.I. as it is referred to in the trade, is the amount a beam of light is refracted, (bent), as it passes through the stone.

-Michael
