Such an impressive choir, wonderful Bass section! Bravo, guys. The Sopranos kick butt too. This performance has the most stunning crescendos/decrescendos I have heard in years. Wow.
When I need to destress I pull this performance up, close my eye, and feel the pent-up tightness drain from my body and soul. Gorgeous. The intonation and blend of voices of this particular group of singers is like non other. Thank you!
Dr. Hightower is a phenomenal conductor and this is a stunning rendition of sure on this shining night. You can really hear the influence from paul salamunovich in the way Dr. Hightower shapes his phrases, especially in the second verse when the men sing "all is healed, all is health"
This is the best performance of this work I've seen. Too often it can end up sounding choppy instead of flowing as a continuous sound. The phrasing and dynamics here are perfect!
One of my favourite pieces! and executed superbly. Director, choristers and accompanist functioning as one beautiful organism. This is choral performance at its best.
Having given a constructive criticism below, I now have to say that I think that this particular year of ensemble singers has to be at the top ranking on earth.
you prolly dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been streaming with my brother during the lockdown :)
Such a beautiful performance is this. The accompanist balances with the choir, the singers shape their phrases expressively, the director gives clear gestures to guide them in his unfussy interpretation, and one of the best professional recordings on YT of this work.
was looking over some of the comments and came across someone who seems to want to credit the choir and slam the pianist. obvously this person does not understand anything about music. the pianist is playing the piece as written. and doing it quite well. plus there is a conductor so how would it be possible for the pianist to not be with the choir? if you are going to fault the pianist then you must also have something to say about the conductor? but to add, this may be an acapella choir but this piece was not performed acapella. this barber (samuel barber) piece is one of my favourites. absolutely, stunnungly gorgeous piece of music.
have just come across new information. there are two arrangements of this piece. a samuel barber arrangement and a morton lauridsen arrangement. the morton lauridsen arrangement is the one i have heard and it has been accredited to samuel barber. total confusion. the samuel barber piece is wonderful (love barber's adagio for strings) but the morton lauridsen piece is absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. the texas boys choir do an amazing job. one of my favourites.
Disappointing! Choir is lovely...pianist sounded like he was doing his own thing. The pianist needs to learn chamber-music skills for voice and choral singing. The beat occurs on the initial vowel not the initial consonant. He's consistently ahead of the choir members who are in precision together. Pianist, learn to LISTEN, know the text so that you are in ensemble with everyone. The Nordic choir and pianist have it wonderfully together, also conducted by maestro Hightower.

I love this ensemble. They have really captured this beautiful song.
When gifted people make music seem simple and Beautiful we are transported to a better place. God's gift to us all Music. Thank you

Really interesting phrasing, and I love that it keeps moving. Beautiful job, and wonderful direction.

Absolutely stunning!!!
This is surely the most captivating rendition of this beautiful choral work. Kudus to this choir and a huge thumbs up for the director !
One of my favorite pieces of music!
I would love to hear this arranged for an orchestra and choir
Wonderful ❤
Lauridsen's work is stunning!

there is also a Randall Stroope arrangement. I have sung Lauridsen and Stroope, not Barber. Both were gorgeous!
Wowww soooo beautiful!!!
also, the tempo is a tad faster than what i like but still well done. tempo is such a subjective thing so maybe never mind on that.
beautiful performance 😭❤️ can i listen this performance on apple music?
Quiero ver la canción con letra

He's playing way too loud
