  • Momotaro is one of the most well-respected denim brands in existence today. This is the brand that gets the nod of approval from even the biggest denim snobs, yet keep some models relatively affordable. If you’re someone who is looking for that next level beyond Gustin, Bravestar, etc. this may be just what the doctor ordered.
The name Momotaro comes from Japanese folklore, and is the story of a boy who’s born from a giant peach, then comes to earth as the son of an elderly couple. He revives their sense of youth and encourages them to follow their dreams. Momotaro began in 2005 and is actually a sub brand of Japan Blue Company. There are a few different labels that Momotaro uses with different price points and features such as the Copper Label, the Vintage Label, Gold Label, and the Battle Label which we’ll be looking at today.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

I've commented before on other vids. I'm 40 and blue collar. Work 60 hrs a week doing QC at a steel mill in NW Pennsylvania. I'm single the last few years with no kids and really no debt to speak of. Its nice. Used to sink all my free cash into my girls debts and closet.
Now that I've been living off the plantation and "free" the last few years, I can afford nicer clothes and things for myself. This channel introduced me to the Filson brand. Thank you!
I bought a pair of Momos about a year ago and also some PBJs. Worth every penny imo. I only really wear them on weekends at social gatherings. For everyday work wear, I don Carhartt or Levi's etc.
Do I think $300 to $3000 is too much for a pair of jeans? No. No way. Not for Momos. I've gotten so many compliments from the ladies and even the guys on my Momos. One guy went out and bought his own pair because of mine.. Its true. Girls go crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.
I take such good care of these jeans, they'll last me the rest of my life. I'm sure I could probably resell them one day as well if I ever wanted....
Thanks for the content here. 👍

@@CarlMurawski Foundry. ACP in Meadville, PA. We are contracted to produce parts by Paccar for semi-trucks globally predominantly, though we also make parts for Catarpillar and John Deere as well. We literally got purchased this week by a much larger American company called Grede, so soon we will be ramping up to do automotive castings as well.
Yes, it can be wild over there. Its a real honest days work. The used/burnt sand from the casting molds is very fine and covers literally everything in the facility in a layer of black dust. Everything. We all look like we came out of a coal mine at shifts end. Black boogers are just normal. Masks only help so much.
So yeah, splurging on a great pair of jeans so I look/feel good when I go out occasionally is just how I reward/invest in myself. Slowly building a stylish wardrobe over here, with help from this channel. I call it Blue Collar Sheek. 👍

I've spent a lot on Japanese denim this year...
    •Momotaro GTB 10oz shorts: 7/10
I like them. They're well built, the denim is nice and soft, the stitching is strong and clean.
What I hadn't considered is that living in NY I'll only wear them for about two months a year so they're not going onto fade too much and the softness will means soft fades. They're dark indigo, so they're hot in the sun. They're also cut a bit shorter than I'm used to.
    •Samurai jeans S3000vx 25oz 6/10
The denim is beautiful, the hardware is interesting, the pockets are lined... samurai was showing off with these.
Absolute leg breakers. The build quality is immaculate, but they should come with warning labels. The denim is brutally abrasive, particularly behind the knees and ankles. They're very stiff even with wear, to the point that I'm having a hard time breaking them in. I hot soaked them to try to shrink them a bit, but I don't have enough rear to fill the seat causing a bit of a diapered look. The seat feels a bit like having a turtles shell on my butt.
    Studio D'Artisan kasezome sashiko 9/10
Made from SD's sashiko fabric instead of denim, these barely resemble jeans. I wear them when I want to be a bit more dressed up or want to stand out.
They have plastic (I think?) buttons that have leather reinforcement which I like.
My only complaint is how they fit *me* . They're a little snug in the thighs making it hard to access my pockets.
    Japan blue J405 'circle' 10/10
My favorite pair. Comfortable from day one, but ridged enough for crisp fades. These are seriously under appreciated. Theyre dark indigo fading to a bright electric blue. They're a bit too warm to wear during the hottest parts of summer but they're not a winter only pair.

Nice review - pretty spot on, imo. I've a pair of 10oz Copper label Momotaro jeans that I wear in the hot and humid summer months and like them a lot; just a bit less "flashy" then the GTW stripes. The softness of the cotton is very nice. I wore them yesterday, and I wore my Levi made and crafted 501s today - I like the Levis, but prefer the Momotaro jean fabric and some of the nice elements such as the stitching, rivets, pocket lining, and lower rise. Something that might upset some folks is that Momotaro and Japan Blue have small pockets front and back; too small if you like to fit much in your pockets...

I did not search out this topic And at 59 years old and up until the past 3 months of my life had purchased nothing but Levi’s 501’s exclusively! Long story short I a friend of mine bought some Target brand jeans and then about a month ago I bought some Wranglers 13MWZ. Both are what I’d call bargain brands at $20 and $30 a pair respectively. The verdict is I like them both. But I do still need to wear them in some before I can say I like them better than 501’s. Yeah, I’ve never understood the premium jean industry as jeans for me are everyday work or play or get incredibly dirty clothing. I can’t imagine taking jeans off to put something else on to do dirty work. Just doesn’t compute. But this was interesting to watch how what I’d call “Martians” live.

I guess it all depends on a person’s finances and the “feel good” factor. I enjoy wearing nice service boots and I can afford them. No one notices what brand they are, but I enjoy wearing the more expensive ones because they make me feel good. So that’s how I justify the cost. It’s not because I’m out to impress anybody or that I’m into fashion. That’s not the crowd I hang with. Right now, spending $300 or more on a pair of jeans doesn’t meet my “feel good” criteria. But I’m not judging anyone who does if they can afford them and it makes them feel good. After all, a year ago I never thought I’d spend over $700 for a pair of Vibergs.

For my right now, if I'm going to be spending over $200 on a pair of jeans, they have to be custom. Most of the time I end having to get stock jeans tailored to fit me well. My thighs and butt usually would require me to size up 2-3 sizes in off the rack jeans so custom jeans are almost a must at this point.

I personally think $300 for a pair of jeans is way too much. Granted, I work from home and when I go out, it's not to get noticed but to go to the kids softball game, home depot, or to go out for dinner because we are too tired to cook that night. Nothing I do warrants a pair of jeans that cost more than $50, so $300 is too rich for my blood. Especially since they'll just get ice cream, soda, etc. on them.
If I were single and living in the city and went out with my friends a lot... maybe I'd splurge on a pair, but even then I'd probably feel stupid spending that kind of money on pants.
For reference, I live south of Cleveland, so San Fran/NYC prices boggle my mind anyway.

Hope your curiosity peaks and you catch a pair at $200-$240 during a sale. Let's overlook the denimhead angle and consider that what you get can literally last you for decades as your daily or most commonly worn jeans. The build quality, look and fit is really remarkable. But sure, a good pair of modern mass produced Levis still looks good too.

Raw denim are a real dark blue(or other color) that will ”bleed” color if you rub it, that’s probably the easiest way to know If it is raw or not. But like Carl wrote, it will most likely be stated.

People will spend $400 on boots, or $800 on a leather jacket so a $300 pair of jeans is doable if that's in your price range. I'd love to someday have a pair of higher end Japanese selvedge if I could afford it. Maybe Studio D'artisan or Momotaro just to experience them and the hype for myself. As of now I have some cheap $100 and less selvedge.

I don't know if you have an opinion on them and did I waste my money, but I personally I love them and the kevalr insert is great for when I finally get back into motorcycles. I rode a lot before I was 18, but after that it was all about cars, finishing school and then to work so I kinda forgot how great riding felt. $300 is on the very high end of any piece of clothing that will not last that long.
For boots, shoes, wallets, belts, jackets, or anything that you can have for 20+ years, then it is fine.
For stuff that will last a couple of years though, like shirts and pants, then no, that is at the maximum high limit, and the only reason I would even consider it is if the fit was perfect for me, if it was more durable than most of the competitors, and if it was made by a company that doesn't outsource (doesn't have to be America, but I want to know that they didn't cut that corner).
