The dude is stoked! Lol It's what makes him a better presenter. Passion about a topic makes anyone a good presenter. (It is what makes Richard Hammond maybe the best ever, his passion)
I clicked so I could get a bit of an overview of some of the Japanese brands, but man, your enthusiasm and excitement over these jeans is on another level. Now I really want these jeans...
I want to buy my first pair of nice denim. Your videos are super helpful and I love your positive energy and how excited you are about each aspect. Your passion for denim is infectious.
Full agree with the top brands , Iron Heart and Samurai, I have got both jeans in Tokyo , at Ueno district , where are the best denim shops. Nice heritage jeans from TCB . If you do further videos about brands, I would like to know something about Old Blue from Jakarta ,Indonesia. Thanks and best regards from Argentina.

Thanks for this video! Very helpful. I live in Japan and have been trying to get more in to the jeans here but it’s so overwhelming here. I’m going to try a couple of pairs from this video now after watching. Pure Blue Japan will be my next pair.
@@Fjorde In a roundabout sort of way I ended up here today after watching a show called The Bear. In the pilot episode a chef trades vintage selvege denim for cash so he can buy restaurant supplies. The character has cupboards full of old denim. All vintage Levi's I'm pretty sure. I wanted to know what selvege denim was. And through that I found Japanese denim too.
@@JB-1138 This is amazing! Sounds like a really interesting show. Yes, some vintage jeans can sell for thousands of dollars. Check this out: www.mercurynews.com/2018/05/26/dont-toss-those-old-jeans-125-year-old-levis-sell-for-nearly-100k/

great video - jeans can never be just jeans to me now. The enthusiasm and excitement in the video is so contagious it made me smile throughout - I loved the detail and informed comments of an aficionado.
I don’t usually hem my jeans. If I need to (usually to repair them), I would take them to a professional tailor with experience with heavyweight denim. 🙏🙏🙏
I agree. But I like that he expresses its personal opinion. Hard to get a top 6 “best” jean list, could have had Warehouse and Ooe on there, maybe CSF (which I’ll never have).
Great video. Your energy is always infectious. Just fyi I learned not too long ago that buttons like the ones on the TCBs are technically called braces. Suspenders use clips that clip in to a pant. Just sharing. :)
This is the first video I have watched on Japanese denim.I have been brought totally.A very impressive & informative video. Shall be now on the lookout for Japanese denim but wonder if it's available freely in India. 👍
I would recommend you to listen to the live stream some time back with Tsujita who heads TCB. He says that the obsession with “fades” is a western “fetish”. Japanese care more about other aspects like sanforized vs unsanforized, nep, warp and weft, left vs. right hand twill, one wash vs non wash, ounces, fit and feel and so much more. Judging jeans purely by fades is a myopic view of Japanese denim and frankly disrespectful of the manufacturer. Also there are several brands Iron Heart included that make non fade denim.
Thats an interesting post, I find myself in a strange spot. I am American, but do not care for the fading. I mainly just like selvedge denim because it is usually a dark wash, and most brands keep it simple and straight. Dark wash denim is one of the most stylish things to pair with most other outfits. I actually try to avoid the fading.
Not in the list but I'd highly recommend Denime, Full Count, or Warehouse. You can never go wrong with any from the #Osaka5. You might want to check Samurai or Tanuki from the list.
Not sure what you mean by 'top fader'. I presume you mean to say that they look the best when faded, or something like this, because I know that iron heart's flagship 21 oz indigo denim is notorious for how long it takes to fade.
So, where I live now, a pair of Levi’s on average, cost about $130. I would wear a couple of pairs on rotation, once every 7 to 14 days, for 3 to 4 years then replace them. How long should I expect a pair of jeans to last at $400? Or is it simply a status symbol? Ie., they are so expensive you rarely wear them (once or twice a year?) and thus, they last a lifetime? Experts… I have never heard of any of these brands. None the less, insightful.
Thank you. 🙏 You raise a very good point. Most Japanese jeans will indeed last longer as they are often made from thicker material that has a much higher level of quality control. So theoretically you have more material to wear though and less likely to include defects that would result in holes, seams unraveling etc. However, some Japanese jeans are made using expensive materials (natural indigo dye) and include appointments like sterling silver buttons (yes, really!). So then you leave the territory of casual fashion and enter the realm of "designer" clothing really. I would recommend this video that Business Insider created. They talk about where some of this cost comes from. m.th-cam.com/video/LS8wuGu9CUo/w-d-xo.html

Iron Heart at the store and can confirm that the quality is absolutely incredible - but way too heavy for me. Maybe someday... The other brands you mentioned in the video look very interesting!
Iron Hearts are currently my favorite after having owned Samurai, Momotaros, Pure Blue Japan, and Oni. We’re paying more than most for jeans. Iron Hearts makes the cost worth it with a nice thick fabric. Feels soft and luxurious despite how tough it is. Iron Hearts and Momotaros have an expensive look. Samurai Tanuki Oni can look underwhelming in real life particularly to the untrained eye. PBJ and Samurai have crazy fabrics and are great for denim nerds. Momotaros come with designer details the pink inseam stitching and loud back pocket stripes. Iron Heart details makes for a timeless Jean that can be worn at all ages. Momotaros great for 20s to early 30s. Can’t imagine them on a 50 year old
