      Honestly, got this from my OGs, best distressing comes from swimming in your denim. Do a beach first, then the pool. Don’t wash em for as long as possible.

    In June I travelled to japan and realized the world of Japanese denim apart from the song I got a pair of 17oz samurai’s and the whole experience was so cool getting them hemmed in the factory store in Osaka I never liked wearing jeans and it was kinda a “when in Rome” decision but slowly they’ve become my favorite pants and whenever I’m unsure about an outfit I start with them because there so surprisingly fun and comfortable to wear even for a heavy weigh. When I got them I didn’t understand the appeal to fading but the other day I notice them starting to fade around the pockets and ankles which was so strangely rewarding.

    Selvedge denim is really cool. I just found 3 pairs (2 pairs of Levi's Vintage Clothing 501's and 1 pair of APC's) at a Goodwill for $15 each. I've always liked the idea of selvedge denim fading over time but I've never really liked the color of raw unwashed denim. Luckily 2 of the 3 pairs fit me perfectly and it made me see that the fit of most selvedge denim I've tried on is really what has turned me away from them for so long. I'm gonna try wearing them everyday now and see how that goes. Dope video as always!

    6:00 This is a general principle that I base a lot of my purchase choices on. Other examples: High quality leather boots, cast iron cookware, solid-top acoustic guitars, just to name a few. There are so many examples of things that most people cheap out on, but end up paying more for in the long-run because of how often they have to replace them.

    Have done the same a few times, it's a fun process.
    The bummer with these brans is that they can be a bit tricky to find and you're almost forced to buy online, and the sizing be challenging as it differs from brand to brand.

    Really cool that there seemes to be renewed interest in selvedge denim. LVC (and others, of course) were IT during the late 2000s. Few people know: Steve Jobs rocked LVC denim during his most influential years. 2005-2007 a pair of 1955s, until late 2010 a pair of 1947s. He switched to a Made & Crafted model in 2011 and wore a regular 501 before his death. Don’t ask me how I know but it’s easy to spot if you were into that kind of thing then. You can also see his denim progress over time, especially his 55. He pretty much exclusively always wore one jeans at a time-a childhood habit probably.

    Great video! Another piece of advice I would offer is that if you are looking for a Japanese brand, getting them directly from Japan, like Hinoya or Rodeo Japan, as opposed to another retailer will save you 25-30% on cost, and their sizing charts are very accurate.

    I love the nep texture so much! I have a pair of LVC 1933s that I’ve had for years and never washed 😅 if I ever get compliments on them it’s always from denim men haha (I’m a lady and it’s tricky to find selvedge that fits my hip/waist ratio… I just have to embrace the diaper butt when I cinch them up as much as possible). Maybe a video about selvedge for people shaped like me? I think it’s mostly dudes that watch your channel but just a thought!

    Interesting thoughts on wearing an item for 100 days straight and styling it. I have been a “denim head” for the better part of 2 decades now so wearing a pair of jeans for 6 months straight isn’t strange to me. That said if you aren’t used to that I can see it being a huge adjustment. I found that it has narrowed my wardrobe down to essential pieces and I certainly am not going after trends anymore as sometimes jeans don’t work with some of the trends that’s come and go.
    Love the take and also the denim. I have the same pair!

    Good denim is worth the initial investment. I trawl shops for good vintage jeans 501s, 505s and 606s by Levi most of the time. It takes a while, but once you get a good pair, they'll probably last you a lifetime. For new denim Japanese trousers are great too.

    I’m a stonemason. My work is extremely tough on clothing. I’ve been wearing $15 “pre-wash” 14.75oz dark blue Rustler(by Wrangler)daily for over a year. They refuse to die and just keep getting better and better, fading to perfection.

      @BrethrenForge117 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I can also say that the rustler are really tough, and fade beautifully. If you're a welder, you'll end up burning or tearing them just like any other pants, but they are still Excellent, quality jeans.
      Wish they came with a 5th pocket for lip balm though!

      Rustler is made by Wrangler which is owned by Kontoor Brands. Some wrangler jeans are made with a lighter weight denim. Probably 12oz. But Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans and the Rustler line of jeans appear to be made from 14.75oz denim. Also the Cowboy Cut jeans use broken twill denim. Good stuff.

    Often the difference in fading on the left vs right thigh has something to do with how you cross your legs when you sit. It's common when you are sitting comfortably to rest one foot or ankle across the top of the other thigh, like a figure 4. You probably have a preferred top vs bottom leg, in this case right on top, left on bottom. The friction of the ankle of one leg across the top of the other is what wears away the indigo. all things equal you can probably find a complimentary wear pattern on the oustide back part of the right leg.

    • @TK8866275
      @TK8866275 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Unlike with arms, the right dominant people have their *left* *leg* usually stronger than the right.While right dominant people do dexterity demanding task with their right foot they stand on their left, which leads to the left leg becoming the stronger one. So there is quite likely also small difference, about an inch between the circumferences of the thighs between right and left leg. Of course that also affects to the way how one crosses the legs ie. the right leg goes on the top because it's one of those tasks demanding more dexterity but the fabric is also more taut on the left thigh than the right one.

    Really cool video, I hope my experience will match yours. I bought a pair of Japanese Momotaro Jeans second hand, although they were basically new. Never washed, only worn like 3 times. Since I got them, I‘ve been wearing them every damn day and each time I take them on, I feel good about them, and when taking them off, I kinda don’t want to 😅. They have an amazingly deep indigo colour, blue-blackish, and fit really well. Only payed 100€ (I‘m German) instead of the 300€ new.
    It‘s this feeling of knowing I‘ll be having this pair of clothing for many years to come, while sweatshirts, jackets and shoes come and go. This pair of Jeans definitely inspired me to get more reliable and durable clothing. ❤

    #pvv I'll go back to see if this is covered in your other denim videos, but as someone who's really wanted to get some selvidge, there are two qs that are always there:
    1) How do you keep your washes down without your pants reeking? I've heard that you're supposed to put them in the freezer overnight every night to kill the bacteria, and also that this is a bunk idea and does nothing. Okay, so what do you do instead? For reference, I put my pants in the laundry after about ten days, hang them inside out overnight to get any vestigal smell out when wearing them, and I tend to sweat a lot, especially during summer.
    2) Is there any way to tell that selvidge denim has been "broken" and won't mold to your body when buying it used? I've often seen N & F denim when thrifting, but wasn't sure if the qualities mentioned in this vid that make it so covetable had been erased through overwashing, and that's why it was selling so cheap.
    Many thx, keep up the great content.

      I don't know anything about denim but freezing does not kill bacteria. It does slow down its growth though.

    Hey Drew, I actually drive the same way you do. I’m starting to wonder if that is just a tall individual thing lol.
    Always quality content!

    I haven't had experience with these but I wouldn't wash them after 100 days or at least 9 times. I've had experience with Nudie Grim Tim 12oz and Gritty Jackson 14oz. The fades you get a so sick when you hold off from washing. deep contracts on the knee, back knee, groin whiskers, back and front pocket fades

    same experience with my red wing boots, were expensive, but it is my first pare of shoes that is now one year old and I wore them almost every day, but they are eaven more comftable than on the first day I wore them (and other than dr martens they were comftable from day one). I mean, its still bad that there has to be a animal killed to produce leather, but still, these boots are just so good, and still good for probably many years

    how often do you wash these? what do you wear while this is drying? does it dry that fast that you can wear 'em on the same day? just curious how you can wear the same pair for 100 days straight

    This video makes me subscribe. Love a good pair of selvedge denim. Pro Tip: swim in them. First ocean then the pool or just ocean of you want warmer distress color. The jeans will look amazing. Don’t wash for as long as possible, but don’t let em smell like balls either

    #PVV You gonna dive more into japanese americana or just sticking to the jeans? Ever thought about raw denim jackets, loopwheel tees, or untreated wallets? Definitely had my phase in that during my college years ~15years ago which I loved but just grew a bit out of. still have a few pairs of raws from Samurai and Iron Heart that I'll bust out every now and then though.

    Does drew know Naked & Famous & unbranded are both the same company? So I hear @ least. I'm new to this selvege thing & only have 2 pair of brave stars. Both of which are Cone mills denim. So I haven't even tried the Japanese denim yet.

    Thank you for this! I feel like this video was speaking directly to me. I been looking to get into denim but not sure how! This has taught me a lot and gave me a point of where to start
    One question I do have is can you get denim tailored ?

    • @kolychnic
      @kolychnic ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you can tailor pretty much everything if you really wish to, but denim structure and form will change over time anyways

    any suggestions from anyone on Japanese selvedge brands for women? I'm petite and low key thicc so men's sizing is probably not going to work for me without major alterations.
