For me, Hunter x Hunter felt different from other Shonens simply because I’ve seen so many Shōnen that I can usually tell what’s about to happen almost exactly, and in Hunter x Hunter my expectations were consistently proven wrong. They’d lose a climactic fight, or go in a direction I’d never expect. It’s a Shōnen, but it doesn’t always follow the kind of “Shōnen formula” and I found that refreshing.
Idk about u, but I actually predicted quite a lot on what's gonna happen 🤣 so I'll give myself a pat on my back for that one. Def my top 5 anime of all time still
The chimera arc for was the most unpredictable shounen arc,it's in my top 3 so I don't mind it,GINTAMA for me is the most unpredictable anime and manga, I mean the title of the arc was Shogun assassination arc for f*ck sake they totally nailed it

Writing wise, one piece def takes the cake, the fact that everything is connected since a decade ago is very special, and I don't think any anime/manga would top that very soon,except maybe berserk for some people (HxH would have been that aswell if it weren't for the constant hiatus). And gintama, idk, gintama is just better than HxH (that's for personal preference) 💀 but yeah. HxH is top 3 shonen for me for now. (The promised neverland and Vinland is going strong on the anime tho, so we will see if any of em can catch HxH off that 3rd place to me)

In terms of how it’s different from other shonens, I’d say the power system is what makes it really unique. It’s extremely complex but somehow also manages to make sense.

Personally, I believe Hunter x Hunter is easily one of the best shows of all time, Yoshihiro Togashi is an absolute genius, the writing, the characters, the world building, all top tier. Well, I wouldn't expect anything less from the guy who also made Yu Yu Hakusho.
Fun fact, Togashi's wife is Naoko Takeuchi, the mangaka who wrote Sailor Moon.

I dont think anyone ever gets bored of hearing Departure 148 times. HxH is also easily a top 5 anime made of all time.

I wasn't bored even for a second. Just because it was a long arc doesn't mean it was stretched. And I'm not saying hxh is the best anime. There are ofcourse animes better than it. But when we are comparing arcs, chimera ant arc is the greatest anime arc I've ever seen. And many non hxh fans and many critics also agree.

This theme song never gets old the only anime that I don’t mind them changing it.
I actually love the song so no I don’t get bored of it btw the opening slightly changes in tone and lyrics if you had subtitles you’ll see what I’m talking about
I was literally wheezing the entire video, especially how you went from 'I really liked the song' to 'the same song again?', welp you shall grow to LOVE the song if you are listening to it for 148 episodes straight, Departure is freaking iconic and I love it with my soul. I’m more used to shows using the same theme song since I’ve usually only watched American shows. So I never even realized it was uncommon for Animes to not use the same song till I started watching other Animes and was slightly shocked by how often it was changed. But overall Departure is super enjoyable so I was happy to keep hearing it.
The playing cards is just for one arc. The "magic" system in this manga/anime is one of best, if not the best, magic systems of all time. Very consistent in terms of what can be done and not done. Great writing. Focus shifts to different character, its not always focused in main one. Fights arent always about who is stronger but rather who is more creative.

If we're rating this show out of 10, it's about as close to a ten as I've seen. I was super resistant to even go into it, and once I did, I stubbornly refused to give it much credit. But it was easy to watch and I let it just keep playing. I'm not sure at what point it won me over, but it slowly morphed into what is potentially my favorite anime series of all ever. It takes its time to establish its characters, power system, and the way to think about what its world presents. It's too good.

My hearth jumps with joy every time I hear the opening song, it’s like an anthem. It’s a marvelous song. I love that they kept the same amazing song.

Hunter x Hunter is the type of anime you would like to forget just to rewatch it again, it is truly a masterpiece.
Just so you know, they played the same song with two different versions alternatively for 148 episodes.
Definitely one of the best animes out there.

HxH is a show like no other. It transcends typical shounen genre, constantly subverts expectations and makes your head spin with all the details which you'll probably miss alot on a first watch. You just have to see for yourself how different it is :)

The second to last opening which you said seemed darker is the opening for the what's arguably the best arc in the show, and one of the best arcs in anime ever. Absolute masterpiece and is a must watch, can't recommend it enough!

hunter x hunter also has literally the most unique, detailed, and intriguing power system of all anime. Not just my opinion. It's a fact agreed upon by nearly everyone that's watched this show

Hunter X Hunter despite at first seeming to be like a typical shounen breaks the mold like no other, its a lot darker and more tactics focused it has some great relatable villains, and whilst being shonen takes on a very different approach from any other.
It’s 10/10 anime for me, such a masterpiece, easily in my top 3 of all time as well. It’s a shonen yes but it’s so different from the others 😉 you will get so many vibes from it!

It's one long season of 148 episodes that aired from October 2011 to September 2014, so almost 3 years of weekly episodes, my favourite anime by far though
the "you just try again" part in the second opening is kind of nostalgic for me.

U need to do gintama openings also react to Hunter x Hunter it starts slow but it becomes legendary later on
They use the full version of the song, but split it into two halves. Opening 1, 3, 4 and 6 use Departure version 1 and 2 and 5 use Departure version 2. Surprisingly, it doesn't get old.
you have to watch HxH not only see the anime openings you MUST watch it is a masterpiece
this is simply best shounen because it has the motivations right, the characters right. It has best villains EVER. The development is great. Action is epic, it doesn't have fillers. And above else, the story is interesting, original and this has the best special powers system ever created. It's like detailed science and characters don't do simple "magic stuff", it's really so good and you know exactly what they do and how it works.
Hunter x Hunter has exceptionally good pacing, has an entertaining focus upon strategy during it's fights, and a believable well explained power scaling.

It's an extremely good show. In my opinion one of my top 15 to 10 anime of all time, you should really watch it.
Hunter x Hunter is different from the rest of the shounen genre because it gets super dark. 10/10
Pathos/Kian not just because it’s dark but also the way it handles the power system and the philosophy too
There are a lot of dark shounen out there and some are even darker than HxH
HxH is amazing for many other reasons
Klasse of course HxH is amazing for other reasons (the characters for example). What I mean is it stands out in its genre because of how it subverts shounen tropes and ends up in a much darker place than anyone could have predicted from the first couple arcs. Togashi lulled us into a false sense of security with the usual shounen shenanigans and then pulled the rug out from under us in the chimera ant arc.
@@kitcats-bm7rf Not saying you're wrong but to be honest the darker tone was a lot more consistent from the beginning if you read the manga or 1999 anime adaptation. The brighter tone mostly comes from the 2011 adaptation
Of course the series only kept on getting darker and darker in all 3 versions but I feel like if you look past the bright colors and music theres a lot of fucked up shit happening in the first few arcs lol

The 2nd to last opening is my favorite and I think it is the best arc in anime history, I hope u do start this anime, its a lot of fun and I would rate it 9/10

i think HxH completely captured me was after the Hunter Exam when they went to the Heavens arena, it was just so... relatable. what now? they needed both Money and more Power so how about some stage fighting? I literally thought the exact thing as them, and then they got to it haha
