@Default i saw Clannad, not after story yet and i don't wanna sound like a violent goblin brain, but... It was fine. It was solid, but a little... Quiet. Like, quiet is good but i feel like some parts dragged on a bit or it showed us parts we didn't really have to see. It ended up a bit all over the place because of branching paths. As an adaptation of a VN with multiple endings (romance) into a core anime is impressive, but i expected more. I'd say it's good but over hyped. Angel Beats is a bit better from that company of VN novel adaptations. -

@@AarenYASS please respond when you've finished after story. In my opinion people talk about clannad only thanks to the after story. I haven't watched either in like 10 years so I don't remember much. I think both do drag on a little too much at times though like you said.

Hunter X Hunter starts out very tame at the start, but gets darker towards the end of the series, there are 148 episodes and there is never a boring one. Basically hunters are licensed professionals who specialize in treasure hunting, locating and hunting rare and dangerous species and many other things. It has one of the most unique power systems where the limit is the imagination, some great fights and sad moments and is definitely my favourite anime. 👍

So so true. Whenever I listen to this endings I can almost remember all the ending scenes of each episode (well, probably only the most important ones) and for me, it was always the "wo ho ho" part of the 3rd ending (reason) that almost got me teary eyed every time because it is so beautiful in combination with the little narration part that's done at the end too. And of course, the exciting instrumental of "hunting for your dream" is so freaking memorable.

ED2 has to be my favourite. and the full version is even more awesome. I loved the anime (tv) version, but when i checked out the original i was blown away tbh (and now I'm a fan of "Galneryus" as a group). All the songs are worth checking out full versions of too in my opinion
Great reaction as always! Always love to see more people enjoying these gems.
As to the show itself... nothing works more than watching it yourself. People trying to explain stuff will probably make it more confusing, as the show does things great by itself. Hand on my heart, I have grown up on anime, so have watched it for 20ish years, and HxH remains in my top 3 ever since I watched it as it was being released.

"This new character with the helmet looks terrifying". Man you have no idea how much you're right ! Also, the princess Peach thing nearly killed me 😂😂
HxH is hard to sum up but to make it simple, it's the story of a boy's quest for his father who abandonned him when he was a baby. At least, that's what the first season starts with. And unlike you think, there are quite a lot of fight scenes. For the rest, you'll have to watch the anime and you must because it's an amazing anime. It's the first anime I watched and I still can't get tired of it. And yes, it doesn't feel like it but it becomes darker and darker and the themes approached are very serious : the lack of a father, child abuse, honnor in combat, respect, revenge, denial and how to apprehend death for the first time...

The 5th ending covers the biggest arc in the series. Due to the mangaka, Togashi's very very frequent hiatus because of his health, this one arc lasted for 8 years in real time. From 2004 to 2012. It is also like half of the entire series' length too. The manga has been back for a bit now after a 4 year hiatus starting in 2018. Usually, Togashi gives us like 10 chapter and dips out for years but they very very recently also announced that it is no longer going to be a weekly format. So, maybe he can now continue to make the series without that pressure and actually progress the story.
The HxH 2011 remake is 148 episode and until the manga is done, I do consider where the 2011 anime ended to be a great ending point. It prevents me from feeling the sting that the manga will probably never be done unless Togashi rushes it or he actually just writes the story instead and allows Madhouse to animate the rest of it in the future.

Hunter X Hunter is technically still ongoing, as the manga is not yet finished. The anime, however, ended at a very final feeling point, so the story might as well have ended exactly where the anime ended. This gives the anime a very complete feeling, even if the manga continues the story after that point to this day.
So if you decide to watch it, you don't really have to worry about it being unfinished - the point at which the anime ends is perfect and leaves pretty much nothing to be desired.

Hunter X Hunter is hands down the best shounen anime of all time to me, and I never even watched the full show, but probably watched reactions worth the time watching the whole show 2-3 times total...
About the story (spoiler-free in my own words and estimation):
"In this world, you can become a professional 'Hunter' that can do requests and gain benefits in various ways from such a status, and the main character/s want to become 'Hunters' for various reasons, be it for specific goals or to become stronger. We get to see the journey of the young boy Gon and his friends, with different Story Arcs building up on each other and intertwining throughout the series"
... and yes, it's a dark and serious show quite often and throughout, and I recommend 100% watching it still, will not take too long to see it's not all just a happy fun time.
edit: has anyone else watched the N. vs. M. Fight for the first time without watching the show and thought that N. was actually the "bad guy"? :p cause I know I did, especially at the end~

    • @ahmadmanga
      @ahmadmanga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That fight was framed from M.'s perspective because it was the more interesting one to follow, if you had no other context it makes "N. is the bad guy" really convincing because the fight itself was Grey vs Grey in the morality scale.

    YES THANK YOU
At some point, you gotta watch this anime, no idea when, but when you have the time and you will be up for it, definitely check it out. Really, no jokes now - definitely a show worth watching even after years, I love the story, I love the characters and the relationships between them. Even after years, it still holds on as one of my favourites and inspired many stories that came after it.
You can't force me to pick ONE anime, that's way too cruel. I would say one favourite anime in each genre, then MAYBE I might be able to pick one each, but otherwise nope. I kind of lost count of how many animes I've seen... not as many as other people tho since I never had the chance to watch that much, but my guess is around 100... Definitely watched the most popular animes over the years that came to life, but I've seen some hidden gems too.
I'm not sure how many, but I'm a big fan of longer animes exactly like Hunter x Hunter (and Attack on titan counts too I guess). Naruto with Fairy Tail were my first animes I watched when I was young.

in the hugging shot photo, the voice actor of the guy in the suit passed away a few years ago in 2020 of respiratory arrest due to cancer. He was a legendary voice actor, one of the best of the field and truly irreplaceable. He apparently also dub the voice of Ironman (so he is the Robert Downey Jr. counterpart of Japan.)
P.S. The full version of ED 1 and 3 is more amazing in the full version.
If you like Loathing in Las Vegas, they also sang the opening 1 of Parasyte. Unfortunately, this band disbanded a while back. among popularity, the 3 most popular out of the 5 songs is.... ED 1, 3, and 4.

For me, one of the best parts of the Hunter x Hunter endings- something that wasn't couldn't be showed in the video you watched because it would have spoilers- is how at the end of most episodes the music starts in the background before jumping into the ending. If Opening 2's beginning seems abrupt, it's because the song actually kicks off with a badass riff, so there'd be plenty of episodes where the final cliffhanger would have that badass opening transitioning into the ending. Ending 5 has a little jingle that builds the anticipation as well. It can't be understated how the cliffhangers + narrator + music all working in tandem are pretty much an artform in of itself. And if you didn't notice, Ending 5 and 6 aren't just the same singer, but in fact different parts of the same song!
some more fun background info: the creator of Hunter x Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi is married to the creator of Sailor Moon. And before Hunter x Hunter, Togashi created Yu Yu Hakusho, which is another legendary iconic series that holds a very warm place in Western anime fans because it came to our TV right along the same time as Dragonball Z.
Hunter x Hunter itself is infamous among anime fans online because of how often it goes on hiatus (in part due to Togashi's chronic back problems). To give you an idea, the series just went FOUR YEARS without a single chapter or any new content, all the while other series like One Piece kept progressing and other series like Chainsawman came onto the scene. And now, after a handful of new chapters these past few weeks, the series is announced to be going BACK on indefinite hiatus. So as you can imagine, it's a testament to the quality, legacy, and diehard fandom that this series continues to be up there at the top of everyone's attention despite being on break most of the time.

Hunter x hunter is an amazing series. It has its moments when it's extremely light hearted and wholesome then it just slaps you across the face with some dark moments out of nowhere. Yet for some reason, those dark moments don't feel out of place but rather in continuity with the story. The story basically is about a couple of kids and their adventures but the story doesn't shy from throwing these kids into adult like situations and forcing them to deal with it. It's a great watch and I believe that you'll like it quite alot. Btw, the story of hunter x hunter isn't really over but it has been on hiatus for quite some time. It only returned just recently

Hunter X Hunter apparently has 2 versions. 1999's version and 2011's version (the series which you reacted here). The OP and ED from 1999 has totally different atmosphere and themes, darker than 2011 imo. My favourite OP from 1999 version is 'Ohayou', it has nostalgic value for me. Also 'Pray' from OVA Opening has really good tunes too. From 2011 version, we have the same taste for ED, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas should be on your react list. 😁

I’ve seen something like 300-400 animes in my life, been watching it since 14 yo. HxH is definitely my favourite. Insane storytelling. INSANE plot. I can describe it as an adventure anime, but it’s absolutely impossible to describe what it is about. There are a lot of different arcs in it, and with the end of the main protagonist goal the anime itself is not ended. But speaking about darkness, it is really unique thing in HxH. For example, when you see AoT, after the first episode you already understand, what kind of show is this. It is dark, it is brutal, it is real. The deal with HxH is… YOU NEVER SEE this coming. You never understand, WHAT is this show, when you look at the smiley mc face. Ne ve r. And this is so unique about it. This show is unpredictable. To be honest, it’s hard to compare HxH and AoT, but they are also in the same main genre, and for me HxH is even better, then AoT, and I absolutely love Attack on titan and I believe that it is one of the best animes in the world. It’s just something about HxH, that you will never see in any different anime. It’s just something, that you can describe just like a “masterpiece”.
The main surprise for me was an actual main character. I won’t tell you any spoilers, obviously, but in shonen (it’s a genre of anime, mainly about male protagonist and his adventures, popular among teen boys in japan) the main character is always a stereotypical happy dude, who loves everyone and wants to save everyone. They are usually all kinda the same, and mostly people like side characters more, than a main one (in this genre particularly). The deal with the HxH mc is that he is actually the most interesting character in the entire series.
I HIGHLY recommend HxH to you. This is that kind of series, that made me proud of the anime culture itself.
It’s definitely an 18+ anime also, it’s insanely brutal sometimes.

    "Princess Peach" killed me hahaha.
HxH is about a kid looking for his dad who has left home to become a hunter. Being a hunter in this anime is a real profession that holds pride and prestige so the kid is trying to become a hunter too as his dad so they can be reunited again.
That's the general grasp of the story but it's really more on it.
Also the ecchi and hentai are a genre of their own. Anime has a lot of genres lol

Also is shorter so it’s easier to binge watch. But that’s a matter of personal preference, HxH is great, it’s just not as good as FMAB imo. Also every arc introduced in FMAB has an ending, HxH has some unfinished storylines across the whole show.

What's crazy about HxH , is that even in the early "happy go lucky" episodes , you get some rather dark snipets and glimpse at the cruelty of its world , and the mental unstability of some of its heroes and characters . I mean even in the first episode , pinky swears take a wrong turn real fast (just like in some of the actual original japanese pinky swears traditions)

My absolute favorite has to be HunterxHunter. I have personally watched a lot of animes, and nothing comes and hits me harder than HxH. Even compared to other ones like Attack on Titan, Death Note, Demon slayer, Fullmetal Alchemist etc. nothing beats HxH when it comes to characters, storytelling, THE MUSIC (big one) and worldbuilding. When I watched HxH for the first time, I didn't know anything about it (no expectations at all), and after I finished watching it I was just blown away by it. It is one of those animes that I wish I could watch it again without any past knowledge. I hope you could react to it in the future (148 episodes, jesus), you got my stamp of approval :D

I believe the first song was by the same band that did the Parasite: the maxim opening.
It's about a hunter hunting a hunter, but you learn to enjoy the side quests.
A lot of shonen start pretty happy go lucky and end up in some pretty dark places. This one alternates between lighter and darker arcs.
Wether this is finished is a bit of a complicated question. The author, Togashi, has been suffering from health problems for a while, so was updating the manga pretty slowly and inconsistently. Because of that, the show found a good stopping place and did an ending of a story arc in a way that could function as the end of the show but left room for more. Recently however, he has started being able to write it again and I believe he has mentioned that he is working towards an official end, so presumably we will get more episodes in a while.
AOT has one more part of season 4 and then it will be done.
Genre is a tricky question as it is for any medium and most shows don't fit neatly into just 1. You have all the normal ones, but there are a couple more that while not unique to anime and manga, show up there a lot. Mecha for example involves giant robots (think Pacific rim), Isekai involves someone getting transferred to another world (think Narnia or Alice in wonderland). There is also Shonen, which refers to shows marketed to younger boys, but also has a lot of shows which have a lot of similar plot elements which I think I've heard referred to as battle shonen. I would describe this as a group of friends who generally have some sort of unique super human powers fight threats which are continuously escalating in scale. There are generally many training arcs and at least 1 tournament arc. Some examples of this would be the dragon ball series, Naruto, one piece, hunter x hunter, demon slayer, my hero academia. They are also often some of the longest.
Favorite that is finished: full metal alchemist brotherhood.
Favorite yet to be finished: attack on Titan.
There, that was less than 3.

for favorite, its tough because people likely consider "the one i would watch over and over" as a separate category from "the one i enjoyed and influenced me the most". Very few +anything+ fullfills both categories at once (like Arcane, bar none). For many people, some anime series have a nostalgia factor that we can watch over and over but we know they are not so good in quality so they wouldn't recomend it for someone getting into anime. I think you can get a clearer answer with anime movies or short series, like the cowboy bebop movie or ghost in the shell. Also anime as you've seen has a lot of component, from the music to the art, and also they sometimes change the original story to fit the format and it may sour the experience for some after the fact, even if they enjoyed the series for the most part. I think big iconic series like Gurren Laggan would fit into what many would consider universally good to watch, good to recomend and good as introduction. Some of the "classics" like Slayers or InuYasha are *very* long and its a more mellow thing.

My favorite anime is Mushoku Tensei, it can be weird at times, but everything else in it, how it balances lightheartedness and dark themes intrigues me, it was the first anime that made me go read the source material, a Light Novel, despite me having the worst attention span.
The Monogatari series (as a whole, not any individual season) comes close, being even weirder yet having some of the best writing in anime, so much so that I've heard the source material is borderline untranslatable with how it plays with the Japanese language.

Giving this series a short synopsis to explain what it is about is kinda hard, becouse it's so long and each arc is so different to each other.
But in it's core, at least for the anime, it's basically about this (spoiler free):
Gon's farther left him to be raised by his aunt in order to pursue his carere as a "Hunter", a verry high class job with lots of variety and lots of risks. Amazed by the fact that beeing a "Hunter" is a job suposedly amazing enough that one would abandone their child for it, Gon (our main character) sets out to become a "Hunter" himselfe at the age of 12, and decides to find his father while he's at it. So he leaves his little home island, and his journey to become a "Hunter" begins, where he will find friends, face mortal danger, and explore the world around him.

It's not wrong to get Peach vibes from Bisky. They are similar design-wise...
BUT Peach wishes she could be as badass as Bisky.
For me, my favorite two songs of these are definitely Reason (ending 3) and Two Sides of the Same Coin (ending 5). Reason because it's just so perfect vibewise, and I just love the main trio we have, I want more of them. Biscuit, Gon and Killua are just a great trio that play so well off each other. Two Sides of the Same Coin, is hands down the best one, in context. You need to context of the story arc and it becomes just beautiful.
And HxH is an interesting beast. It's story structure is like this: Togashi (the writer) sees something interesting, runs wild with it, sees something shiny, gets distracted and jumps to that and makes it flow well.
My favorite anime is still Fairy Tail. It was just something I found at the right place, at the right time, with the right message to get me through shit.

To answer some questions at 14:30, there are a TON of anime genres and subgenres. The main ones you've been seeing are considered shounen- which are your typical action adventure stuff targeted for teen boys. Shoujo - anime targeted towards girls, often times with more romance and pretty looking characters (so less angry screaming musclemen, instead it's more soft spoken gentlemen). Seinen - your more dark and edgy stuff targeted for adults.
Of course it's not quite set in stone and there's overlap. Sometimes a series starts off as one genre before eventually settling in on another. Weekly Shounen Jump is the biggest magazine and its where a lot of the biggest anime series like DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter were all published in. But at the same time that same magazine has silly gag comedies, romantic comedies, mystery series, sports series, and ecchi- that's usually relegated to the backpages. Ecchi is basically softcore lewd stuff, sometimes really pushing the boundaries, but not actual full blown hentai.
There's also the Mecha genre, (basically giant robots) which doesn't seem to be as popular in recent years but has had some massively successful and influential series like Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion. One of the biggest current trends is isekai anime - basically the premise being a normal person gets transported into another world (See: Sword Art Online, Overlord, Re:Zero).
It's pretty much an endless rabbit hole! You've got your work cut out for ya

13:58 from what I can remember, no it isn’t complete. The manga is on hiatus due to the author’s health issues and the anime stopped since there wasn’t enough content to go farther at that time.
14:19 we’re waiting on the 3rd part of season four (should be the last of the series)
14:31 think of anime genres as movie/tv show genres, with a few extra ones for specific niches in anime, like Mecha anime (giant robots, usually involves wars)
15:22 Mine would have to be AoT, the world building is amazing and I love the characters. I’ve also always thought the power system was kinda funny because they’re basically just mechs made of flesh, with some fantasy elements added on. Mob Psycho 100 is behind it by a close second though, with how it’s last season has been so far, it might replace AoT as my favorite pretty soon.

HxH is wonderfully deceiving. At first it looks like a simple generic shonen like any other. Later it starts coming back again and again to your mind because of how well written it is. At the end it has you crying overwhelmed with emotion. It is my favorite manganime.
Hunter x Hunter has not finished. The anime reached a partial ending which is satisfying enough if you only care about the anime, but the manga continues today.
Hunter x Hunter is definitely the best shonen of all shonens. It is actually a deconstruction of the shonen genre, always delivering the unexpected. It's about a group of people who want to become "hunters", a social class of skilled elites who try to get anything they want. So the characters are all after different goals, even the antagonists, and it gets dark and morally grey. The more it progresses the more you see it does not have heroes and villains, just different people with different desires, circumstances and skills. It's not easy to define this show in few words, you totally have to watch it.
