Irresponsable people don’t make agressive dogs. It’s people with more serious mental health issues such as Narcissistic personality disorders. It takes more that complacency to make an aggressive dog, it takes excessive aggression from the owner, this is a fact known by all dog trainers

I don't own an xl bully. But I am a dog owner. I think everybody who owns a dog should be responsible for their dog and whatever it does. People should be. licenced. to own any dog. I strongly believe in licencing and would get behind any campaign for it. The amount of animal welfare issues from over breeding to dog fighting and more that could be solved through licencing and better law it would give dogs so much more protection and if people with temporary bans on keeping animals had to actually reapply for licences there would be more protection from those people. It's better for everyone except those who abuse animals be it intentionally, motivated by money cruelty or neglect

Dogs are bred for certain characteristics, temperament, size, colour etc. what are bully dogs bred for in the first place? What are herding or guardian dogs bred for? Genetics carry a lot of risks and if those dogs being bred and sold to people who have no idea what the generations of the litter is on both sides, there certainly can be some very serious problems. Why did that lady get a X-L bully? I’m sure it’s also to protect her home, herself her family. That dog may appear docile when inside the home chilling on a zoom call, but let some dog and person it doesn’t recognize and see how it reacts. Will it be neutral? Chill? Or would it get off that couch and mare sure that perceived threat doesn’t enter, or if it did, it retreats and gets out asap? She didn’t say what she does with her Billy (dogs name) just saying it’s a family pet. No activity mentioned, no taking it to obedience school or obtaining a good citizen certificate, no a sport club mentioned. So that dog gets to hang about the house, go for walks and hikes. That’s why I don’t believe that this dog was just bought as a family member pet.

Bullies are bread to be companion dogs . They basically bred out the terior genetics from staffs and pit bulls and replaced it with mastiff genetics.
They behave like mastiffs that's why people like them. They don't move much or get the zoomies in the house they just sit next to you. They bark a little to alert you of someone coming near but aren't very vocal overall.
They aren't aggressive they are protective that's how the problems occur. The owner gets nervous and the dog interprets that as my owner is under threat and attacks .
Pocket bullies and standard bullies are great. But the XL well you probably shouldn't have a 65 kg dog if you yourself aren't over 85kg or you might have problems controlling it. Then you will be nervous you can't control it. And the nerves will trigger the dog .
Banning xl bullies will just make move to another large breed and then we will see the same problem with that breed.

Affordable DNA sampling in various bullies and those that have attacked or killed would be an interesting study on bloodline and temperament. Sounds like the UK is reclaiming civility in its public parks whereas the U.S. is indifferent to public safety on many levels, as XL Bully population increases and owners often let them roam the public parks off leash, despite that legal violation. In the U.S. "freedom" is often interchanged with boorishness and belligerence of the dog owner.

If a breed of dog can fell a grown man in minutes it is not suitable as a pet. As well as attacks on humans the number of dog-on-dog attacks has increased massively. Only 17 out of 39 police forces record these attacks and, based on their data, attacks have increased from 1,700 a year in 2016 to 11,559 in 2021. That's an increase of 700%. These attacks are devastating not just for victim dogs but the owners. Also these attacks are frequently the precursor to attacks on humans. There are plenty of other breeds to choose from that don't require specialist handling.

What we've ACTUALLY seen - and i'm speaking as someone who lived through the hardest parts of the 1991 dangerous dogs act which outlawed many dog types, including the pitbull type - is that a criminal contingent has adopted the pitbull type knowing fine well it has been considered illegal for over 30 years.
This is why a proportionately high number of attacks have been by these dogs, as looking at the public incidents which were recorded, these attacks were almost all by UNREGISTERED - and therefore illegal - pitbull types (remember, in the UK, a pitbull is only a dog "type", and not a breed - staffies, American bullies... even some dogues de bordeaux can technically be classified as "pitbull type" if measured by dog sergeants).
If you discount the illegal portion of the animals involved in the incidents they're far more in line with other powerful breeds (Rottweilers etc) RE attacks on humans and other animals.

What makes a bad dog is either bad breeders and or bad owners, you get unlicensed, back street breeders who do not care about the welfare of the stud dogs which most likely are bad dogs, or to save on stud fees they use inbreeding eg using the dog's sons and daughters.
I remember the times staffies was a craze for chavs, gangs and dealers, but I own a staffy since he was a pup, but he is loyal, loving and caring as he alerts me when i am going to have an epileptic seizure, my wife has epilepsy so he lets me know if she is due a seizure but she also has young onset Alzheimer's dementia and he lays with her if she has a bad day... but before you ask about paramedic safety he will happly allow paramedics to attend too us.
yes there are bad bullies out there as i have come across aggressive bully xl's but its down to bad owners, and yes i've nearly been bitten by one but luckly i had my dog with me.

Any breed, inc XLs able to take down an adult when it looses it or snaps should be looked at too. Any dog can snap, no matter how good the owner thinks their control or training is. To exaggerate my point....Not many small breeds are capable of killing someone in seconds, no matter how determined they are.

Banning one dog will just make those awful dog owners move onto another, any breed can be trained to be vicious and aggressive, *IT'S NEVER THE DOG'S FAULT!*

"any breed can be trained to be vicious and aggressive"
But only the pitbull family naturally is like this. They were created precisely for this purpose after all.
