@@Musa786-lx2ui it means exactly what it says ie alot of people arent very nice to eachother and thats why alot of dog owners choose to have dogs, alot of dogs love unconditionally, all they ask is to be walked everyday for at least an hour and be fed and given shelter and you get alot back if you give them that. with people that is often not the case, they nearly always have "conditions/demands". Theres one thing i agree with about Xl bullies and that is that they are like they are because of humans, they are a very manufactured/breed and i do think breeding of them should be banned as with any fighting dog breed, but i agree its not the animals fault they are the way they are, just like its not a border collie or a kelpies fault that they are hyper and cant stop rounding things up and they repetatively chase a ball and keep bringing it back and dropping it at your feet over and over again, it is human interference that created these traits, but constantly dropping a ball at your feet although annoying isnt going to maime or kill anyone.

My dog got ripped to shreds by an xl bully who's owner walked him in the woods and through lakes daily, who spent hundreds so he could eat a raw diet every week and they was best friends who played together every day so all these people saying its not the dog its the owner needs to sit down and accept that your dog might be perfect to until you can't control them and then you risk prison if it was a kid in surgery instead of my dog and I'm 17stn and the owner was about 15 and his misses about 8 and it took about 3-4 minutes to get its teeth out of my dogs head so the average person won't be able to handle it if their dog turns one day. I understand that it's hard to accept that your dog is capable of that but that's pretty good proof that an xl with the best life any dog could have can become that dangerous for no reason and if you are not willing to register the dog and walk them without protection then you shouldn't have any dog regardless of the breed

@@skater1048 cant buy them if they dont exist which they didnt always. Growing up in the 70s in Australia , we always had two or 3 dogs at a time. We bred and showed pedigree Collie Rough(lassie) which are more the size /weight of a german shepherd. In those days the people around us all had pure bred dogs like german shepherds, dalmations, golden retrievers, dobermans, old english sheepdogs and kelpies, generally dogs of similar size. (Although i did know a family that had great danes) but none with rottweilers or putbulls. My collies put german shepherds and dobermans down a few times when we were out walking, but they werent injured, just overpowered. Everyones dogs were intact, we seldom put leads or collars on them (unless in the showring) dog fights were common if you didnt sight a same sex dog before your dog did, but injuries from dogs fighting was very uncommon. This is because other non fighting dog breeds do not naturally fight to death or injury, the species could not survive if it did. Unfortunately though fighting dog breeds were bred to do that/go against natural instinct and kill and maime whatever they choose to attack. When in the showring we were in the working dog group, a show lead is a flimsy piece of nylon, all dogs in the showring were intact and you would show against males and females, your dog cant turn around and growl at another dog or lunge etc and they didnt. If you had a bunch of different fighting dog breeds at a showring i dont think the result would be quite the same. Point being, banning breeding of certain fighting dog breeds will stop dog attacks to the extent of death. In the first 30 years of my dog ownership i never saw one dogfight that resulted in severe injury or death of a human or other dog. However in the last 12 years of dog ownership i have seen several dog attacks that have resulted in severe injury or death to other dogs and/or people (too many to count) 98%of them the attacking dog was a bull breed, the other 2% were fighting dog breeds (1 rottweiler, 1 american akita). Havibg said that i have also met very well behaved akitas , rottweilers and bull breeds that play well with my dog, but it doesnt change the fact that in both worldwide statistics and my own 50plus years of dog ownership experience that bull/fighting dog breeds are nearly always the ones doing the damage.

I can speak from experience here as a life time dog owner and some one who has trained guide dog puppies for the blind. 6 years ago I was attacked by a pit bull in my drive way. I pulled into the garage and let my Mal/GSD out of my jeep and she obediently went to the door into the house. At the same time a loose pitbull dragging a chain came from nowhere, and charged me. All I could do is put my hand out and he grabbed it and wouldn’t let go. He was getting ready to shake it like prey when my dog hit it so hard he let go. One bite, broke my thumb in two places, my hand and burst tendons. My dog, suffered broken canine teeth and nine puncture wounds. I was never a fan of pit bulls, pit bully’s or whatever like breed and I certainly do not like them now. BUT…….. having had this traumatic experience, I know many great pitbulls owners. This Pit bull that attacked me was kept chained up and used to fight. I am also against banning pit bulls and agree with what these two people were talking about. The only thing these bans do is punish responsible pet owners. Unfortunately for the pit bull and other mastiff type breeds, is that they attract a certain type of nefarious, irresponsible people that want these powerful type dogs as a status symbol, to breed as a source of income, to fight them or many other reasons that do not have the dogs best interest at heart. These type of owners usually do not spay/neuter or vaccinate their dogs either. The “law” needs to crack down on these type of bad pet owners if there is ever any hope of preventing future harm to both people and animals. The pit bull that attacked me disappeared with his young punk owner, leaving us with a huge medical bill and my left hand permanently scarred and damaged. My dog Reagan saved me that day and is now nine years old and also permanently scarred. Thankfully she is still not dog aggressive and goes everywhere with me.

@@melgrant7404 Absolutely. We have several rental houses on the border of Denver. Since they have reversed the pit bull ban, every tenet that has a pit bull has to provide proof of rental insurance, vaccines and proof of spay / neuter and pay an extra fee. Let’s just say the kind of renters that have these dogs, 90% of them decline to continue on with the rental application.
When I say absolutely, any dog can bite for any reason. My dog is so gentle but she weighs 95 pounds and she is not over weight. I never allow any child to hang on her or run up to her, especially now that she is older. Although I’m pretty darn sure she wouldn’t bite anyone, she is a dog and I will not set her up to nip or snap at anyone because she might be startled or in pain. I think pit bulls are more dangerous because they are over bred and more popular than most other breeds. People don’t spend the time to exercise these high energy/ high prey driven dogs. A destructive dog is a bored dog.
As soon as I hear someone say “oh, you have to know how to train a pit bull”, I just turn away. The truth is, IMO, for any breed, you have to know your dog’s temperament and start training from there. My last GSD did great with the dog packs he knew. But in a dog park, he would pick on and bully the submissive dogs. At 9 weeks old, He was socialized and raised going to dog parks and did great until he didn’t. So I had two options, train it out of him, or manage his behavior. Training worked for large dog parks but not small ones, so I never took him to the smaller ones. I also kept him quiet and in his kennel when kids were running around the yard playing because this triggered him and made him nervous, so he was kept happy in his kennel with a bone and I could enjoy our company without trying to mange his behavior.

There already is a law that they must be on leads...just the other day i saw a man walking a dog i didnt recognise and when i got closer with my dog his dog started to tremble and shake and was absolutely terrified when i commented he explained she was actually a 4month old border collie puppy , she was nearly completely shaven, he turned her over and showed me she had a trail of stitches that went from her stomach full circle over her back and around the otherside, he explained they had been walking her on the footpath when a staffy came flying out the front door of a house and grabbed her picked her up and began shaking her...turns out the people that owned the staffy had "rescued" it from the rspca 3 weeks earlier and the staffy whilst great with its new owners apparently very affectionate and sweet with their children, it doesnt like puppies...whilst the border collie puppy has miraculosly survived the attack physically, i doubt this dog will ever be confident around other dogs and will probably be aggressive to other dogs itself once it matures.

Wrong, most dogs can kill, but don't want to. If they're threatened, they growl as a warning, then bite and release.
But the key difference between most dogs, and pitbulls, is that pitbulls were bred to be willing to fight to the death (the trait called Gameness) To be relentless, to continue attacking no matter how much damage they've taken. Pitbulls aren't defensive fighters, they're offensive. They get excited, their prey drive gets triggered and they enjoy fighting. Not even wild animals like wolves are like that. Pitbulls are a monster of human arrogance a killing machine with the self-preservation bred out.

I’m sorry but however hard or well you train a dog they have an inherent nature to use aggression when cornered or under perceived threat. The fact is that a cornered Chihuahua can’t do much damage but an XL Bully dog can. It has physiological strengths which can overpower most things in attacks. I was brought up with dogs, I am a dog owner, but I know that certain dogs have a propensity to snap. Of course, an owner of one of these dogs will do the usual and say how angelic, how wonderfully cute and cuddly they are. Then you hear the “I don’t know what happened it never did this before” excuse when it’s too late. A little bit like the parents of a criminal saying how caring and loving they are despite doing something violent. It’s simply a selfish lack of awareness for some sort of perverse kudos and attention. This woman says that some people are scared of dogs, she fails to understand that certain dogs scare ALL people. As I say, I have been brought up around all sorts of dogs and would say that I am not scared of many, but if one of these dogs walking up to me unmuzzled I would be a concerned; how do I know if it’s trained or not? What I do know is that the likelihood of a positive outcome diminishes when one of these dogs is involved.

I agree with you. Another factor is when an owner loses interest in training and throws him in the back yard. Then they get another one to keep that one company. Then one day down the road they get lose or some kid hops the fence to get their ball and disaster strikes. The two dogs are more bonded to each other than their humans and develop that pack mentally and are even more dangerous. Social media is full of pictures of dogs cuddled up next to a baby with a banner declaring how gentle the breed is. I say how irresponsible it is to do that.

Ex racing greyhounds are predominantly muzzled when out in public because some of them have strong prey drive and can see other small dogs as prey. These dogs are muzzle-trained from very early days and it does not, in any respect, hinder their quality of life. Equally, the majority of ex racing greyhounds are not allowed off lead in public areas - purely because they are so fast and if they see something to chase you won't catch them. So people do the sensible thing and hire enclosed, safe fields for their dogs to blow off steam in on a weekly basis. I don't see that this is such a big deal for responsible XL bully owners to comply with.

Muzzle training can be a good thing for any dog breed though which is what I don't get.
All of mine are muzzle trained incase of an emergency. Say if they get a serious injury and are in so much pain as to risk biting someone or me, pop a muzzle on your safe and so is the vet the dog isn't going to freak out and injure itself more.
Ive seen dogs who going to the groomer get aggressive and snap at the groomer muzzle goes on freaking out more because they have never had one on yet your dog also bites at the groomer.
Muzzles are literally a good aid to have and it isn't always used to stop aggressive behaviour.
My Lurchers and Longdog wear one for lure coursing only to stop them grabbing the lure. My Collie is muzzle trained incase of emergencies were he needs one and every dog I have ever had has been muzzle trained for that reason.
Honestly every dog should be muzzle trained in my opinion no matter what it's common sense for any thing that pops up.

Yes alot of it is to do with breeding I see people claiming to be breeders of certain breeds yet not one mention of if you breed two dogs with aggressive tendencys your going to get aggressive puppies no matter what.
Reputable breeders breed for sound temprements meaning sound puppies and TO STANDARD if your reputable breeders.
Alot of these dogs are churned out just for fast cash meaning that the breeders don't care about temprements or standards it's all about making from people.
I use to breed GSD's and can tell you for a fact that if I bred two dogs with iffy temprements I can sure as heck say that those puppies wouldn't be of sound mind.

This would likely be better than banning to reduce dog attacks, animal neglect, and future rehoming. For a nation of animal lovers, we are pretty quick to condemn thousands of innocent animals to desth. Additionally whats to be done about future litters of bully mixes? Accidents will no doubt happen, and when they do it takes til 2yrs old for the dogs get over size.....Do the govt really expect their owners to just hand over their beloved family pets for destruction?!? I want to know from the owners if they can train their dogs instinct to attack
    - I get scared easily if a dog comes running to me. My scared reaction arouses their instincts to charge and attack me - no amount of training by the dog owners can change that a dog isn’t a car which only requires the owners to drive properly. A dog is a living being with a mind of its own. What should a scared person like me do when a huge bully dog charges towards me while I’m going about my day? You might be a good dog owner but I’m a bad pedestrian as I am scared easily by a dog running towards me - and the dog is good till it encounters a scared pedestrian!

keep special treats ready in your pocket. ask owner if you can give the dog a treat. If you are scared, hand it to the owner. Tell the dog what a good dog they are. Since the owners aren't socializing their dogs, it would be great if others like you can let these dogs know that most humans are friendly.

I love dogs, I own three, I love my community BUT bully dogs round here are a real problem. It is sad to say, young men who can barely restrain the dogs, they don't get enough exercise as most of them are living in flats. Easy to say don't judge them on what they look like, if you live in a twee part of the country, where financial, and lack of adequate housing etc is having a direct effect on working class people and as a by product causing a lot of aggression in the ' bully dog owners' let alone the lunging dog at the end of the lead.

I do not have an Xl bully BUT I have a large breed dog (Mastiff x Rottweiler) and had Dobermans in the past, who are fantastic family dogs yet used to be called devil dogs. When I decided to have my first dog I went to dog training classes and it has given me the knowledge needed for my dogs since then.
The problem is the owners, Willow is allowed off lead on walks, obviously not near roads. And if I see another dog on a lead she is put on her lead. Not to protect them but her.
When someone passes by she is told to stand and wait. Then she is given permission to move on, I have people of all ages asking if they can say hello and she loves it.
I have had many dogs go to attack her , often small supposedly family friendly dogs. Luckily my dog has NEVER EVER retaliated because she is well trained.
If you have any dog , I don’t care if it’s a chihuahua or an XL Bully all dogs need training, given boundaries and manners not babying. All training with love and kindness.
You can’t label a whole breed as bad because of the owners who can’t be bothered to put the work in with a puppy and reinforce it throughout the dogs happy existence.
The government need to get a grip instead of using sledgehammer to crack a walnut !
We have a generation of teenagers who have no respect and are downright abusive and violent. Look at knife crime and attacks on their peers and older adults in the UK . Are the government going to put a ban on those breeding, maybe add permanent tags to them .
Stop the idiots who buy dogs without any intention of training their dogs.

I was cycling. The dog was on a leash being held by an old lady. The dog stood across the bike path, so I had to stop. As soon as I put my foot on the ground it bit me on my thigh. No barking, no display of aggression. Just lunget straight at me and bit me. 🤷‍♂️

@@Lolodewednesday - Well, police could stop people walking dogs and ask to see the dog licence.
If an incident involving a dog happens, and police or local authorities are called and they find out that the dog owner does not have a dig licence then the dog/dogs are taken away no questions asked and the dog owner penalised.
Bottom line, having that licence requirement would be one extra layer of protection for the community.
And it will make life a lot easier for dog owners as they would learn basic knowledge about how to handle a dog.
Just watch videos of dog trainers such as Cesar Millan here on TH-cam and you can see how incredibly ignorant most people are when dealing with their own pet dog. And this causes major problems for the dog owners. And only after having problems they call professional dog trainers for help.

The Tosa is banned or restricted in a lot of countries. It's another breed that was initially breed purely for fighting and all the traits that would make them good at that are hardwired into them. So despite there being very few of them in the UK at the time they were banned, I can see the logic of it. Nip the problem in the bud before it becomes a problem. If you ban one type of "fighting" dog, the people that want the dogs for nefarious purposes will seek out another and the once rare Tosa, suddenly becomes more and more common.
