But there were special Jewish prayers etc. I was once attacked in Cambridge University on a Summer School as being a money loving person when I told a group of students that after doing extra training in my teacher training by salary was raised. Also a wonderful was man defended me when the Prime minister at the time in Israel was Beigin. He said he would support Israel whatever the government was as he was in thr first group of British soldiers that entered Bergen Belsen
We need people like M Phillips to take on the MSM (mainstream media). Basically, they can't have it both ways. Either they are interviewing or they are debating. So, we call them out.... Is this an interview or a debate? An interviewer lets the interviewee speak (like this man does). Or, if it is a debate, be prepared to be shown the fallacies of your argument.
Talking about race and slavery. What I find the height of HYPOCRISY is none of the people who are talking about reparations and discussions about the oppressor have stood up and said we need more money for police, for investigators, for border guards, etc which are the institutions dealing with TODAY'S slavery called "Human Traficking". In my opinion. They turn a blind eye to terrible issues happening TODAY. I find it UNBELIEVABLE. I would like someone to ask those people if they stood up and requested more money to combat this very real and frightening issue. I like Melanie Phillips.. thank you for this interview.
As a Christian (protestant), I was brought up on the Bible - the whole Old Testament as well as the new. We had some Jewish girls in my Grammar School. I can honestly say I never found any anti-Jewish prejudice in my society. I have always admired Israel. I am surprised at what Melanie understands about anti-semitism. I thought all that horrible stuff came with the Islamists who were admitted to our country without the consent of the natives.
Fighting and are keeping our Democracy. I live in a kibbutz where Arabs and Jews work together, our wonderful nurse is a Muslim, we are this week giving disabled youth, Jewish and Arab a holiday in our Kibbuts. For 20 years I directed an Arab Jewish theatre group in Haifa University.,There are thousands of other examples. The Gaza situation is never reported objectively in the U K media. They spend millions of dollars on weapons, instead of giving money to the Palestinians.
The situation of British Jews sounds quite precarious. Our community is large, united, devoted to our security - we have auxiliary police from our community. But we all know how easily tyranny can find its way to our shores, and our doors. British Jews have stood stalwart, and they had a great man as their Chief Rabbi, Jonathan Sachs. Our rabbi often quotes him. The shuls here all have security. You might consider emigrating. There is still great opportunity in America.

Some months ago, Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (known as AMLO) demanded an apology from the King of Spain for atrocities carried out in Mexico during the conquest. This made the Spanish Government very angry -I don’t think any apology was made. Living here, that reaction sounded bad, however much it might seem to you that the demand was ridiculous, and I get your point here. As I understand it, King Charles has taken the initiative to investigate the Royal family’s involvement in the slave trade. Will such an initiative undermine the monarchy’s position in Britain? Or will it strengthen its position? If it is seen to undermine the British monarchy, that will be because other groups take advantage of it, the sort of thing you were talking about. But an opposite movement will undoubtedly occur, one that appreciates Charles’ support for this research. Regarding your observations on racism and anti-Semitism in Britain, I shall make some of my own. When I was last in Britain about ten years ago, I met a Jewish friend of mine who was in the Communist Party since the 1960s. She was telling us about how people from India were showing off the wealth they had made in Britain, buying big houses with large gardens and so on. It seemed to be going in the direction you refer to, although you can find snobbery among the nouveau riche everywhere. A person close to me in Mexico, a Mexican on the Left, frequently talks about how the Jews here are dominating parts of the National University or how Jews used to exploit people in the community she grew up in. I’ve given up trying to correct her -she has clearly thought along those lines for a long time. However, I think she knows I don’t like to hear that sort of talk and I haven’t had to listen to her going on in this way for some time. At school (secondary modern, in a working-class area) in the 1960s, anti-Semitism was rife -among all the rest of it. In my class, two boys boasted about having painted swastikas on a local synagogue -attitudes I hope they have both put behind them long ago. I suspect one or other of them may have had Jewish origins and was seeking to quash gossip about him -he once went out with a girl whose father turned out to be a local bigwig businessman/local government official, who told him not to date his daughter because he was a “kike”. I and my sister suspect my mother’s family may have been non-practicing Jews. Whether or not my father knew about this, it didn’t stop him making the odd remark, such as “I bought these from a little Jew boy”; his racist comments about Africans and Indians originated from having lived some of his early years in South Africa. My consciousness about these matters really grew when I became political and entered a revolutionary party. But that was also a terrible experience for me because, despite Marx’s studies of alienation, I spent much of that time being alienated -the Bolshevik way.
Sorry, I cannot agree with Melanie Phillips over the judicial reform in Israel. Many people agree there should be judicial reform, just not what is currently proposed. As she rightly says, Israel lacks the checks and balances that are in place in the US and UK, but the current proposal puts the judiciary into the hands of the politicians where the executive and legislative branches already are. Another point is that the details of this reform were not published before the election, only after. So it is incorrect to say that the government had a clear mandate to go ahead, clearly shown by subsequent polls. Even the relatively large coalition majority is a quirk of the electoral system whereby two parties just failed to cross the minimum threshold. That means that the votes of at least four seats went to waste, whilst the coalition obtained a 64-56 majority. Swing 4 sets the other way and we are back at stalemate (again)!

Melanie says white European jews are the indigenous peoples of Palestine while Palestinians are not! If we compare the DNA of people buried there 2000 years ago, its remarkably similar to the dna of modern day Palestinians. Ita not so fir white European Jews.
