    Thanks guys for your vids, as a new keeper I have watched and watched. It was after watching this one again and again that gave me the confidence to order my first pokie. My P. regalis sling arrived today. It was a little fiesty on opening the pot and decided to do a lap outside the new enclosure. I had my catch pot ready, had a clear plan and it went very well! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

    I got a P regalis at a local reptile expo about two weeks ago. I got an awesome deal on it. It was 30 American dollars for about a 1.5 inch sling. I think the regalis is one of the most underrated tarantulas. Everyone always looks at the metalica and I think it detracts their attention from the other beautiful pokies

    • @marat5617
      @marat5617 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a beginner in the hobby...only about a year...and the P. Regalis was one of the first T's I adopted. I HAD to have one! They're so absolutely stunning and I can't wait for it to molt into it's color changes. The P.R was my first Old World species also. It's VERY shy and rarely comes out form behind its tree bark. But the tell tale poo is there on the front wall of the enclosure haha :) I love all of my spiders, but my P. Regalis is my #2 favorite!

  • @stxemo
    @stxemo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I got my P. Regalis on September 11th at 2 inches. It molted on November 2nd and then on December 15th. On February 18th it molted again into a 6 inch mature male. Temps were around 82 degrees. That’s some fast growth.

  • @mikejessmax
    @mikejessmax ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yep, I'm getting one. I'd call myself an intermediate keeper - quite sometime ago I kept Emperor scorpions, terrestrial Ts and a couple of giant centipedes. Got back into the hobby recently and have 5 new world terrestrials and one giant praying mantis. I've always admired the P. regalis, so it's time to step up into my first old world

    • @samanthageach3146
      @samanthageach3146 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend M. balfouri as a first old world. Even a small communal. They are pretty damn reluctant to bite and so beautiful. Of my four M. balfouri there is almost always at least one out on display and the blue legs are just stunning. But if you really admire regalis go for it! My first old world was an OBT and that went great. So if you feel ready then you 100% should. Just be aware that the speed of them is insane! But if you have kept fast arboreal new worlds like Tapinauchenius or Psalmopoeus (some of my fav genus') you will be juuuust fiiiine.

      Had my regalis for about a week now, 3" female. A bit of slight anxiety before the rehousing but she was super calm during the whole procedure. Originally wanted an H. pulchripes, but none available at the time. Can also pick up an M. balfouri juvenile female from the local supplier here which I still might do

    This species, like the entire genus, doesn't deserve the hate and fear it gets: I don't feel like they are aggressive at all and just really skittish. They get scared easily and can bolt, that for sure, but they are not as prone to biting as some people suggest and, if you move carefuly and slowly, they will usually stay calm

    I understand your points but I prefer big bark tubes anyway. There is no need to see your spider all the time. I think its more natural. And at night they are oftentimes hanging outside their shelters especially when they are hungry. But your "method" (cork bark wall) has some advantage too as u said. Only thing I would propably doing differently is that I would give that regalis longer cork bark. Especially pokies tend to stretch they feet on the wood.

  • @BuffNerdInCa
    @BuffNerdInCa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can tell when someone has skill and experience by how smoothly and easily they are able to do their craft. Have you had any problems with the mesh tops and any critters getting their tarsi stuck? I've seen it happen (long time ago) with a terrestrial... and it wasn't good. Looked like a scene from CliffHanger, but it wasn't Stallone hanging there. Not sure with the exoterra mesh. But would prefer not to be replacing meshes with acrylic if I don't need to.

    • @daveslittlebeasties
      @daveslittlebeasties  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like both for arboreals. A con with tubes is like you say, you have a hard time seeing them. A huge pro with tubes is that when you rehouse a pokie or other defenssive tarantula or one wuth strong venom is that it stays put ubside the tube, and you can just pick up the tube wuth tge spider inside and place it in the new enclosure

    • @daveslittlebeasties
      @daveslittlebeasties  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spring tails I don't bother with per se , if they are there I don't worry about them but I do think there over rated and don't really do what everyone said , I logical terms it would take literaly millions to clear a cricket😂😂, as for the substrate depth I have found when provided with a deep sub they normally kick it all out, so I tend to use good piece of bark half buried and find they soon become confident and there is no need for over deep substrate, the most important thing is that your spider is confident to sit outside its burrow .

    The only tarantula I own is a rose hair but I've been looking at getting one that's tougher to own and more exciting. I've been looking at a Poki or Theraphosa of some sort. I am fairly confident that I would be able to own one after watching all the techniques you use to contain and relocate the Tarantulas and learning about their enclosures and living conditions.
    Do you think these two are an okay idea? I figured as long as I remain calm and confident I wouldn't run into too many issues, though I could see how this might be a bit of an overconfident idea on my part.

I have one question, I like your exo terra terrariums for arboreal, I would like to use those myself, but what do you do about ventilation? Everyone talks about cross-ventilation, especially for arboreals, but I dont see that on your tanks and still you seem to manage without? Is it ok with only top ventilation or do you get ventilation from that metal piece under the doors? Is cross-ventilation preferred but not mandatory? Thank you for doing what you do!

    Hi Dave, just got my own P. regalis as a birthday present, only tiny at the moment but i'm planning to make the enclosure it will go into, what are the dimensions of the one you rehoused it from? Also, will you be rehousing your from the exo-terra or will that be its permanent home? keep up the good work.

      Hi there, that will be its permanent home, I find keeping them in small enclosures from slings as they grow just put them in something a little bigger each time , the tank she came out of was 16x16x21

      @@daveslittlebeasties perfect, my wallet thanks you. Would you still use a 20x20x30 for an Ornata or a Rufiliata? Also, great tip for touching the back legs with the brush, I was touching the abdomen and it was causing them to bolt, just had the easiest rehouse of my cambridgei that ive ever had because of it.

      @@beani5003 I have both those species in these tanks and only move them up to larger tanks when breeding as the males like a little more space, glad to hear your rehouse went well and the video helped you out.👍

    Ive had my poecilotheria regalis for 5 months from sling as a newcomer and not seen any aggression or defensive postures. Its always out on the glass. Is it right that they dont eat for 2 week before molt? Mine eats like a pig for 3 week then doesmt eat for so many days until molt.
