Volvo I-Shift output play (230k miles)

  • Having issue with vibration while driving. While checking every shaft notice this play in output yoke on transmission backing plate.
    Please let me know in the comments if this is normal or excessive?

    It's normal, the large planetary gear have looseness. Its actually rocking at output bearing. That's why seal not leaking. It has .038 inch end play. Under a load the gears spread out and are coated in oil, play is reduced. Hard to believe but it's true

      Thank you for your input. I had to go to Volvo dealer and check if their brand new trucks have same play. I found out even brand new trucks have some play in it.
      I guess I’ll have to test my injectors with PTT

    Looks like a cleaner version of the same problem I am having. The driver complaint was the truck would shake. Checked driveline and the only thing I found was play at the transmission output. Does yours shake the whole truck.

      I have on my peterbilt...shake all truck

    this is most likely a problem with the injectors
