    According to Excellence magazine, Nicolas Abboud's 2004 Porsche 911 might be the best 996-gen GT3 in the world! And while this might sound like a bold statement, it is very difficult to argue with the numbers. More than 500 hp from a 4.2 engine and a curb weight of 1210 kg, are not the numbers you expect in car that is road legal, still keeps most amenities and could be daily driven as any normal 911. After all this is the only 4.2 Manthey Racing GT3 in the world and it takes more than a big budget to convince Olaf Manthey to get involved on project like this. Enjoy Nicolas explain in detail the whole build and then take it for its first run around Spa-Francorchamps!

    996 GT3 and the E46 CSL were like the pinnacles of everything that was good about 2000s cars.

      I have just received my new toy from Manthey Racing, a 997 GT3 RS 4.4 MR, which is the first street legal 4.4L 911 to have a matching number. The car ways 1270kg and has a 997 GT3 R chassis with the first 4-way suspension. It has 560 hp, and 14% more torque than the 992 GT3 RS, and passed the TÜV. The project took more than a year with Manthey 😁

    Beautiful car and cool story. I have a 996 rturbo that has a full MR carbon fiber/ carbon Kevlar body. We were able to drop nearly 500 lbs with the car after all is said and done.
    I have the doors he’s referring to, and they are a true work of art. The fact that you can retain the factory door panel is so awesome I think

    I totally get it! 996 & 997 cars are just so sweet and not too big to hassle around. My 996 feels so cozy inside and upto now felt nicely composed on track. The 46m3 in the other half of the garage must be feeling a bit left out......

    • @nicolasabboud7703
      @nicolasabboud7703 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi there. I picked the MK2 because I find it the most fun to drive at its extreme on the track. I am currently working with Manthey on a 997 GT RS 4.4L MR with more than 550hp and extreme chassis and low weight, to make it the most street legal 997🙂

    • @nicolasabboud7703
      @nicolasabboud7703 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Elliot, the car doors are not in Carbon, but special made in Kevlar. They only weigh 3.7 kg each, and they have the same finish standard as the original doors (no like the cup carbon doors). They were special made by a supplier to Manthey. You can contact Michael Grassl at Manthey for more info.

I have invested more than price of a 991 GT3 RS in it, and it is the only Porsche approved 4.2L 996 with matching engine numbers, and they will not allow a second one (you would not imagine what I had to do to get this). So it is a real collector! What do you think it is worth?

    Why do you say carbon ceramics don't last?? I thought it was exactly the opposite!

    • @nicolasabboud5413
      @nicolasabboud5413 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi there, the ceramics don't last for heavy track use. The disks are supposed to last 300K km in normal use, but on the track, they did't last more than 8K km. A lots of cracks appear, and when they reach 1.5 mm in length, the disks have to be replaced. But I must say that I prefer the steel racing break. The breaking distance is the same, but the feel is nicer. You can get more precision, whereas with carbon it is all or nothing;

    • @typ930
      @typ930 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicolasabboud5413 Thank you for your reply! Its interesting that its very common to hear there is no need to go with carbon ceramics unless you will do heavy track time. I guess the only positive thing is weight saving, right?

    • @nicolasabboud5413
      @nicolasabboud5413 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@typ930 Not even, the steel racing disks almost weigh the same as carbon. Manthey Racing uses steel break on all its racing cars, including the RSRs. The advantage of carbon is that they have a better resistance to heat. so in my case, with the steel breaks I can do 7-8 laps before the breaks start to heat whereas with the carbon I can do 9-10 laps. That is the only real difference. But with the steel, I am 0.5 second faster at Le Mans, and this is because I can push the breaking to later in the curve, whereas the Carbon all of nothing does not allow me to keep the car in control at the start of the curve while breaking.

    • @mrmonday42
      @mrmonday42 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@typ930 Many reviewers say you should get carbon ceramics if you track a lot and it always bothers me. Anyone who tracks a lot is using steel unless they are made of money.
