Had a BN 72 & a growing family needing more room got it traded for a family sedan. Replaced it a coupla decades later with a big block MC & one of those kids I got rid of my first one for totaled it & walked away without a scrstch. I’ll soon be 72. Kids are all gone & so are the early MC’s. Doesn’t hurt to dream.

Correct! The horseshoe shifter was available from '68-'72 in Chevelles, El Caminos, Monte Carlos, Camaros, and Impalas. I'm the guy with the patent for my design of my detent plates that let you convert the horse shoe shifters to a True Slap shifter. My designs let you slap the handle for a positive 1-2 shift, and you can do the same slap again for the 2-3 shift. Unlike my competition, there's no need to squeeze the handle at all for either positive shift. I have them for 3 and 4 speed automatics, (with standard patterns and reverse patterns) and now I have them for some Buicks and Oldsmobiles. DPJ Fabricating, LLC. I have TH-cam videos that can easily be found by searching with the words True Slap detent. Thanks!

Just to set the record straight a Monte Carlo 454 SS was not called a banker's Chevelle. The term is "bankers hot rod" and many cars fell into that category such as the Chrysler 300, 427 Caprice and the Mercury Marauder. Big luxurious cars with big block high performance engines and dual exhaust.

Alot of people think the 4 speed was available in Montes with the 454 in '70 and '71, but that's not true. I have a '70 SS454 and I've studied them extensively. I also had a '71 with a 402 big block and a 4 speed. What I've read about the 4 speed with a 454 was with Chevrolet having other cars being offered with a 4 speed and a 454, they decided to reserve the combination for Corvettes and Chevelles. The Monte Carlo was mostly marketed as more of a luxury car.

"in 71 you can get an LS6 which is 450 horse" only on the Chevelle.

In 70 you could get 450 hp in a Chevelle SS. Nobody is sure any were put in Monte Carlos. In 71 power was down to 425 hp.

Chevrolet says the LS6 was never available for the Monte and history, so far, has shown this to be true. The highest horsepower they installed in the Monte was the LS5, 454. It had 360 hp in '70, and 365 hp in '71.

No LS6's were ever put in First Gen Monte Carlos.
