There is a long history of unforeseen consequences due to laws in United States history, and it isn’t localized to one side, you are only being this critical because of who it is. To comply with federal law in state government is typical, if anyone should be held responsible it should be the federal regulators in law making. How is it his fault he did his job? I'm willing to give a pass if and only if they immediately call out the false dichotomy in the question if such a question is asked. The California prison system was overcrowded not for over incarceration. That release of felons aproach was to solve overcrowding not considering the consequences of releasing felons on the public.

They should have let out all the non violent drug offenders not dealers just the people who got caught with some weed or a heroin addict who could be released to a rehab and if they complete it they get out. I actually don’t think it’s the judge’s fault. Cruz is asking the complete wrong question. He usually does well in these judicial hearings, but he comes across as kinda dense in this one tbh. He shouldn’t be asking about the candidates intent regarding a bill passed by his (at-the-time) boss. He should be asking if he personally supported the bill then ask if, when he supported the bill, he was was aware of the effect it would have.

As a person who drafted the bill he can speak as to its intent, therefore he would know if the law was being applied based on its intent or being manipulated to suit their needs. Being able to identify this is a key job of a judge. The fact that he couldn't even answer what the intent was of his own bill is a massive red flag. How can we have judges making decisions about the application of laws when they can't even make a determination on their own laws?
