You are right, Emrakul was the one who drove Avacyn mad. Avacyn began to suffer delirium and psychosis, she saw Jace and Tamiyo as monsters until she regained a little bit of sanity and was killed by Sorin.

Thats when she went insane and so Sorin destroyed her as seen in the card Anguish Unmaking. Avacyn was so powerful that she would be able to defend Innistrad against Emrakul, nahiri couldn't kill her, so she had to force Sorin the creator to undo her. Only AFTER Avacyn died, Nahiri was able to draw Emrakul to Innistrad.

I’d love to see green, beastial trample angels and white lifelinking demons alongside red Sphinx... just think it’d be cool to see the vision of these iconic creature types in a plane that shifted them around... would just spice it all up!
if that's going to work they should mass-produce a whole bunch of them in their normal colors & a whole bunch of multicolored pairings, then I think that'll set the stage for those creature types start wiggling around a bit more in the color wheel.

Another fun fact is that at the end of Eldritch Moon, Thalia who was blessed by the Geist of Saint Traft and wielding Avacyn's broken spear, teamed up with the Angel Sigarda to defeat the fused and corrupted forms of Gisela and Bruna.
Given the fairly German style names on Innistrad, this angel's name is probably meant to be pronounced Lee-sa. Regardless, it's great to have a card featuring her, and it looks like a sweet one at that!
I plan to build her with life swapping win cons like Selenia decks. Her unique commander tax ability is what I would focus on. You can sacrifice her repeatedly without driving up the mana cost, while getting yourself to low life for a big Repay in Kind. She's a bit worse than Selenia for comboing off out of nowhere, but her Kambal effect and better combat stats more than make up for it. Can't wait to brew!

At one point when you talk about Gisela you confuse her with Sigarda (3:10 - 3:24). That said I love Sigarda. If we go back to innistrad I would like to see the story of her, as the main person of that lore, picking up the pieces after the Emrakul events, restoring a balance between the people and the dark forces and ascending, elected by the people of innistrad, as the new archangel and protector of the plane.
Sigarda is also my favorite of the Innistrad Archangels I have a Sigarda, Host of Herons enchantment Voltron commander deck. I am also interested in returning to Innistrad to see Sigarda now as the last protector of Innistrad against the dark forces. Luckily now that Sorin is free from his stony imprisonment she has backup at least on the vampire front and Thalia bonded with Saint Traft to lead the humans. In the end though Sigarda isn't really elected to her position it is basically thrust upon her since there is no one left to take on that job.
well we're getting 2 Innistrad sets at the end of 2021/start of 2022 so she'll likely make an appearance somewhere, in card and/or in story. the only thing they've revealed so far about the sets is one is vamp focused and the other werewolf. they also hinted at a 'vampire wedding' so that's gonna be a big event. considering Sigarda is the only archangel left and Thalia, now blessed by Saint Traft, is pretty much the head of what remains of the church alongside Odric, it'll be interesting to see how they come into play with the wedding. my guess is either Olivia is marrying Sorin for politics and power and they're trying to stop it or Sorin(or someone of his choice and beliefs) is marrying into the church to help protect humanity and the 3 will be helping, maybe even be one of the ones getting married to a vampire.
She is also my favorite archangel of Innistrad. Have you ever thought about the possibility of her coming back with 5 colors since she's the only one left? So she has taken upon the mantle of all her sisters flights? That would be amazing, but pretty hard to happen. I remember a short story in a Magic the Gathering Anthology that say the color of a angle wings represent how "Pure" they are. Like a angle that constantly kill criminal wing will change color and turn more hawk like in features. her wings are Tiped black and with her life stealing ability I think she learn so Black Magic leading to some of these changes.
Liesa is either going into the 99 of my Kahmbal deck, or replacing him as leader. it's a mostly death and taxes build with a bit of extra lifegain synergies so paying the life for spells or even her commander tax won't be hard. gonna play a few games with her as leader to see if having her power always on hand is better or worse than having Kahmbal's drain.
How were your experiments? I myself swapped Kambal with Liesa, he's now part of the 99 and still very useful, but Liesa imo can be more annoying since she punishes more than just noncreature spells.
Wait I remember Edgar Markov using angel blood to invoke the rite for them to become vampires on Innistrad. In the commander precon artwork for Blood Tribute, we see Edgar bestowing the blood( gift) to Oliva Voldarian, Sorin, etc. The blood is in a container that is seeping out from a stone angel. I assumed that was the fate of our mystery 4th angel. Kinda a let down from blood sacrifice for immortal vampire coven to murdered by your new, more powerful replacement.
There is something interesting about Liesa's spear. Looks like a prototype for Avacyn's. Would that means something? EDIT: BTW I saw some stuff here. Looks like the Innistran angels are based on the main christian angels. Gisela, as Saint Michael. The most beligerent one. Bruna, as Raphael. The healer, both body and soul. Sigarda, as Gabriel. The closest to human beings. And then Liesa, as Uriel, more obscure compared to the others.

The difference between Liesa and Sigarda is that Sigarda was converting werewolves, animalistic creatures that were a part of a sense of nature of the plane, they fit an ecological role, Liesa was consorting with sentient, malevolent, knowingly evil forces.

I would plan to build this deck more on the flavor of her background. A mixture of human tokens, angels and demons and heavily leaning into the paying life theme with lots of lifegain to offset it. Just to underscore her idea of making pacts with the creatures of darkness to make them protect her charges. and it sometimes blowing up in her face. Like the feaster of fools just greedily devouring all the humans that helped convoke him. It probably wont work very well. but it is super flavorfull!
you miss quoted lore its not nahiri that corrupts avacyn its the eldrazi titan emrakkul as she was corrupting everything on the plane including ghisella and bruna or did you forget that.

No. Only demons can come back, over and over again, after being slain. Other sapient creatures like humans, angels, and devils die when they die, and only come back if resurrected by other forces. Demons, like in Greek and other ancient ancient mythologies, are sent to where they come from, reform, and then find their way back to the world of the living when ready. The Helvault was simply a prison for them, so that whatever was forced inside of it, stayed inside of it. Before Liliana shattered it.
She would go into my angel deck, but Gisela is and will always be the commander of it unless I can find a Mardu angel commander that has better effects than Gisela's double damage/half damage taken... Until such an angel exists, I'll probably just get Liesa and put her in my collection along with her sisters.
You could play Tariel, while the ability is not as immediately powerful as Gisela it does give the deck a different angle to generate value and a suitable back-up plan
Hey there, after cracking open both foil Liesa and Vault of Champions in a booster, I decided it must've been a sign and made myself a commander deck with her. As much as I would've loved for it to be Angel tribal, unfortunately I only put in some of the lifelink angels and token generators from Kaldheim, alongside Angel of Destiny and decided that was it. Starnheim Aspirant, however, is a definite must if your commander is an angel, and it has great synergy with Liesa since I cast her by just paying 2 white and 1 black, alongside the commander tax in life. That said, my white black Liesa deck is mostly based on drain and lifelink so casting her will not be a pain on myself, plus with all the lifegain I can add black's card draw with life loss. She was eliminated, the memory of her and even her name were erased. In the lore of Innistrad, Sigarda (the G/W) sister mentions that "she must have defended her sister from other sisters", but she doesn't say even Liesa's name

@@ChristiantrospectiveGamer I think tossing Lovecraftian themes into a world full of monsters really makes the aberrant stuff stick out much better in my opinion. It created this interesting dynamic of what is and isn't corrupted dealing with the old and new threats. It twisted a pretty typical gothic horror plane into something completely different while leaving the plane open to revisit later to follow up on the aftermath and new normal of Innistrad. It also had really cool Bloodbourne vibes, and that game was an absolute blast so that might skew my bias a little.
@Mullerornis Theyre mana constructs. If they are important enough they'll reform. I hope gisella and bruna reform also because they had important functions on the plane. Liesa did not reform because she was replaced by sorin and his superior construct. Liesa was defective and replaced by a god until a stronger god corrupted her replacement and all the other angels on innistrad. That is like being upset that razia was replaced by feather who was then replaced by aurelia.
@Mullerornis trying to waifu cardboard isnt a good look. Just because the various mana constructs are self aware doesnt mean they function the same way as the mortal races in fantasy. People like zurgo, gideon, and ugin are mortals with souls whos deaths would result in true death barring a way to preseve their souls while various demons angels and certain elementals are concepts made physical because they are bound to mana. Liesas defect is that she is the concept behind betraying the many to save the few, which led to her undoing because edgar markov made a pact with the demon shilgengar and was gifted angel's blood which was used to create the first vampires on innistrad. Avacyn on the other hand is the representation of the less selfish ideal that instead of allowing suffering of others to continue from continued pacts with evil that humanity should compassionately defend those that cannot. In a way sorin was a victim of liesas flaw who instead of staying a victim like many do on innistrad because they ended up dead was able to try to make the world better for others. He never intended for avacyn to kill liesa, but his idea of helping others even if you sacrificed yourself was naturally in opposition of the inherent selfishness of helping flesh eating soul devouring monsters to save yourself. Thats why the other angels didnt help her not out of cruelty but because the core concepts they were created to defend were inherently undermined by liesas.

Demons are creatures who buy the soul of a young girl to teach her healing magic and instead teach them necormantic death magic cause their ailling brother to kill their entire family because it seemed amusing at the time. Liesa isnt telling the demons to stop swiping souls shes the emobodyment of mothers leaving their children in the closet so the vampire will eat her instead. She was flawed from her birth and was replaced by a more effective construct that saved people instead of granting half measures.

Like a angle that constantly kill criminal wing will change color and turn more hawk like in features. her wings are Tiped black and with her life stealing ability I think she learn so Black Magic leading to some of these changes.
Liesa is either going into the 99 of my Kahmbal deck, or replacing him as leader. it's a mostly death and taxes build with a bit of extra lifegain synergies so paying the life for spells or even her commander tax won't be hard. gonna play a few games with her as leader to see if having her power always on hand is better or worse than having Kahmbal's drain.
How were your experiments? I myself swapped Kambal with Liesa, he's now part of the 99 and still very useful, but Liesa imo can be more annoying since she punishes more than just noncreature spells.
Did you call Gisella, sigarda in her description?
Wait I remember Edgar Markov using angel blood to invoke the rite for them to become vampires on Innistrad. In the commander precon artwork for Blood Tribute, we see Edgar bestowing the blood( gift) to Oliva Voldarian, Sorin, etc. The blood is in a container that is seeping out from a stone angel. I assumed that was the fate of our mystery 4th angel. Kinda a let down from blood sacrifice for immortal vampire coven to murdered by your new, more powerful replacement.

The difference between Liesa and Sigarda is that Sigarda was converting werewolves, animalistic creatures that were a part of a sense of nature of the plane, they fit an ecological role, Liesa was consorting with sentient, malevolent, knowingly evil forces.

I would plan to build this deck more on the flavor of her background.
A mixture of human tokens, angels and demons and heavily leaning into the paying life theme with lots of lifegain to offset it.
Just to underscore her idea of making pacts with the creatures of darkness to make them protect her charges. and it sometimes blowing up in her face. Like the feaster of fools just greedily devouring all the humans that helped convoke him.
It probably wont work very well. but it is super flavorfull!
Maybe add a "Promise of Power" in there as well. You draw cards to represent forbidden knowledge and you can summon a demon.

Well it was nahiri who brought emerakul so technically he is correct in that it is nahiri who corrupted avacyn.

She is responsible for the confinement of Sorin but the corruption of Avacyn. no . She is the instrument that cause her to be corrupted but not the one to corrupt. Big difference.

No. Only demons can come back, over and over again, after being slain. Other sapient creatures like humans, angels, and devils die when they die, and only come back if resurrected by other forces. Demons, like in Greek and other ancient ancient mythologies, are sent to where they come from, reform, and then find their way back to the world of the living when ready. The Helvault was simply a prison for them, so that whatever was forced inside of it, stayed inside of it. Before Liliana shattered it.
She would go into my angel deck, but Gisela is and will always be the commander of it unless I can find a Mardu angel commander that has better effects than Gisela's double damage/half damage taken... Until such an angel exists, I'll probably just get Liesa and put her in my collection along with her sisters.
You could play Tariel, while the ability is not as immediately powerful as Gisela it does give the deck a different angle to generate value and a suitable back-up plan

Hey there, after cracking open both foil Liesa and Vault of Champions in a booster, I decided it must've been a sign and made myself a commander deck with her. As much as I would've loved for it to be Angel tribal, unfortunately I only put in some of the lifelink angels and token generators from Kaldheim, alongside Angel of Destiny and decided that was it. Starnheim Aspirant, however, is a definite must if your commander is an angel, and it has great synergy with Liesa since I cast her by just paying 2 white and 1 black, alongside the commander tax in life.
That said, my white black Liesa deck is mostly based on drain and lifelink so casting her will not be a pain on myself, plus with all the lifegain I can add black's card draw with life loss. If you're interested in the list, you can check it here: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3642453#paper

You mixed up the names a lot in this and it got very confusing real fast.
Unfortunately Innistrad was ruined because of Eldrazi. Completely pointless storyline considering what happened with Nicol Bolas and now with Nahiri still running around Zendikar.
I think they wanted to do a Lovecraft thing sense Eldrazi are basically Great Old ones.
@@Underworlddream I know that's what they were doing, but it was already a horror world with a theme. It would have been better to add the Lovecraftian theme to a different plane like Ravnica or Dominaria.
@@ChristiantrospectiveGamer I think tossing Lovecraftian themes into a world full of monsters really makes the aberrant stuff stick out much better in my opinion. It created this interesting dynamic of what is and isn't corrupted dealing with the old and new threats. It twisted a pretty typical gothic horror plane into something completely different while leaving the plane open to revisit later to follow up on the aftermath and new normal of Innistrad. It also had really cool Bloodbourne vibes, and that game was an absolute blast so that might skew my bias a little.

@Mullerornis Theyre mana constructs. If they are important enough they'll reform. I hope gisella and bruna reform also because they had important functions on the plane. Liesa did not reform because she was replaced by sorin and his superior construct. Liesa was defective and replaced by a god until a stronger god corrupted her replacement and all the other angels on innistrad. That is like being upset that razia was replaced by feather who was then replaced by aurelia.
@Mullerornis trying to waifu cardboard isnt a good look. Just because the various mana constructs are self aware doesnt mean they function the same way as the mortal races in fantasy. People like zurgo, gideon, and ugin are mortals with souls whos deaths would result in true death barring a way to preseve their souls while various demons angels and certain elementals are concepts made physical because they are bound to mana. Liesas defect is that she is the concept behind betraying the many to save the few, which led to her undoing because edgar markov made a pact with the demon shilgengar and was gifted angel's blood which was used to create the first vampires on innistrad. Avacyn on the other hand is the representation of the less selfish ideal that instead of allowing suffering of others to continue from continued pacts with evil that humanity should compassionately defend those that cannot. In a way sorin was a victim of liesas flaw who instead of staying a victim like many do on innistrad because they ended up dead was able to try to make the world better for others. He never intended for avacyn to kill liesa, but his idea of helping others even if you sacrificed yourself was naturally in opposition of the inherent selfishness of helping flesh eating soul devouring monsters to save yourself. Thats why the other angels didnt help her not out of cruelty but because the core concepts they were created to defend were inherently undermined by liesas.

You seem to think innistrad is like mexico from dora the explorer and liesa just needed to show up and tell the monsters killing is wrong. Demons are creatures who buy the soul of a young girl to teach her healing magic and instead teach them necormantic death magic cause their ailling brother to kill their entire family because it seemed amusing at the time. Liesa isnt telling the demons to stop swiping souls shes the emobodyment of mothers leaving their children in the closet so the vampire will eat her instead. She was flawed from her birth and was replaced by a more effective construct that saved people instead of granting half measures.

also lesser demons bound to a planeswalker who provides them with mana are nowhere close to demons like ormendahl and writhengar who are unbound and require sacrifices to survive. Demons, like angels, are mana constructs with an inborn purpose. Most demons were born to flay flesh and torment souls. To say demons are good is like pointing to niv mizzet and saying all dragons are benevolent when most are like ojutai. Also you act like avacyn smote indiscriminately when she tried to provide all the werewolves that wanted it clarity from her cursemute instead of beastial savagery.
