Odric is salvageable if you add, (1) sacrifice a blood token: give all creatures you control( a keyword from list of keywords) from a creature you control until the end of your next turn. It still keeps his general status in lore , does boros tricks, strong enough for the limit of paying mana and sacrificing blood, and actually plays well with his newfound vampirism. wizards did this guy dirty and it's gotta change. I'll probably make a proxy for it
Honestly Odric’s card feels more like an uncommon legendary the fact that it was made a rare feels like a slap in the face. He could at least maintain some dignity in the power level of his card was the same but the rarity was downgraded.
@@forgottonpast6847 I see where you're comming from but he's far from the first rare legend to be on the weak side. We also have cards like Tatyova that should have been rares but are uncommon. WOTC don't always get it right with the rarities
Well... I guess that explains how Odric fell to vampirism. I wonder how will he be able to hold his sanity and morals. Talia has one hell of a job ahead of her. Depending on how Crimson Vow Ends, we might see a cliffhanger for a new Innistrad. There's a lot of thing left open.
Thanks for sharing and telling this story. As a huge Odric and Thalia and Innastrad fan I was so saddened when I heard that he had become a vampire.. but this story gives me hope that he literally can be a “blade” character moving forward. I was honestly disappointed that Thalia didn’t get a new card (just a reprint) and Odrics card was very bad but.. when we eventually revisit innastrad again I’m hoping that they will be more prevalent in the main story like they have been in the past. The overall idea of midnight hunt and crimson vow was cool but all these bloody PWs taking up the limelight was annoying.
That was a great short story. Interesting how this happened before the current story, I was expecting it to be a current event during the wedding. Now I want to see Henrika Vs Odric in the undercard before the main event 😆. Nice to see Odric is in the good side.. too bad the card design was poor.
This oddly was in one of my saved music playlists and instead of skipping it I listened to it again. Odric had such a good story which you told beautifully. I only wish it transferred to a good card for him. Hopefully we will get a new card if we go back to Innistrad for him.
This was actually quite interesting. And gruesome as blood horror should be. Side stories for this Innistrad seem to be slightly better written than the main plot ones, actually. I don't think the Traftians should make an appearance just for the sake of it, but a future Innistrad set should definitely come back to them.

Agreed! I’ve always felt Edgar’s actions were rather allegory for some darker forms of real world family violence. But it is very interesting the way Edgar was introduced…it does seem that he suffers with Stockholm Syndrome.
what I'm realizing from this is that whether he knows it or not, Sorin just got another ageless peer to go to for help in defense of his home, who isn't so prideful as to run the world like a secret game of chess. Arlynn was the first link, Odric is the second.
They did Odric dirty in his card. They should have done something that was a payoff for blood tokens rather than a blood token generator. Something like sacrifice a blood token and odric gets X out of the word soup abilities.
Not gonna lie his card isn’t as bad as people say it is. It’s useful in draft or sealed, in a Boros or naya beatdown commander deck it’s pretty good to get card selection, and as a commander it’s pretty solid for Boros. Love him, and his cards.
I will not argue about commander because that depends on the power level of the table. I would say he is a little slow as commander. You need to play Keyword soup + Flicker/Blink stuff and of cause the payoff to get value of him but it is doable just slow. I can see a nice reanimaterish play style with him or just go with the artifact theme. I just think that there are better commanders for that but hey is EDH. If you really like the character why not. But limited? I cannot see why you should ever pick him. The whole boros limited theme was 'attacking with 2 creatures'. In addition the blood token strategy is in Rakdos (and sadly mostly in black just 2 red ones). You could splash white but not for him, when you have so much better blood token generators in those colors. The dependency on keywords for a mediocre effect is just backbreaking. There are only 22 common/uncommon in the whole set in this 3 colors with keywords and there are repeating like 7 of them have flying. He would do nothing if you are behind and getting 1 or 2 blood tokens will not cut it. When not playing black the whole blood token thing is nearly useless in limited. I mean yeah you could discard a land when you have enough Lands on the battlefield for an additional card of 1 mana but your deck will be compromised with card to make him work or he will be a 3/3 vanilla/generate one blood token for 3 Mana. There are cards better suited for limited like Belligerent Guest a common, Bloodtithe Harvester an uncommon with similar stats for 2 mana, Falkenrath Forebear a rare that can do something with the blood tokens in addition to generate some nearly effortless or Voldaren Bloodcaster which is just superior in any means. I don't know why new Odric has this kind of effect. I mean yeah I get it, the effect is similar to the last iteration of him. But the old Odric was kind of a battlefield specialist or war leader and when he was in command your creature were better in fighting (sharing their keywords, doing some teamwork). This one is doing what? He sucks the blood of your creatures with different keywords so you can have some vials around? The whole blood token stuff doesn't fit the character or the color combination he is in (in the set and as a whole because there is not enough vampire/blood token stuff in boros). It feels forced and I hate to say it but lazy. Could an additional keyword make him better? Sure but still why does he support a mechanic that requires different colors to work? In short: I wouldn't run him in limited or as commander at the moment. If the blood token support in this colors increase in the future maybe. Arterial Alchemy from the commander precon is a great direction for example. I can see why somebody would run him in commander, tho. There was a keyword soup deck in Boros with the Partner commander Akroma, Vision of Ixidor and Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh. I think he would be okay there.
He needs to be plainswalking to domineria to meet Baron Sengir , the Sengir bloodline, and Grandmother Sengir.. only hope of redeaming himself is by having a bloodline of vampires who work with humans already.
I didn’t realize his story took place during Eldritch Moon and the death of Avacyn. Meaning the events of this story happened 2 years prior to Crimson Vow even occuring. That begs the question, what happened to Odric since this took place?
Mark my words, when next we return to Innistrad, it will be because of New Phyrexia making waves there! Then, and only then, when that happens, will we get a much larger role of the Order of Saint Traft, led by Thalia, and Blade-ric (what I'm calling Odric now, because he is literally the "Blade" vampire of this plane). I also believe that Blade-ric and Sorin Markov will have some "beef" to cook, involving Olivia Voldaren and Edgar Markov, who are both the new vampire villains of the Plane. But I believe that New Phyrexia will have designs on this plane as well. We might just see Sheoldred be the New Phyrexian threat, this time around (as we have already gotten Vorinclex, and Jin-Gitaxias). And a "black" Phyrexian praetor would just be so sickeningly appropriate for a dark plane like Innistrad!
Agreed. I’m interested to see what happens when he meets Sorin. Both are very strong leaders, both have Innistrad’s best interest at heart and pragmatic motives (we know this is true for Sorin, but the fact that Sorin invokes the truce at the beginning of this encounter reflects his own pragmatic strengths.) This could be the light at the end of the tunnel for humanity.

personally I think slapping a (1):sacrifice a blood token give a (keyword from list of keywords) to each creature you control until the end of your next turn. that fixes like 99% of the problems with the card
The Odric card is not that bad, come onn Really, goes really well into Osgir type decks, the ability to make a a lot of artifacts at once (and you are in white, so blinking him is VERY much an option) is really good for stuff like Affinitty or Improvise, or Aether Grid type effects
He may have a not so great card… but Odric is BIGGER than his playability. Now he is Blade for MTG.
All we need is a scene where he kills some blood suckers in a sprinkler systems rain of blood.

Well at least he’s not evil suddenly, I was curious how he’d behave as a vampire but his consecrated blood makes sense.
Sorin and Edgar both have retained their standards and sanity. Odric has been fighting the good fight for a long time, not to mention his wards.

She was. It took a large portion of Sorin's pre-mending power to create her, power he no longer has
