      @@StoneWarehousetv Ok, .. it might be a while ... it hasn't stopped raining hard since I ordered (of course) and I need to cement the edging so could do with a dry day, hopefully dry weekend coming up. Currently the trench is more like a little stream ha ha. I have a concrete section I can jack the cars up etc and I plan to widen either side around a modest extra 15 m2 in total. The calculator helped to estimate the gravel needed. I really don't like the pebble thing that's popular? It spreads all over the road and pavement etc. So trying the gravel grid for the first time, with black basalt? I'll let you know? Good price by the way and good delivery. Had a chat with you guys and girls on the phone. Very happy. I just need to locate my tin of elbow grease!

    Ignore the part about safety, thats asking for an accident, hes using an angle grinder whilst on the membrane so it could then catch the membrane if he cuts all the way tbrough, it then tells you to wear gloves in the next image, you never wear gloves with any rotating saw or bladed machinery as that will snag and pull you into the blade, as well as meaning they will have to use tweazers to pull every fibre of that glove out of the wound

    Can I ask, why is it best to avoid rounded stones? I’ve got some spare cobbles (little pebbles) the right size but they are rounded. The area would be for light, infrequent use. Could I get away with using them?

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use rounded stones but they do move around more so won't be as suitable for a driveway. However if you aren't going to use the area much then there is no problem in using them.

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We wouldn't recommend using sand to stop weeds as they will grow up through it. We suggest using a weed membrane as this is a more effective way of stopping weed growth.

    Remember this is an advertisement for a product. Here's how to do it without unnecessary expense and cost:
    • Grade for drainage.
    • Add 2-4" of road base, not clean rock.
    • That''s it.

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Zane, if you leave the gravel grid exposed it would be easier to push a wheel chair over it though still not an ideal solution for wheelchair access. However if there is still gravel on top of the grid it would make pushing a wheelchair over it more difficult. Kind regards Stone Warehouse

    I have two large trees on either side of the area in which I would like to install a drive, don’t want to use concrete as it require roots to be cut out, can this be installed over tree roots, granted they may shift it up over time?

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the tree roots are raised out of the ground it would be quite difficult to install this over them as they don't bend that much. Also as you mention, over time they would raise up. You would be better just using gravel around the roots and maybe starting the grid away from the tree.

    Hi, great little vid. I'm extending our driveway, so if I were to send you the dimensions of the area, could you tell me what qty of grids, hardcore, membrane and gravel that i'd need please and supply all in one delivery? also, the drive is on a slight slope, are there any extra considerations in using this method? Thanks. Si.

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Si, we do have a gravel calculator on our website that can help you with working out quantities - www.stonewarehouse.co.uk/tools/calculator at the moment we are unfortunately out of stock of the hardcore but can supply the gravel and grids. The grids are sold in m2 so you would just need to purchase enough to cover the meter squarage of your space. A slight slope is no issue, the grids are designed to be used on sloped areas 😊. If you have any problems, feel free to come back to us!

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cuthberto1986 yes you can put the grids straight onto grass but it is likely to grow up through the gravel. You can put weed membrane down on top of the grass which would hopefully supress it for a while and as it's a temporary solution that should work better for you.

    Hi can I ask I'm taking on a DIY project to do my driveway for 2 small cars, I have the grids,.
    I am replacing the grass in garden, I would like to ask do I need hardcore base? Or Can I put straight onto a mud base, I'm worried about drainage if I compact it down, and would the grids sink into the mud base, making uneven ? Please advise

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Karl, the grids can be laid straight onto a mud base but it would need to be firm and solid. Mud is still permeable even compacted so water will still drain away. However we can't guarantee that on a drive the grids wouldn't sink into the mud slightly over time, however if this happens you may just have to re-distribute your gravel, or get a bit more to top up as we do suggest having a layer of gravel to cover the grids. We would always recommend using a sub-base on a drive but it isn’t essential.

    • @StoneWarehousetv
      @StoneWarehousetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@karldann3107 a sub-base of compact hardcore like MOT Type 1 or similar is also porous so water will drain away. However you can use a weed membrane and sand if you would prefer. That will be a more cost effective solution.
