    Just did one of these myself. Had some grids left from a drive product. Only needed to buy a few extra for a 4x7 shed. Hard core 20mm to dust makes it easier to level. However on top of the gride have created a timber frame. Gives the shed more height and helps prevent splashing up the shed sides. I did fill in the grid with gravel, only where the grid was exposed. Saved me a lot of time. A lot easier than paving slabs

      Hi, I'm very interested in laying one of these so thanks for your helpful info. Can you explain a little more what you mean by ''Hard core 20mm to dust''.... , do you mean that's a kind of sand,...an alternative filler to pebbles?

      Crazeybongo hi, yes we would! Ours is holding up really well, the only negative point we have is a couple of weeds that have made their way through on the area round the edge that doesn’t have the shed on. Nothing a bit of weed killer can’t fix though!

    Thank you for this. I note you just put gravel around the edge. I am planning a 5 x 4 m shed in my back garden (yes we do need that big) and have budgeted about £4000 (ouch). The spanner in the works is the cost of the gravel. Calculate need of 4 bulk bags which undermines the cost saving of a plastic base (which seems best). However if I can get away with just one bulk bag around the edge then the project may be back on the cards.

    • @thediytribe8424
      @thediytribe8424  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It seems to be holding out just fine for us with the gravel just round the edge. We only used one bag - here are our costs if that helps :)
      Our plot for the EcoBase is 7m x 4.5m (so just over 30m2) and the grid cost a total of £578 including VAT. We used 1 ton of sharp sand which cost £45 and 1 ton of polar white gravel which cost £140 pounds. So our total cost was £763 pounds

      In the UK gardens are typically quite small and most of the time there isnt room to set sheds back from fences. Looks like this was set too close to the left as it looks like the roof overhangs the fence. Could do with being moved 10cm to the right. Large sheds like this installed in UK at the bottom of gardens often run fence to fence with only a tiny gap

    Hello DIY Tribe. How did you secure the Shed Floor to the EcoBase? It looks as if though there are no locations for fixings!! Where I am, we get regular strong winds. Also would you recommend doubling the landscape fabric to stop the growth of weed?

    • @thediytribe8424
      @thediytribe8424  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, no there are no fixings built into the base. Where we are in the UK the weight of the shed and contents are enough to hold it down, but we don't really have many strong winds where we are in the UK. Yes doubling the fabric might work a bit better than a single layer! :)

      @@thediytribe8424 yea I'd lay the base myself. The wife knocked up the concrete for our shed base and I layed it. Used the old greenhouse frame as shuttering, had lots of stone and bricks to dispose of so they became hardcore. It's just long winded and messy. The plastic is really appealing to me but I need to justify the cost. I like it's portability and speed. It certainly had a lot going for it.

      @Ironbuket 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Building regs for sheds, you having a laugh? Someone is going to come along and sign off on the shed you built yourself from a BnQ kit? There are rules on height and distance from fences. This looks OK to me: 'The maximum height of the shed / greenhouse / building is 4 metres. The maximum eaves height of the shed / greenhouse / building is 2.5 metres if it is within 2 metres of the property boundary'. You only need to worry about planning and building regs if someone is going to live in it.
