    This did not work out with the recommended dishwasher safe Mod Podge. I made a mug for Christmas gifts using this method as instructed. I have been hand washing one mug for a month and the decal is now peeling off! I am so embarrassed that is now happening to the 20 people we received these as gifts.

    I have found this dishwasher safe mod podge to not effectively seal decals on ceramics, even with 3 coats, 2 hours in between drying each coat and 1 month cure time. Decals with acrylic sealant still washed off :( and it leaves a tacky texture. Any ideas on this?

    I don’t understand why they would make a mod podge specifically for the dishwasher, yet it’s not food safe?! I really can’t seem to wrap my mind around this. What would you put in the dishwasher that you’re not going to eat off of? I feel like there has to be something better out there that is dishwasher safe, and food safe 🤔🤔

    I'm a newbie and though vinyl was waterproof and ok for the microwave and possibly dishwasher safe. Now I am hearing this isn't true and saw your video on sealing a mug. I like the idea but since the modge podge isn't as safe as I thought, I won't try this. I know if a kid dribbles down the outside of a cup they will lick it. Heck, I'm an adult and have done it too. lol Many thanks for the video. I did learn some tips and tricks.

    I use polycrylic clear satin with the same brush you're using on a coffee mug. I cleaned it with alcohol prior sealing. However, on the back part of the cup, the polycrylic started to get sticky & wasn't going on smooth. It got messed up will like to know how I can fix it. Can it be removed since it's on the part without decal & it's just the 1st coat?

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It must have been your cup. It must have had some residue on it or something. Also, unfortunately you can only really remove it if it's still wet, so you could have wiped it off with a rag with alcohol on it right after you brushed it on, but if it's dried, there's not really much you can do. Sorry!

    I got a coffee mug with some vinyl on it a few months back. I been washing it with soap and water only never put it in the dishwasher, but the vinyl is coming off and not sticky anymore. Is there anyway I can restick it.

    • @naz655

      I'm pretty sure you'll need to get new vinyl. The adhesive would be gone.
      I'm not a pro though so maybe someone else will have a more positive answer.

    Totally understand that Mod Podge leaves brush strokes so it works well with light colors.
    But what about for a black coffee mug? Is Polycrylic the only option available for dark colored mugs?

      Hello! So, using HTV on mugs is very difficult and we have only had a few successful projects using that method. Also, even if you use HTV you will still be required to seal it if you want to get it wet at all. With the method in this video your mug will be food safe and dishwasher safe once fully cured.
