      Well, in a sense, Hank did contribute to creating Heisenberg. Hank was always a bit of a bully towards Walt. Though it's no excuse for all of the horrible things Walt did, Heisenberg was essentially Walt's response to all of the people (the Schwarzes, Skyler, Hank, etc.) who mistreated and used him throughout his life.

    9:59 - "Why is Skyler allowing this?" Are you kidding - Skyler probably helped him write that script! Remember the episode "Bullet Points" when Skyler and Walt were going over their scripted story about how Walt's money came from gambling? And during the confession when Walt pretended he didn't know it was called a "hit" - I bet that was Skyler's contribution.

    What did Rana and Hannah think "Tread lightly" meant? lol...Walt (or Heisenberg) warned Hank, but Hank was acting mostly on emotion, letting his anger dictate his actions, while Walt started acting on logic.
    And as for why Skylar isn't scared seeing Walt cry on cue as a sign that he's a sociopath, don't forget that it was Skylar who first suggested crying on cue when discussing with Walt the best way to sell her fake gambling story to Hank. Hell, she probably suggested Walt start crying on cue in the video.

      Skylar, with the locksmith, Skylar, with the Jeweler
      Skylar, with the IRS.
      No one has seen that false confession but Hank, and Marie. It's a warning shot across the bough.
      Why did Jesse ask for his money to begin with?? Then when Walt finally gives it to him, he has a crisis of conscious. Maybe moving to Alaska as a millionaire would be a fresh start.

      Jesse's?( he did indirectly cause it)
      Jack and Todd's?(Jack is their leader and Todd pulled the trigger)
      Or maybe Skylar's?(she could have stopped the empire in season 2).

I would give good money to see a reaction channel with people reacting to that version edited in unknowingly. That, or the alternate ending to the finale where Walt wakes up in bed with his Malcolm in the Middle wife, talking about the crazy dream he had where he cooked meth in New Mexico and became a drug kingpin. I just want to see the look on someone’s face where they think(however briefly) that it’s actually the way the show ended. 🤣

      You can always tell which reactors react with emotion and idealism and which react with logic and realism. I'm the type of person who knows right from wrong but also understands why normal people do horrible things. Walt isn't Hitler. He was an average man who, because of desperation with his diagnosis, tried to get a quick nest egg for his family and then got caught up in finally having power when he never had it the rest of his life.
      It was spelled out from the start that Walt was walked all over by people his entire life. He let that power corrupt him, but he was not evil at all. Evil implies lack of remorse and not having a notion of right and wrong. Walt showed remorse many times.
      People nowadays, especially millennials, tend to believe people who do bad things are bad, horrible people. In reality, sometimes normal people are capable of doing terrible things. Hell, even GOOD people can do terrible, vile things. But those people are immediately destroyed with no opportunity to make things right because of cancel culture. It's ridiculous.

      @John-uw2je 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Skyler wanted a normal life, but Walt acted really strange for a long time after getting cancer. Notice that when she found out he was a meth cook, she wanted to help him so that she could feel that their lives were in control again.
      Also, in flashbacks we see that Skyler married Walt when he was a more confident man working at Grey matter. After this, Walt became emasculated, and Skyler began to be attracted more to Ted than she was towards Walt.
      Once Walt began to become confident again, she wanted to help him.
      At this point, Skyler just wants things to be like when she first married him. That's all she ever wants in the show.

      @Walter White It does mean that actually. He definitely loves his wife, and his children. But he chose to keep cooking meth, keep running his empire, instead of walking away for the sake of his family. He did come close to doing that earlier in the series, when he refused to work for Gus. But as the series progresses, his meth business became equal to his family. That doesn't make him evil. It doesnt make him not care about his family. It means he didn't care enough to say, "I need to walk away" much earlier. I agree he believes he can have both, but as proven yet again early on, he cant. His meth business interferes and causes problems with family almost at the start. Only an idiot would keep thinking he can do both with no issues.

    I think their reaction to the events unfolding makes sense.
    However, I do agree that just like a lot of other viewers they quickly blame everyone's misery on Walt.
    My issue with that is that it takes away from the other characters' (Skyler and Jesse specially) choices and actions.
    While characters like Walt Jr. and Brock are totally innnocent, that's not the case for Skyler and Jesse. They are not mere puppets. They made choices and sometimes regrettable decisions. It was the same with Mike.
    It's easy to make Walt this big villain who fucked everyone's lives (he kinda did), but thats oversimplifying it.
    Speaking of simplifying, it's also easier to paint Walt as purely black now. He obviously still cares for his kids and wife. He even freaking cares about Hank. In that, I totally disagree with the gals. Walt is still in there, but Heisenberg is mostly running the show.
    In the end, you have to remember most characters in this show are not purely black or white. Trying to twist it into a simple good vs. evil story is a detriment to Gilligan's storytelling.
    P.s.: Walt and Jesse's relationship is quite complex. Walt has indeed been manipulating him throughout certain events, but it's clear he has affection for Jesse. Something similar can be said about Jesse: Walt has been like a father figure for him, but now his life is in shamble and he's ready to throw all the stocked up anger and pain he has at that father figure who deceived him.
    Enjoy! Super fun reactions as usual.

      That's because Walt is constantly setting himself up as the good guy no matter what he does. And, also, because he seems to enjoy being evil for its own sake. Jesse regularly rakes himself over the coals any time he does anything shitty. Gus was pretty clearly set up as an antagonist from the start, so it's easier to distance ourselves from his acts, because we're not invested in his moral development. Skyler is already widely hated by virtually everyone who ever watched Breaking Bad, so that's hardly a decent point to make; a standard shitty person is not worse than a shitty murderer.

    • @tjm6983
      @tjm6983 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree. But others who've done youtube reactions to this show have been the same way. These guys didn't start getting very bad about it until pretty far into the series.
      I understand why Mike was endearing to people, and no, Walt didn't need to kill him when he did. He was acting on emotion and panicked, then admitted it to Mike after.
      It's just hard for me to stomach when people suggest Walt shouldn't have killed Gus and side with Mike on that. It seems mainly because Mike was designed to be the more admirable character.
      But apart from his skills, what is there to really admire about him at all? (Same as Walt) I know he was a loving grandpa, but so are just about all people with grandkids. Mike expected Walt to not kill Gus, even though Gus was going to try to kill Walt at some point. And this was after Mike knew Gus had bangers dealing for him, that killed a child after he told them "no more children." Anybody who says Gus would have done something about that if Walt hadn't killed them first is a moron. Gus didn't give a damn about it, and Mike didn't give a damn about anything Gus didn't give a damn about.
      On the child-killing topic, I had to say something about how that was slid in there in the summary comments on this episode about all the evil things Walt had done ("killing kids," I think she said?) I understand what Walt did to Brock was on their minds. And that it was a very big deal and immoral, but he didn't kill him.
      And I don't remember Walt killing any kids at any time. Which I don't think I'm just forgetting and need my memory refreshed on it? So imho I think people should be a little more careful when speaking off the cuff while recounting details.

    It's easy to get lost in the hate for walt, because of all the horrible things he's done and paint him as an all evil character. People see him as cold and calculated, but he's such a complex character who cares for his family and Jesse and also has a lot of flaws, which ultimately bring him down. If Walt was as cold as people think, he would never have gone down, but that's what make this such a good show. It takes multiple watches to see how complex the characters really are.

    • @PhoenixXZY
      @PhoenixXZY 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there is a piece of him that cares, but that piece is usually overshadowed by his intense ego and need to validate himself as an extremely successful and talented man. The show is very clever in it's writing, because it leads you to believe (the first time watching it) that most of the stuff he does, he does for his family. At least, until season 5 where the viewer can tell he is over doing it. But once you give the show a second watch, you notice that it has been about his ego and his guilt in giving away his billion dollar industry since the very beginning. He has always been a cowardly character, with selfish tendencies. As for Jesse, I don't think he truly ever cared for his well being. Jesse has always been a tool to him, from the beginning, and anything that made Jesse even remotely happy, Walt has degraded or manipulated him out of having it.

      Everyone who's watched is aware of those scenes. And those 2 examples are really apples to oranges. He couldn't do anything about Drew Sharp once Todd shot him. He wasn't upset about it like Jessie, but neither was Mike. Yes in the aftermath he seemed content with the fact it happened, but he still wasn't the one who killed him. We don't know what he would have done if Todd hadn't killed him immediately.
      I just don't think it should be stated casually that he killed kids, when he never did, technically like that. Also though Walt as a character becomes a horrible person by the end (the whole point of the show), there are characters who are undeniably worse people than him. 1. Gus and I won't entertain any arguments against that. 2. Todd and his uncle Jack and their whole crew. 3. Lydia. 4. I will put these as debatable - but also Hector, Tuco, the cousins, Don Eladio, Juan Bolsa and anyone cartel-related with enough power. Lastly, the only innocent characters in the show are children. None of the adults are.

    See this is why I have a problem with these reactions now. When I watched this show I wasn't necessarily on Walt's side. But these two are so blinded by this hate that they don't see any nuance in the show, in the character decisions, or in the actor's performances. Even though Walt manipulates Jesse often, he obviously cares about him. Walt could easily kill Jesse and be rid of the threat. Instead he tried to give him an out. He isn't being totally forthright. But that hug is genuine. Things aren't black and white in this show. But, for them now, it is. That is what's super frustrating.

    Jesse didn't roll on Walt for 2 reasons: 1) for his own self interest and 2) he actually does care for Walt. also, you keep overlooking the fact that Walt does care about Jesse in his own fucked up way, just the way he cares about his family, including Hank, despite how much he manipulates them. I mean if he didn't care about Hank, he would have let Saul send him to Belize. it's almost as if you can see that all the characters have layers but are blinded about this when it comes to Walt for some reason.

    Regardless of how terrible someone is, burning down their fucking house is not a solution. Jesse’s best option would have been to go right back to Hank and tell him what he knows. If he burns down their house before going to Hank, all that would do is get himself in MORE trouble and make him less believable because he burnt down Walt’s house in addition to the already existent factor that they have no physical evidence on Walt. Burning his house down would cause more trouble for Jesse and would make Walt look less guilty because, oh... I don’t know, HE BURNT DOWN HIS FUCKING HOUSE! The best revenge to get on walt would be to make sure he gets convicted by not giving him anything he can use against anyone. Taking personal revenge does nothing in the long run.

    If it wasn't for Nahid and his facial expressions when they say stuff, I'd probably have stopped watching the reactions in season 2 or 3. These women and their hatred for Walter just completely ruins things. They've been hating on him so much that they've, in their heads, turned Walt into a one-dimensional villain like Firelord Ozai who'll destroy anything in his path to get what he wants and does everything for himself. Why did Walt kill Gus? For himself? I seem to remember him being safe since he was fired by Gus, but it's that threat to his wife, children and Hank that drove Walt to do what he did. I'm not justifying anything Walt did. He's guilty by all means, but don't try and make it out as if everything he did in the show was just cause he's a bad and selfish person. He did continue the meth empire or selfish reasons, but that's not 100% why he started it.
