    Gus didn’t kill Victor randomly… It was because he got himself seen by a lot of people at Gail’s murder scene, and THEN cooked without Gus’s authority. That’s back to back screw ups. He had to make an example of someone in that room of people that just pissed him off and Victor was the most expendable.

      Victor was a cocky idiot who stepped way out of his jurisdiction and paid the price, a bit like the morally corrupt version of Werner

    • @Kairac112
      @Kairac112 ปีที่แล้ว +305

      Exactly. Victor's death was not random at all. It wasn't even so much about the cooking, even though his cook would have probably been very bad quality. It was mostly about being seen at Gale's appartement by all the neighbours.

      @@idkanymore1298 I think that's specifically for Hector's case only. The other members of the Salamanca family can die out for all he cares. Hector's the only real exception because of what he did to Gus in the past.
      Edit: To expand further on what I said, Gus only really targets other members of the Salamanca family if they get in his way. But, his true goal is directed at Hector and Eladio, especially Hector.

    Walt explains this within a few episodes. Gus didn't want it to be a silent execution. He wanted Hank to know so it would start a shootout for everyone to see, thus ensuring the twins, and more specifically, the cartel, found out.
    This would cause the DEA to down hard on the cartel as going after a DEA agent is a surefire way to get them to your front door.
    I actually think Gus respected Walt at this point in the story. Walt only becomes a problem in the later half of the season.

      Gus also subtlety threatened Walt's family early on, which is why Walt was scared to leave. Part of why Gus didn't work with druggies because they had nothing to lose/use against them. Keep Hank alive as a way to keep Walt in check, if he died then at least he has the DEA doin come down on the cartel and the brothers. Gus didn't know telepathically about the car bomb.
    Not long after threatening the life of the family of his fired meth cook, a child close to the backup meth cook has been poisoned, mysteriously.
    Gus knows it wasn't him. So either it's a completely random child poisoning, or something else is up.
    Gus then realized that Jesse's distraught over this caused him to go visit Jesse in the hospital which made him leave his car unattended.
    It just seemed off to Gus. Actually one could see how somebody in Gus's position would be very acutely aware of situations like this.
    The only reason he didn't see the danger coming with Hector is because he was blinded by his rage for revenge (And he was still cautious there, he just didn't calculate Hector killing himself to take out Gus)

His sixth sense has probably made him find a different way home or change course many times before for no reason, this time it just happened to save his life. Gus waited 20 years for his goals because he never once assumed, he always took caution and thinking ahead to an obsessive level. How could he have predicted someone like Walt however, how could anybody

    Walter was only deemed problematic when he killed the drug dealers who killed Andrea's younger brother to protect Jesse from being hurt. They maintained a good relationship throughout Season 3 overall.
    Gus didn't really deem Hank problematic until Season 4 when he started investigating Gale's murder, Gale was a vegan who had a handkerchief that belonged and lead him to Los Pollos Hermanos.
    Gus's main priority in using Hank was to get rid of the problematic twins and have the DEA divert attention to the cartel rather than his business, resulting in Bolsa also getting killed. Killing three birds with one phone call.

    Honestly, when you remember Gus' vendetta against the cartel it is pretty clear why he warned Hank: it removed one of the last wild-card factors that could interrupt his plans. Sure, the cartel started messing with his trucks and forced him into a meeting, but it was very clear Gus was prepared for that to swing it as his trump card play. With Lalo, Tuco, and now the Twins removed from the equation, Gus had no serious threats that would be able to interrupt his plans or out his impending treachery.

    = Just to give him a chance.
    It was a Win-Win regardless if he warned Hank or not. If the Twins killed Hank… it would push the government against the Salamanca’s / Eladio. This is exactly what happened to Bolsa.
    Calling him to give a possible chance to survive was just a safe move… there was no true motive or guilt just moving a pawn forward and hope for the best.
    Look at the event unfolded… Hank a DEA who might have a pistol against these deadly killers Twins. The chances are very low and if the one twin didn’t go get the axe, Hank would’ve died there…
    None of Gus’s men were on the scene to aid if he really wanted Hank to live.

      @silverback7675 ปีที่แล้ว

      And, which I can’t believe no one else has figured out, give the DEA free reign to plan a raid on Juan Bolsa’s house, taking out his “cartel boss” as well.

    I don’t think Gus even cared if Hank survived or not. He just wanted a public shoot-out instead to force the governments to get involved. No matter who died, Gus would win. Cut off the cartel‘s access to the US giving him a stronger position to make his move against Bolsa, Eladio and the Salamanca family

    • @guillermoalvarez9400
      @guillermoalvarez9400 ปีที่แล้ว

      This whole plan could’ve gone wrong if either twin survived. They would’ve told their bosses that Gus gave them permission to carry out the hit and then it would’ve been over for him

      You were closer in your analysis than the dumb video. The narrator forgot one huge detail, kill a DEA agent and they all come after their suspects. Because Hank was shot it gave the DEA and the Federales of Mexico free reign to go after Juan Bolsa, Gus’ cartel boss.

    Gus didn't want Walt dead until after he killed the two dealers. It seems more likely that Gus just thought Gale was a better partner and that Walt was dying so in case cancer took Walt he'd have a chemist to make Walt's meth. Gus did seem to care about his loyal employees if nothing else as a way to motivate them to do a good job rather than rely on solely on fear like the cartel he hated. You can see this in how he stocked blood for Jessie and Mike at his secret Mexican hospital. Sure they were both needed employees but I couldn't see a ruthless bastard like Hector doing that for anyone. However, when Walt became insubordinate to the point where he was clearly out only for himself, that's when Gus wanted Gale to take over ASAP.

    I haven't watched the video yet for the speculated answer yet because I wanted to put my own speculation out there first: I think Gus knew the kind of agent Hank was, and respected him to know how he'd run/limit operations to catch bad guys "the right way." Also, given Hank didn't suspect Gus at the time, and Gus knew that, it was a useful person to have close by. Also, if Hank was killed by cartel members in Gus' terrority, that creates problems for HIM, not the cartel over the border who wanted things to be messy and untennable for Gus.

    3 reasons. 1. The salamacas wanted blood for tuco, he offered hank instead. 2. Hank was a dea agent close to walter and therefore a threst so if he died big plus. 3. Gus wanted to kill the twins and the entire salamaca family

    Also Gus would like Cousins out if his territory. Bolsa told Gus something along the lines of "the boys aren't the same anymore" suggesting that Cousins weren't taking direct orders from him.
    Only thing I suppose Gus didn't realise was that Hank was discharged prior to the hit attempt, so he didn't have a gun on him. Hank still did good, thanks to his training and quite thick plot armor

    Gus did not need to bother warning Hank. Hank didn't take him seriously anyway. The twins had a perfect chance to shoot Wal-Turd while he was in the shower and before they had a chance to receive the Pollos text, but they just sat there and waited for no reason except that Walt had to survive to continue the show. Hank survived because the twins had Imperial Stormtrooper-like marksmanship and they were idiots, not because of Gus's warning. One twin stupidly stood still while Hank was speeding his car, instead of running a little to the left or right to avoid the speeding car. The other twin, Mr. Dumb-axe, had the perfect shot, but he missed his chance and said "muy facil" and turned away very slowly to get his axe. He dropped a bullet so Hank could load his gun and he walked very slowly so Hank would have time to load the bullet into the gun. He also positioned his head perfectly so Hank would have an easy head-shot and avoid the body armor that saved him from Hank's prior shots. It seemed like he had as much brains as hair.

    Gus wanted Bolsa and the twins dead. The twins would later be identified as cartel by their tattoos in the hospital. This is why Gus gave them the go ahead to attack Hank behind Bolsa’s back. When they shot Hank, this showed the cartel that Bolsa was untrustworthy, having a US DEA agent attacked and having their men killed on his watch. I believe Eladio has the feds by the neck and gave some kind of go ahead.

    Simple: the twins weren’t expressly Gus’s and he couldn’t control them. Also, Gus knew that his interests and the cartels would soon be divergent, and creating smoke between the cartel and the DEA meant drawing heat and resources away from his own operation. If the twins are permitted to simply roll up and kill Hank, that takes cartel heat off Gus temporarily. If they wound Hank, it means Hank can finger the Cartel personally, use his status to wage war on the Cartel on both sides of the border, and - best case - remove one or both twins from the board. Hank took out Tuco - or so Gus thought - and he probably figured he might luck up again with the twins. I’m pretty sure Gus thought it likely Hank would eventually die, but for him to become a martyr to the DEA cause in Mexico would be a major hassle for the Salamancas and Eladio specifically. So just leaving Hank to die was, for Gus, not efficient. To warn him, give him a chance to strike at the Salamancas AND the Cartel, that was the genius move of a guy seeing the whole picture.

    Damn a whole ass video? This is one of the most straightforward questions at the entire series, Gus wanted to get rid of the Salamanca’s. Him warning Hank could’ve potentially led to the death of two of the Salamanca’s, witch it did. He just put himself at arms length, chess brotha not checkers.

    Gus had to protect Walt who was his cash cow so he turned the twins onto Hank but the cartel would never approve a direct attack on a federal agent on American soil like that. He needed Hank to to kill the twins or at least get them detained so they couldn’t tell bolsa gus approved the attack which would’ve set big alarm bells off to the cartel

    (i saw a comment of someone talking about a Gus show and i wanted to reply with my own comment) I think the reason it was only breaking bad, better call saul and el camino was because walter, jesse and saul are the big three on that universe, being hunted for 500k or 5M, i don't remember how much was in the poster but yeah, the trio got their own movie/series to show before and after
    with jesse, it was him talking to mike, because we learned about his past and the movie was more about what had happened after
    BCS on the other hand talks about jimmy since we didn't know much about him, then in season 6 everything comes together and then we go back to the present, with Gene

    Breaking Bad was a masterclass in elaborate storytelling and you gotta analyze everything or else you miss details. I've literally watched and rewatched BB dozens of times and each time, I come away with something else. Gus was the ultimate chess player because he was always prepared and in control. Walter White was ultimately better but not by very much. Gus needed to get rid of the Salamanca twins without it appearing to be his doing while also continuing to eliminate Salamanca family members to avenge Max. This calculated move accomplished both goals plus the added benefit of stopping Hank's investigation into Fring's activities. Vince Gilligan and his writing team did such a great job developing the Gustavo Fring character that you almost can't believe he was ever outsmarted by Walt. But, Walter ultimately used Gus's hatred for Hector Salamanca against him to get him alone without Gus being able to see it coming. I could literally talk BB forever because the writing and acting on it was just the best thing ever on TV or any medium. Great video! You gained a new subscriber.
